Right, gotta love ya and leave to do some paid work Grin

weatherall · 04/09/2014 09:34

Lady Cordelia mentioned income tax a few posts up.

Sallyingforth · 04/09/2014 09:36

The white paper doesn't say anything about increasing income tax

Of course not. The Wishlist is trying to fool people into thinking they can have all sorts of wonderful things for nothing.
And some people actually believe that Alec Salmond can deliver them.
Mind you, I used to believe Santa Claus could deliver all my Xmas presents.

Perhaps Salmond IS Santa???

weatherall · 04/09/2014 09:38

Now you are just spouting out right lies. (LDF)

Yes, weatherall, but the nationality of the bank is doesn't matter. It's the currency of the country the branch is in that matters.

All those banks obviously hold sterling accounts as that's our currency, but after the 19th, who knows?

I would feel safer moving our savings into an English-based sterling account for the 18 months/2 years it takes to sort out iScotland. Then decide what and when to move funds back.

The Curriculum for Excellence is not in it's first year!

It has been 8 years in the making and 5 years in practice where I am and it is a stinking mess. Politicised, narrow, woolly, insular rubbish.

Many Scottish HT think the same.

(English system is also poor, politicised etc and a right mess)

but let's not pretend the CfE is anything other than what it is, 8 years in...

Hmm
weatherall · 04/09/2014 09:41

The yes campaign isn't Salmond or the snp. Most campaigners aren't snp members.

When you keep equating the two you weaken your argument because if you are willing to deceive undecideds about that why should anyone believe anything else you say?

weatherall · 04/09/2014 09:43

The current tax raising powers of the Scottish parliament are less than even individual states in USA have.

There is no rational reason why Scotland shouldn't have its own tax and welfare system and independence is the only way to deliver this.

BardarbungaBardarbing · 04/09/2014 09:45

Equally the no campaign isn't a "vote for the Tories" campaign either, but we are ENDLESSLY being bombarded with "but we got a Tory government we didn't vote for" by yes campaigners. Fine, but I got an SNP government I didn't vote for, and look at the havoc they're wreaking now!

weatherall · 04/09/2014 09:47

Lies? Homelessness and Free Scoll Meals.

I have 2 DCs in school so I know cfe has been around for a while. I was referring to the new exams.

I've been happy with the delivery of cfe in primary. The report cards take a little getting used to but the standard of education is higher than when I was at primary.

I'd rather own a supermarket than be standing outside with a fiver in my pocket Wink

Jim Sillars has been giving speeches at yes events arguing for a Scottish currency. I'm sure one of those must be on you tube. Maybe go look for it.

I see currency union as a temporary measure so we don't have to change too much all at once.

Any of the currency options are preferable to the current system.

Weatherall, the White Wishlist was published by the Scottish government run by the SNP. It was introduced by Salmond who constantly quotes the ridiculously optimistic promises. Of course they are the one and the same.

weatherall · 04/09/2014 09:56

There are people in temporary accommodation (usually temporary furnished flats) awaiting social housing allocation but rooflessness and long term homelessness has been eradicated for all but the very few who have been 'institutionalised' by the system.

Universal free school meals only started with a Scottish government pilot in 2009.

If you keep talking about how it will be a disaster, how you will move your savings, how you will have to move , then you will cause these things to happen. Talking about a recession, moving your money south, enquiring about house moves will help cause a recession.

Confidence and hope are quantities that you lambast. But without them, with people talking like you lot are, a recession is more likely to happen. You say that salmond is making not talking about the risks, but ofcourse he isn't. He wants to encourage confidence and strength. That's not dishonest, it's good economic sense. Everyone knows that the future is uncertain and that life contains risks. We just don't want our fears to become self fulfilling prophecies.

My husband and many friends work in FS services in Edinburgh. Many of them are yes voters who are passionate and ready to believe in independence, diversify, work hard and start building. I don't believe that all of the people with houses, savings, jobs Etc are voting no and moving south. And neither do the 50% plus that are voting yes . We have confidence. And we're not ashamed.

So stop continuing to predict gloom cloaked in pragmatism. If you have concerns, if Scotland is your home then stick around make it work for all of us, not just you.

Lady Cordelia your £80k income does make you super rich compared to most of the UK. You are out of touch with most people's experience of the double dip recession of the last 6 years which has seen the rich get richer and the poor turn to pay day lenders and food banks.

You may be happy with the status quo and guarantee of further cuts to the disabled, child poverty increasing because your wealth shields you. For most people they have seen their standard of living decrease in recent years. We are not better together and want change. I wouldn't expect you to understand that.

Go back to complaining that your diamond shoes are too tight.
