I's a couple of weeks old now.

PacificDogwood · 01/09/2014 22:12

Argh, you made click on a Sun link, ma eyes, ma eyes!

Hm.

I don't really like polls. I don't think any poll can truly predict what happens on the day.

frankie, oh dear. Apologise, accept you were the one who made a mistake and hope for the best? Good luck.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/09/2014 22:13

I think there is one every week now, last on referendum eve....

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/09/2014 22:13

Argh, you made click on a Sun link, ma eyes, ma eyes!

The best bit of the article is in the URL anyway Grin

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/09/2014 22:15

Vivienne Westwood just made speech at Scottish Fashion Awards supporting a Yes vote..

SantanaLopez · 01/09/2014 22:15

Oh dear Frankie . Grovel I think- I really hope it works out.

OP posts:
PacificDogwood · 01/09/2014 22:17

That's v true.
Makes clicking on the link even more pointless Grin

Thanks for the men in kilts Smile

Actually, I took me years to not see men in kilts as some kind of quaint touristy thing, much like Lederhosen in Bavaria are a bit of an embarrassment to many, but actually have a lot of history to them.
Anybody been to the Drover's Inn north of Loch Lomond? That's were you see a kilt worn as it was intended stands by itself as it's not been washed for aeons, worn by v sturdy bar keep who looks like an extra from Braveheart Grin

Sallyingforth · 01/09/2014 22:18

Vivienne Westwood just made speech at Scottish Fashion Awards supporting a Yes vote..

Ah well, that settles it then.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/09/2014 22:19

Ah well, that settles it then.

I thought people may be interested, I wasn't inferring anything from it.

PacificDogwood · 01/09/2014 22:21

She does make nice frocks that suit my large backside Grin

Oh, I love edifying debate Wink

tilliebob · 01/09/2014 22:31

I haven't taken much notice of what any celeb thinks of the referendum. Actually I don't care much for the politicians either the desire to be a policitian should bar them from ever being one, as a wise man once said Grin

deeedeee · 01/09/2014 22:39

I'm glad that at least you pacificfogwood have watched the robin macalpine video. Why are the rest of you ignoring me again?

oh and all of you that are still worrying about the sinister mob aspect of the Yes campaign, the Scottish Police think otherwise www.spf.org.uk/2014/09/spf-media-release-independence-referendum/

FannyFifer · 01/09/2014 22:41

Not the Sun, the Times
YES 47 NO 53

MrsAmaretto · 01/09/2014 22:45

Why do we need armed forces (apart to make employment)?

SantanaLopez · 01/09/2014 22:46

That sounds more like I was expecting Fanny.

Can't wait for this to be over :(

OP posts:
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 01/09/2014 22:49

Not the Sun, the Times
YES 47 NO 53

It's unclear whether they shared a poll, or just coincidentally commissioned same poll at same time. That's a massive swing though. Wings is crediting the WBB Grin

Why do we need armed forces

To punch above our weight
To maintain our international reputation
To take part in illegal wars...

SantanaLopez · 01/09/2014 22:52

Why do we need armed forces (apart to make employment)?

International security, mainly, but also a bit of politics, most of it related to the EU and NATO.

Entry requirements for the EU now state that countries joining must have a sizeable army which is part of the common (EU) defence policy and which can be called upon for various reasons, including peacekeeping and potentially war.

(Ireland isn't in NATO though)

MrsAmaretto · 01/09/2014 22:54

I've not decided what I'll vote, but the thought of choosing to become an independent country, then the current political establishment saying we'll have exactly the same structure of quangos, huge number of MSPs armed forces, head of state etc. puts me off voting yes. I can't see how we can change society within my lifetime by voting Yes.

PhaedraIsMyName · 02/09/2014 01:36

Could one of Eck's fans explain if Eck is so worried about creeping privatisation of the NHS he has awarded a substantial contract to deal with obesity to Weight Watchers?

PhaedraIsMyName · 02/09/2014 01:41

And this is just great too. It must have been reported with gritted teeth given how gushing The Guardian usually is with its idea of how lovely it all will be in the people's democratic republic of Brigadoon.

Scottish universities braced for brain drain if country votes for independence

PhaedraIsMyName · 02/09/2014 01:44

MrsAmaretto and don't forget all the embassies and consulates which vanity will dictate will be needed everywhere the UK has them.

OldLadyKnowsSomething · 02/09/2014 02:27

There is a difference between using private providers to catch up with a temporary backlog of NHS patients, and contracting out those services on a long-term basis, Phaeadra.

No, MrsA, we won't simply recreate what we already have; as you say, that would be a nonsense. But after a Yes vote, we can all have our input to a new Constitution, a whole new country, run the way we want it to run. Who wouldn't want that?

The question is often asked on FB/Twitter, but I haven't seen it here much; if the question to a currently indy Scotland was "Do you want to form a Union with rUK?", what would you say?

(I know it has been asked before on these threads, but it bears asking again, as I have yet to see a sensible answer. One may have been made, and I just missed it....)

stoppedlurking56 · 02/09/2014 03:38

Mesa - I was put off by that too, but have realised that gradual .change is a good thing. The transitional costs and cultural shifts needed would otherwise be even.higher....I think - hope - a lot of these things would change eventually. If you think it is worth doing in principle, then...the long game. That's what I am weighing up. I think it is a historic opportunity and not taking it is as much of a gamble.

stoppedlurking56 · 02/09/2014 03:38

Sorry that was to MrsAmaretto.
