As title really, its tomorrow and chatting to him now, but its going to be a disaster. I've been sucked in by a pretty face. Am I being too picky?

OP posts:
NoImaginationUsername · 14/09/2014 22:59

Oh yes. Heinz Scotch broth. I'd have preferred tomato but never mind!

TheIronGnome · 14/09/2014 23:03

But it's so Strange I simply can't imagine why you're single op...! Hmm

It's alright, you don't need to listen to me; I did a degree in media production, love tinned soups AND super noodles and there's no way I'd have known Berlin was in Germany when I was 22.

Oh! And it's Btec (no 'k')

purplemeggie · 14/09/2014 23:04

I met my husband of nearly 8 years online. There are at least two things about him that got other people eliminated, but I just didn't realise they applied to DH too until after I'd met him. I say go on the date. (You can always beat the tinned soup thing out of him later Wink)

SweetsForMySweet · 14/09/2014 23:10

Put him down Op, you don't know where he's been. Grin ...sorry I couldn't resist
You haven't said where he thought Berlin was located?

Anyone want a Brew, chocolate digestives here

ghostisonthecanvas · 14/09/2014 23:10

I am shocked at the number of posters on this thread freely admitting to not knowing where their biscuits or soups are. You may be judged for this. Do you keep your foodstuffs in Berlin? Its very nice there apparently. I've never been.

Laymizzrarb · 14/09/2014 23:11

I don't have a degree, but I have a certificate for 50m breaststroke , and I know that Irving Berlin wrote White Christmas.
I made about 8 pints of butternut squash soup today.
Am. I attractive or unattractive ?

PS he doesn't give a shit about your opinion of him - he just wants a shag. I wouldn't give it too much brainspace.

Pico2 · 14/09/2014 23:12

If you get your DC onto tinned soup, will it effectively be a form of contraception? Or will it lead them towards Tinder?

Pipbin · 14/09/2014 23:13

He's been working full time for two years, never been to Wales or Scotland either. He did a b-teck and not a levels, if that was in media studies or tourism and leisure its off.

I've never been to Scotland, I've got a b-Tec and I like tinned soup.
However I have a degree and I have travelled widely outside the UK.

Good job I'm married or I'd clearly never find anyone.

QuintessentiallyQS · 14/09/2014 23:13
Hmm

A friend of mine (a bit younger than me) aged 22 had

  • Never heard of Nelson Mandela.
  • Did not know anything about apartheid.
  • Thought dolphins regularly swam the seas around Denmark.
  • Had not heard of Desmond Tutu.
etc etc etc. and generally very poor general knowledge.

She had a certificate in tourism from college.

I had a couple of degrees. Luckily I was not a snob and valued her friendship. She is lovely. She is actually really smart, just uniformed, and did not have my fortune and wealthy parents to back up her education.

I eat homemade soup, but the highest level of education I achieved was a university access course. I'm now really concerned that if DH and I were to split up, potential Tinder shags would judge me harshly. Good taste in food, but clearly not that bright. It would be a dilemma, that's for certain.

Fortunately, my stunning good looks would make it a no brainer for them.

billyokey · 14/09/2014 23:17

This thread has made me hungry for soup

QuintessentiallyQS · 14/09/2014 23:18

When I met my husband, he lived on scrambled eggs and baked beans. He did not have any education beyond A levels. He worked in a bar. He was very handsome, with a pert bum and rode a motorbike. He was 21, like me. I went to UCL for my first degree. He went from his job in the bar to a 27k salary as a software developer, aged 22, and this was 20 years ago. ...Fast forward and things are very different. Grin

redredread · 14/09/2014 23:21

I haven't read the whole thread but I have added Heinz tomato soup to my ocado order. Maybe it's a stealth marketing campaign..

FreakinScaryCaaw · 14/09/2014 23:23

Is Tinder for fuck buddies then?

Pico2 · 14/09/2014 23:29

redredread - stealth marketing, but for Tinder or soup? Soup seems to be winning so far.

owlborn · 14/09/2014 23:35

I had tinned soup for dinner. Lovely comforting Heinz tomato soup with a bit of grated cheese sprinkled on top.

The Berlin thing is a bit worrying, I grant you, but maybe he had a momentary brain fart. I'd give him a go.

WitchWay · 14/09/2014 23:41

Actually my comment about his not knowing what Basil was was a bit off - I saw a Jamie Oliver "stop the kids eating crap" programme where he grabbed a packet of fresh basil to put in a pasta sauce & the mum said, "how can you eat that? it's just leaves"

Grin
PhaedraIsMyName · 14/09/2014 23:42

I'm amazed anyone wouldn't know Berlin is in Germany. I admit, despite being there twice, I might not be able to stick a pin in a map of Germany as to where exactly it is.

SweetsForMySweet · 14/09/2014 23:47

I think I'm going to have to dump my dh Grin, I just asked him if he knows where Berlin is, he says France of course and have I seen his tin of soup anywhere Grin.

Warbling, I'm sure you'll meet someone lovely soon but it probably won't be on tinder (no harm having a bit of fun while you're looking though) just avoid the guys who like tinned soup and don't know where Berlin is located Smile.

Op At 22, he has time to travel and progress in his career (you have 11 years more than him to travel and experience life). you're being very critical of him. You might be doing him a favour by not going on another date with him.

badgerknowsbest · 15/09/2014 00:35

I wonder if he has started a thread somewhere asking if he should meet this strange woman who talks about b-tecks and who has a strange aversion to tinned soup Grin

fatowl · 15/09/2014 00:51

I have an MA and dh has a PHD.
We eat tinned soup, and it's a good thing we are not splitting up anytime soon as we will obviously be judged in the dating world.

We've traveled the world but I've never been to Scotland though.

BTW, my dad is very very specialised in his engineering field, and at 70, is still regularly called by his old company to help them out with something. He has a HND. Don't get him started on degrees in Media, leisure, and film/theatre studies and graduates who claim they are better than him/should earn more than him because they have a "degree"

NickAndNora · 15/09/2014 02:16

You need to probe further on the type of soup. If it's Heinz Brown Windsor or Mulligatawny it may be a sign he is lying about his age and is, in fact, 73.

Pennybubbly · 15/09/2014 03:30

Am LOVING the correlation between soup and intelligence Grin

VestaCurry · 15/09/2014 03:34

The Berlin problem would urge me to cancel asap.
