to think that an adult shouldn't be blowing on their food to cool it down?

Just wondering.

I think it's not really ok for an adult to blow on their food rather than waiting a bit for it to cool down. DP thinks it's perfectly reasonable. AIBU?

I agree with your dh.

mrsmaturin · 09/09/2014 20:17

In the context of their own home I think they can do what the heck they like tbh. It's not like chewing with their mouths open I imo anyway.

Dumbledoresgirl · 09/09/2014 20:17

DP, sorry.

PureMorning · 09/09/2014 20:18

Oooooh i blow on my food. Is it a massive faux pas?

HappyYoni · 09/09/2014 20:18

Yabu

CeliaBowen · 09/09/2014 20:18

Normal, surely, as long as it's not huge puffs going on everyone else.
What else are you supposed to do? Burn your mouth?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/09/2014 20:18

Yabu. Are you his mother?

phantomnamechanger · 09/09/2014 20:18

YABU, IMHO. Food should be served piping hot, too hot to eat, so you blow on it.

CrohnicallyPissedOff · 09/09/2014 20:19

Yep, YABU. If my food arrives, I'm hungry, and it's too hot, I'm going to blow on it. Especially if it's in a restaurant and the plate is superheated, it could take hours before it's cool enough to enjoy!

(Disclaimer- I'm referring to one quick blow on the fork on it's way to my mouth. I don't make a big song and dance over it, or blow the food on my plate)

LocalVelvet · 09/09/2014 20:19

YANBU.

This drives me mad. I have friends who Actually Tell My Dcs to do this. Gad.

roses2 · 09/09/2014 20:19

I blow on my food...

OrangeTart · 09/09/2014 20:20

YABU. Like someone above said, you serve food piping hot to kill germs then blow on it gently to cool it enough to eat.

HilariousInHindsight · 09/09/2014 20:20

I can do what the hell I like with my own food.

I might be very hungry and not have any time to wait or toddler will run and cause mischief

I might be sensitive to hot food and therefore I don't want to eat it too hot but I want to eat when everyone else does.

Why does it bother you?

That's more a cause for concern.

CrohnicallyPissedOff · 09/09/2014 20:20

Grr autocorrect- I definitely typed its not it's

Grockle · 09/09/2014 20:20

Oh, tis just me then. I shall leave him alone Grin

phantomnamechanger · 09/09/2014 20:21

I'd rather folk blew on it (quietly/discreetly) even in public, rather than slurp noisily or do that open mouthed shuttling-their-food-about-while-inhaling-cooling-air thing because it's too hot.

NoraRobertsismyguiltypleasure · 09/09/2014 20:21

Bit on the fence here. My DP has a habit of blowing on his food cause he's in a hurry to eat it. I think it's a bit rude, but as long as he doesn't do when we're out I'm not fussed.

FindoGask · 09/09/2014 20:21

what the FUCK.

rideyourbike · 09/09/2014 20:21

In your own home, do what you like. In a restaurant with posh people, maybe not.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/09/2014 20:21

So do you accept that you are going to burn your mouth on your food, or do you wave each forkful round until it cools, Grockle, or do you wait to start eating until it is cool enough to eat - so a lot of it will be stone cold by the time you finish? Confused

I blow on my food - I do it in a reasonably polite way - not too loud or too hard. I agree with your dh, I am afraid.

FindoGask · 09/09/2014 20:21

(YABU, BTW)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/09/2014 20:21

Having said all that, I like hot food to be really, really hot - so don't actually understand why anybody would want to cool it down!

SailorEverRose · 09/09/2014 20:22

Only on MN would you get this kind of problem.

In the real world if the person on the next table to me at a restaurant blew on their food I wouldn't even notice let alone give any fucks about it.

Can I have dinner at your house OP? Then I can blow on my food and you and your DP can have the riveting and intellectual debate of whether I should or should not be doing that. Sounds like a fab evening.

KeemaNaanAndCurryOn · 09/09/2014 20:23

I blow on my food if it's hot, regardless of where I eat. Seems reasonable to me!
