!0,000 and counting.

OP posts:

It will be around 55-60 no and 40-45 yes imo. I am trying to not follow the polls too closely as there is no precedent, but still there is some truth in the statistics.

I also think the reality when you stare at your ballot paper and realise the magnitude of the decision you are about to make hits home, people change their mind. I know I have done previously when voting right at the last minute.

I said that part of my initial instinct towards Yes was coloured by that. The implication - which I didn't make clear, for which I apologise - was that I've since thought about it more and come to have very different reasons (which are not "about the Tories") for carrying that "gut instinct" into a serious voting decision.

squoosh · 14/09/2014 21:01

I'm really impressed by Ruth Davison on this debate. And as a non-Tory in every meaning of the term, this is saying something quite spectacular for me!

Me too, I really like her even though I would never ever vote Tory.

livingzuid · 14/09/2014 21:02

It's not voting that ended us in this situation. I too had a bit of a go at a family member for not voting even though he was a Yes Smile

SantanaLopez · 14/09/2014 21:02

Thank you for clarifying; it's a particular bugbear of mine.

OneNight · 14/09/2014 21:03

I give you my prediction of 23.

SantanaLopez · 14/09/2014 21:03

Ah, but 23 what?

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 14/09/2014 21:03

My granny in law just switched to yes from no because she decided to 'give' her vote to her expat daughter.

Weird behaviour!

WildThong · 14/09/2014 21:04

Agree brontolo she was a serious politician. That's a few times I've heard Douglas Alexander speak and he was passionate, especially when the Yes group sneered at his mothers 40 years NHS service!
Wasn't impressed at all with Stuart Hosie or Elaine Smith, just trotting out the same old bilge, so 'on message'.

NCforAye · 14/09/2014 21:04

TeamScotland and livingzuid

I'm very excited to see the final turnout percentage, whatever the result. When was the last time any vote saw an 80% turnout (as this is slated to be)?

grandtheftmanual · 14/09/2014 21:04

Rita - your post of 19.57 while not exactly shrieking (gah, knew I picked the wrong word) would suggest some ambiguousness.

Cambiodenombre · 14/09/2014 21:04

I liked Douglas Alexander's slap down for those who booed when he mentioned his mum. Hosier kept sneering every time someone asked a question, I wonder if he thought they weren't looking at him.

Cambiodenombre · 14/09/2014 21:05

Argh Hosie not Hosier

squoosh · 14/09/2014 21:05

Can I be dense and ask what 23 refers to?

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 14/09/2014 21:05

I'm not biting. I recounted an actual event. That is all.

LatteLoverLovesLattes · 14/09/2014 21:05

That's a shame about the elderly lady TS, perhaps she should have considered her life experience to be of value when making this decision. The No voter - nope, I don't get it either.

Someone said the other day that her and her DH had opp views so considered not voting as they'll only cancel each other out - which I understand - but I think it would be good to know what the 'turn out' is as well, so people should vote, even if as friends or a couple they cancel each other out.

flippinada · 14/09/2014 21:05

Also have been interested to read the comments upthread about Rupert Murdoch. I think he's having a fine old time stirring the pot - he'll be loving all this.

NCforAye · 14/09/2014 21:06

SantanaLopez

Given that I think there's a pretty good chance that Scottish Conservative politicians would have a stronger showing in an independent Scotland than they do in Scotland right now, a general dislike for the Tories would be a bad reason for me to vote Yes. Grin

OneNight · 14/09/2014 21:06

I haven't a clue Santana. I just keep thinking of the figure 23 when I think about the referendum and mindful of the second sight on my father's side I thought I'd mention it.

A close friend said that it was a fat lot of use because it might refer to something like the temperature in the final count room.

He had a point.

TheBogQueen · 14/09/2014 21:07

Rumour is The Sun is coming out fur independence tomorrow

Mind you someone told FIL in the pub this afternoon so...you know..Grin

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 14/09/2014 21:08

I think the result will be nearer lunch time as well. If we get the big turnout and bearing in mind that a lot of the Island results are later at the brst of times I think we'll be looking at a later result.

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/09/2014 21:09

I have been really impressed with Ruth throughout the whole campaign. Not the usual "shouty man" style of politician (which includes plenty of female politicians!)

OneNight · 14/09/2014 21:10

The Sun will do what Murdoch tells it to do and he's playing games with everybody.

WildThong · 14/09/2014 21:10

Maybe we'll get to 23 threads?

Mrsfatso · 14/09/2014 21:10

Am worried about validity of vote. Seems open to abuse. People voting yes boasting online about having more than one polling card. Apparently record numbers of underage voters registered in yes strongholds that do not match population numbers. Awful if yes win, even worse if they cheat. I think there should be an enquiry into result if it's a yes tbh.
