TheBogQueen that was a classic. Thanks for posting that link. Jeane really did wipe the floor of Andrew there!! He well and truly was put in his place.

I'm sorry but I can't actually get into the police debate.

WhatWouldFreddieDo · 05/09/2014 20:11

Santana that is a fabulous bit of wriggling!

So we hate nuclear and want nothing more to do with it
But, oh dear, in the end we quite like Nato's protection
And if we don't ask questions, they wont' tell us when a nasty old nuke's on Glasgow's doorstep

brilliant Grin

Lady it tends to be those who are in high flying careers that can afford large properties in Edinburgh, usually in the finance sector. I do know many professionals but none who are earning enough to afford properties in Edinburgh with this budget already mentioned above.

DH is originally from the Edinburgh area but we cannot afford to move back there because so many people from down south are moving in and pushing up the house prices for locals.

IrnBruTheNoo · 05/09/2014 20:14

And Lady my social circle is just fine, but thanks for asking :)

SantanaLopez · 05/09/2014 20:18

Santana that is a fabulous bit of wriggling!

Isn't it? Outstanding cheek really. I don't like nuclear weapons, but I'd far rather know what was there and what wasn't.

Re Faslane, as far as I remember there was a FOI request which showed Faslane employed about 500 Scots. I think the plan is to base iScotland naval forces from there which would actually employ more people.

TheBogQueen · 05/09/2014 20:22

Well scotland is not experiencing anything like the boom in England.£265,000 is a bloody bargain if you have property in London.

IrnBruTheNoo · 05/09/2014 20:25

"As to your objection about so many people from down south moving in and pushing up house prices for locals, that seems to me to smack of the very anti Englishness so many yes voters are at pains to deny."

Lady It is nothing to do with 'Anti-Englishness' as you put it, but to do with a matter of fact! It has been the case for several years now, and even parts of Fife(!!) are difficult to buy property in now because people originally from Edinburgh are being pushed out of their turf and across the water. Obviously I'm seeing this from a different angle! And then this has a knock on effect for local in Fife wanting to upsize...

I'll have a go at back stories another time when I'm not working and have more time.

I think that what you think about an 80 k salary says a lot about you. It is an unfathomable amount for the majority of people in our country. And if you don't realise that I think you should be worried about how out of touch you are .

Sallyingforth · 05/09/2014 20:34

deeedeee if you were offered a job at £80k would you turn it down?
Be honest now!

StatisticallyChallenged · 05/09/2014 20:34

I don't earn anything like 80k, so it's a dream salary for me too. I just see a difference between what, certainly in Edinburgh, is a highish professional salary and super rich. That's not saying it's not a lot of money, or that it would not seem like a vast amount to many many people.

AnnieGetYourTazer14 · 05/09/2014 20:35

TheBogQueen
I'm sorry but I can't actually get into the police debate. I understand what you are saying but that surely does not preclude you from understanding that UK agencies are integral to Scottish safety and security. There is no coherent strategy for replacement.
Deeedee still haven't heard your thoughts on Chapter 6, Defence. Ignorance is not bliss.

frankie80 · 05/09/2014 20:38

been having a right giggle at the sky news video tonight

weatherall · 05/09/2014 20:43

Grand theft- I haven't been able to find that yet (I'm still searching) but in the meantime I found this on the current (August 14) Scottish housing market.

Hopefully, those who are losing their jobs can retrain...

weatherall · 05/09/2014 20:50

Using mi5 and mi6 as a reason to stay in the UK is laughable.

They didn't do very well at keeping glasgow airport safe when terrorists tried to bomb it did they?

weatherall · 05/09/2014 20:52

We are not safe in a war mongering country like the UK that spends billions following George bush into illegal wars against the public's will.

And do you know how many attempts have been foiled?
What an extraordinarily arrogant and foolish thing to say.

grandtheftmanual · 05/09/2014 20:57

Weatherall thanks - that's interesting. We obviously live in a very downmarket area! We also bought at the top of the market in 2006, so a rate rise is Shock - but we did calculate our affordability up to 12% interest rates so fingers crossed.

Hey - I seem to have morphed into a Hampstead yummy mummy talking about mortgages and house prices at the dinner table. With wine.

ChelsyHandy · 05/09/2014 21:22

weatherall writes off half of Edinburgh, while IrnBru dismisses the Scottish finance sector. Meanwhile, FannyFifer is still missing in action, possibly on the campaign trail or manning the stumps at the local community café.

For those who think 80k pa is an unusual salary in Edinburgh, have a look at www.espc.co.uk for property prices. Someone is buying them!

(Someone is also buying the 1/2 million plus new builds around my way, and it doesn't look like finance sector workers to me, because they all have vans saying "drainage consultant", "plumber" and "electrician" outside them. But never mind, I'm all for the working man (and woman) me. Never diss anyone for doing an honest day's work and being well remunerated for it.

The question is, who will be allowed in an independent Scotland, and what will they be permitted to do? They won't be allowed to earn 80k pa, that's for sure, such derision and division has it caused. They are not to be allowed to work for extensive monetary gain, because that's selfish. They shalt not buy bread.

Is that a fair summary of the Yes arguments today
