OOAOML

That's really good. A woohoo from me!

A forum I used to frequent had, I seem to remember, a 'party streamer' emoticon. In the absence of that let's have some Flowers and some Cake.

chocoluvva · 05/09/2014 14:37

And woo hoo from me too.

BardarbungaBardarbing · 05/09/2014 14:43

weatherall your loaf of bread analogy mmm...just more hyperbole.

There are people on this thread who have repeatedly said their jobs will leave Scotland in the case of a Yes vote. I think that is quite insulting to call that scaremongering and somehow blame them for future problems. No one here is grabbing bread away from of old folk and orphans.Hmm

Great article on Elaine C Smith's take on it all. She did great the other night on the STV debate.

IrnBruTheNoo · 05/09/2014 14:44

Bloody hell the article has vanished!

IrnBruTheNoo · 05/09/2014 14:44

The heading says it all though Wink

BardarbungaBardarbing · 05/09/2014 15:04

Lady I think you're being very obtuse and twisting my words. Either that or we're both in a position to politely agree to disagree about our values.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 05/09/2014 15:28

Education is NOT controlled in terms of spending by Westminster. The Scottish Government chooses how to slice up the pie

Indeed. But the size of the pie is determined by Westminster.

And the size of the pie is a reflection of the contributions made to that pie. When those contributions lessen, as they inevitably will in a tiny little state such as the SNP advocate, one where financial services and those who pay taxes have fled, the pie will be very, very much smaller.

Those who care about education, NHS, anything really apart from a romantic vision of loveliness peddled by the SNP really need to vote No. A Yes vote is a vote for poor educational standards, a much diminished and impoverished NHS in a much poorer country where these things will not be prioritised over Salmond and his ilk trying to spend money to get themselves to the top table internationally.

WildThong · 05/09/2014 15:54

"ElaineCSmith" , taking the last loaf of bread and leaving a poor soul to starve, Brigadoon stories, et al - what a steaming pile of pxxx.
It's like listening to that Trotskyite Rosie Kane and her ilk. [shite with steam emoticon]

IrnBruTheNoo · 05/09/2014 16:11

You may well mock WildThong but it is usually those who mock who are so blinkered by their wealth to see what's really happening. It's utterly disgusting the amount of food banks popping up around Scotland, and after speaking to a chaplain who opened the local one near me he said it is getting worse because of austerity. He noticed a direct link with benefit cuts amongst those who are working, their wages just aren't living wages. IMO Scotland is only going to get worse under WM rule. That is why Scotland needs to become independent and I will be up early to vote on the 18th - to vote Yes.

IrnBruTheNoo · 05/09/2014 16:12

Elaine C Smith spoke a lot of sense at the last televised debate on STV. She knows the reality of it and goes around community centres speaking to real people who are affected by the realities of a WM government.

IrnBruTheNoo · 05/09/2014 16:14

"There is a real undercurrent of nastiness aimed at anyone better off from lots of yes voters - you included."

I think you'll find people are not directing their frustration out on you personally, but more because of the inequality and the gap between rich and poor which seems to be ever widening.

deeedeee · 05/09/2014 16:26

Nobody has mentioned brigadoon, brave heart, utopia and I for one haven't insulted anyone. I've tried to be lighthearted passionate and thoughtful in the face of many many insults. I've been talking about optimism ambition and confidence as a force for political change with regards to what is happening in Scotland just now, and pointing out the fear of recession causing recessions. This is not stupid or insulting, it's another way to look at the whole debate! If the vote is yes, then independance will only succeed if everyone gets behind it. That is why I played devil's advocate and said it'd be the people who didn't get behind it would be contributing to it's failure.

It's becoming clearer to me that yes can't win even if they win, because according to some of you the people who pay taxes are voting no! Which is obviously untrue.

The only thing I'm starting to agree with the majority of you on is that if the vote is going to be as close as it seems, it could be a very sad and divisive situation.

I do feel sorry for those of you that feel you have no choice but to leave. It must be a shame to feel you have so little options. I guess security and poverty actually have that in common.

And the size of the pie is a reflection of the contributions made to that pie.

Scotland generates 9.9% of UK tax take, which all goes to WM. They then spend 9.3% of total spending on Scotland.

When those contributions lessen, as they inevitably will in a tiny little state such as the SNP advocate, one where financial services and those who pay taxes have fled, the pie will be very, very much smaller.

There are many many countries smaller than Scotland in geographical size, and in population.

IrnBruTheNoo · 05/09/2014 16:29

"I'm not responsible for the perceived gulf"

That kind of attitude is why people are being nasty though, don't you get it??? Having the 'I don't give a toss, I'm alright Jack' attitude is what gets peoples' backs up. I have not made any personal references to your life as I don't even know you or what your wealth is, but to come away with such throw away comments doesn't help your case.

It's funny but I smell the shite Wildfong far more when David Cameron and his ilk speak far more than with Rosie Kane. (Or does the shit of the super rich really not stink?)

Iggi999 · 05/09/2014 16:36

Sorry that should be Wildthong

IrnBruTheNoo · 05/09/2014 16:39

Well said iggi.
