I keep seeing the figures 23 in my mind. (Athough as a friend said that could be the temperature in one of the counting centres.) I'm just laying that down there gently for future reference.

Sallyingforth · 14/09/2014 17:12

The impression is of overwhelming support for independence. Or is it that, as others have suggested in this thread, that it it simply that yes supporters are more visible and vocal.

I think it's the nature of many Yes supporters to be idealist and emotional - they have to be, to continue voting Yes in the face of all the facts and figures that suggest it's not a good move. Such people are more likely to dance in the streets.

No voters tend to be more realist and calculating - they have spent more time researching the numbers and haven't the time or enthusiasm for demonstrations.

OneNight you do now realise you're part of The Conspiracy! Grin

I'm sorry but this is just rubbish. There are plenty of Yes voters who have looked carefully at all the facts and figures and have just come to a different conclusion to you. It happens.

EarthWindFire · 14/09/2014 17:20

I admit I've had a bad day pain wise today, but one you've lost me too...

BakerStreetSaxRift · 14/09/2014 17:24

Well, given that AS NEVER answers the question put to him, I'd say that's fairly likely.

Fontella, I'm a no. All family are a no. same with DH, all his family are a No. Both our workplaces are No. Of our friends, mostly No. --the ones I've spotted who aren't, well, let's just say I wouldn't lose any sleep if I never heard from them again...

I have not, nor has any of my family/friends, worn No badges, waved flags, put up posters, etc. I haven't seen anyone at work do that either.

BakerStreetSaxRift · 14/09/2014 17:30

Agreed. This is very much the impression I get. Of course, there are exceptions to this, although I have only seen those exceptions on here.

I'm not trying to send the thread off in the direction of the first few threads, but I will say that none of the No voters I know would drive through a town on a Sunday beeping their horns and waving flags out the car window. They just seem to be a different type of people, more reserved, less in your face, IME.

StatisticallyChallenged · 14/09/2014 17:31

If that clip is what the shouting is about then I think it is OTT. He doesn't answer the question, really. He talks around it. It's not worthy of a huge protest demanding someone loses their job.

WildThong · 14/09/2014 17:32

Done deal, if you vote yes you should be ashamed. Think of the children!

Arf. does this mean I have to like Piers Morgan?

This^^

Although it achieved what it wanted, everyone is talking about BBC bias Hmm. Clever.

Lol at Piers Morgan

ChelsyHandy · 14/09/2014 17:38

It seems to be turning into more of an attempt at a coup or class war, than a Referendum. How quickly it has progressed from a greater powers - oppression of the people - media bias. And will it progress to violence - oppressing those who disagree?

There are some people, I would like to say a small minority, who seem to have actually got completely out of control, and their viewpoints are completely skewed.

Mind you, I guess that's what happens in wars, and has done throughout history. Thankfully, this is not a war, we are not in a war zone and we have the institutions of democracy to help us.

grovel · 14/09/2014 17:38

If killing a king is regicide and killing a brother is fratricide then what is killing Piers Morgan?

Countryside.

All of my family and work colleagues are voting no but I know plenty yes voters too. I am hoping the older voters who don't parade around with flags and stickers will turn out in force in Thursday to win it for the no vote.
My big fear is that if it is as close as they say, then half the population is going to be mightily pissed off by next weekend and the conspiracy theorists will be having a field day.
I also worry that the fact we are under a state of heightened terror alert due to recent ISiS activities. If I were a terrorist looking to create a major atrocity in the Uk on a day when everyone's eye is off the ball, I know where I would be looking to strike.

ChelsyHandy · 14/09/2014 17:40

WildThong Although it achieved what it wanted, everyone is talking about BBC bias hmm. Clever.

Yes, that's what he does. And what some of his supporters do. Its a very deliberate behavioural pattern. The effect is what they are after, rather than the message.

They are not genuine people, interested in improving people's lives. They are mono-issue and interested in only one thing, and will deploy whatever tricks are helpful in trying to achieve that. Media bias is one such trick.

WildThong · 14/09/2014 17:41

Luckytwo · 14/09/2014 17:41

But Nick Robinson made such a thing of it. Ans as it is pretty normal for politicians to not answer the question asked, it was all a bit weird behaviour by nr and the bbc.
The sooner it is Friday the better. I think the whole things gone a bit mad, and I think most people will be certain of how they're going to vote by now.
I think it's a bit unfair to call the no voters calculating and more reserved, I am sure everyone on both sides has done about as much thinking and deciding as they can based on the information available to them.

I hope there is a decent majority one way or the other and that that will be the end of the matter.

dementedma · 14/09/2014 17:45

Sorry thong probably being over dramatic but I work with MoD in a small capacity and getting onto the bases to meet with people is getting harder and harder. There is an issue around the referendum with military on standby to support police should numpties on either side kick off, so with resources already stretched....it probably won't happen but it would be a bloody spectacular time to do it!

Luckytwo · 14/09/2014 17:46

Well done Yes. Salmond's day of glory with the world media didn't result in the press being over - awed by his wonderfulness.

The demonstration at the BBC makes you look ridiculous. The suggestions that Russia Today and Russian TV are fairer make you look ridiculous.

I'm past caring whether this particular comment upsets you. I'm just back from the No rally in Edinburgh and it seems Scotland has taken leave of its senses.

grovel · 14/09/2014 17:52

It'll be safer after independence.

You'll be defended by Alex Salmond's "Blue and White Army". Comprising 3,000 boy scouts and girl guides.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 14/09/2014 17:52

Looks like they weren't too far of the mark!
