As title really, its tomorrow and chatting to him now, but its going to be a disaster. I've been sucked in by a pretty face. Am I being too picky?

OP posts:
WarblingOyster · 17/09/2014 14:00

are you sure he's 22 & not a teenager
That's a valid point actually sweets I've seen a lot of boys I know are 16-17 with their age at 21 because they joined Facebook underage Grin (Tinder uses Facebook profile)

chaseface Probably 5% of users are on there for something serious. How can anyone think they'll find 'The One' on an app that makes you 'Like or Nope' a person, who then has to 'Like' you back, before you can speak to them?
It's fun but I wouldn't expect anything long term from there.

MsBug · 17/09/2014 14:18

You are going on a date with a hot 22 year old and you're worried about whether he knows where berlin is?

Deathraystare · 17/09/2014 15:11

Well I often have tinned soup in Berlin while doing my B-tec -not really.

I know where Berlin is though. Not sure if I am tinder material or not but don't care either!!!

SweetsForMySweet · 18/09/2014 00:20

Grin Chaseface Tinder is what it is, an app that is based on hooking up based on looks not personality. There's very little if any dating going on there.

I'm guessing he would have rode you silly too. But perhaps you didn't match up to his expectations from your Tinder photo.
Did you notice him checking his phone frequently during the date?....just a thought.

giraffescantboogie · 20/09/2014 23:18

mmm soup

peasandlove · 20/09/2014 23:55

Wow bitchy thread. Nice one ladies

MyFairyKing · 21/09/2014 00:05

Wow patronising post. Nice one peas.

Titsalinabumsquash · 21/09/2014 00:16

I'll admit to not knowing where Berlin is!

It's certainly not because I'm stupid though, give me any other subject and I can hold my own but geography for some reason just won't stick! Sadly if given a world mad I wouldn't know where most places were.

I even took extra tutoring in it but alas, I'm just not able to memorise anything to do with countries and where they are.

Tbh OP, this guy doesn't sound like the one for you.

PhaedraIsMyName · 21/09/2014 01:04

If by "where is Berlin" you mean identify the exact location on a map of Germany, then fair enough. I don't know exactly where it is.

If you mean , didn't know it is the capital city of Germany- how on earth is that possible?

Really you've never heard of the First and Second World Wars?

peasandlove · 21/09/2014 01:26

Like my comment is the first patronising post in this thread. Leave off

Titsalinabumsquash · 21/09/2014 01:30

I didn't know it was the capital, no.

As for WW1 & 2, I am aware they happened, yes. I haven't lived in a cave all my life.
My grandparents both served in WW2, I still nurse my grandmother who suffered severe mental health repercussions from it.
Although I know which places were involved I have retained the knowledge.

I don't know why, my teachers were as baffled as I was. I was an A grade student in every other subject (except RE) but as I said, I just can't seem to make it stick with geography.

I'm not very well travelled and the places I have been I couldn't tell you much about where they were.

I was just point out that a weakness (even a big one) in one subject doesn't make a person stupid or un cultured or ignorant.

If I ever want to know where somewhere is or what it's capital is, I just research it. The information might not stay in my mind for long but I'm alway keen to learn even if I have to do it repeatedly.

Titsalinabumsquash · 21/09/2014 01:32

This has also just reminded me that I had a conversation about the Berlin Wall last Tuesday and yet today I read this post and couldn't think where it was! Confused

PhaedraIsMyName · 21/09/2014 01:45

Even if you didn't know it was the capital (and for a while the capital was Bonn) I'm still gobsmacked at the number of posters who don't know it is in Germany.

It' s got nothing to do with whether you are well travelled or not. Berlin has been central to European history since 1914. Germany is by far and away the biggest player in the EU. It's on a par with not knowing Paris is in France or London is in England.

I agree with the OP that thinking Sydney and Rio are the respective capitals of Australia and Berlin is forgiveable; not knowing they are in Australia and Brazil isn't.

Titsalinabumsquash · 21/09/2014 01:55

Now those other examples I did know, maybe my stubborn nature and thirst for knowledge is having an impact after all.

PhaedraIsMyName · 21/09/2014 02:02

And obviously I meant to say

I agree with the OP that thinking Sydney and Rio are the respective capitals of Australia and Brazil is forgiveable; not knowing they are in Australia and Brazil isn't.

FrancesNiadova · 21/09/2014 09:13

Are you referring to the Berlin in Wisconsin or the Berlin in New Hampshire?
Ich bin ein Berliner not really Wink

LosingAllTheLego · 21/09/2014 11:47

OP you're a dick.

FWIW I have a BTEC in mechanical engineering. I also have an NVQ in the same, followed by a HNC and a HND.

I'm currently considering a degree in electronic process engineering.

In my field, applied qualifications are an absolute must. You couldn't get a job with a degree but not be time served. FWIW there was nothing stopping me from studying a-levels and going straight to uni, but it wasn't what I wanted.

And as a lowly engineer I earn very well, despite my "Mickey Mouse" qualifications.

Who cares where he's been on holiday or how his geography is? He probably didn't realise he had to pass a general knowledge quiz before a date.

sarahighseas · 21/09/2014 12:55

Just to clarify again, he didn't know what country Berlin was in.

OP posts:
ChelsyHandy · 21/09/2014 13:01

sarahighseas Just to clarify again, he didn't know what country Berlin was in.

How did it come up in conversation? Maybe he was joking?

I must admit I'm struggling to comprehend that an adult wouldn't know which country Berlin was in, even in the wonderful world of mumsnet where everyone is of equally high intelligence, no matter their qualifications or job.

TiggyD · 21/09/2014 14:01

Maybe he was talking about the current location or Berlin the band?

ilovesooty · 21/09/2014 14:10

If I were him I don't think I'd bother to pursue the interaction. more I read the less I think it has anything going for it.

DownByTheRiverside · 21/09/2014 14:34

How much older than him are you? He's 22 and you're talking about being at school 15 years ago?

He may well find that you have nothing in common at all, so if you want a casual shag I think that's as much as this relationship has got going for it.
You sound way too uncomfortable about meeting people who appear not to live up to your standards, find someone older and more cosmopolitan and leave him for the likes of my DD.

Symphonysuckz · 21/09/2014 15:22

My anaconda don't want none unless you got buns hun
