Do you shower every day?

The thread about taking an hour made me wonder.

In the morning I:

Clean teeth and listerine (10 mins)

Shower including hair wash with conditioner and shave legs and armpits every other day (10 mins)

Dry and straighten hair (10 mins)

Makeup, dress, earrings and other accessories (10 mins)

I can cut this down but I dawdle and make cups of tea, watch tv in between so yeah about an hour. But some people seem to just wash?

So what is the average?

I need soap (or similar) to wash because skin oils are not water soluble. I assume you use soap to wash your hands?

Thanks for the downstairs explanation - perhaps I'm a particularly efficient wiper, as even the accumulation of those doesn't make me dirty in 24h. I certainly don't have a lot of discharge partly because of my Pill.

Mintyy · 29/08/2014 13:51

Why does a shower take you 10 minutes when you are not washing your hair?

Well, that would be because I really enjoy my daily shower and I take my time over it. I don't rush through it because I choose not to.

Can you imagine?

ThirteenMeetings · 29/08/2014 13:56

I shower every day and take at least a hour to get ready.

Shower takes 10-15 minutes - wash face, wash body, scrub feet, shave under arms / legs and then wash hair every other day. I blow dry and style my hair, put on make-up and often faff about for a bit on my outfit, deciding on shoes / earrings, etc.

Plus cup of tea, hanging out washing, etc. Also two days a week I have to sort the baby out, so that adds another 45 minutes getting her fed, changed, making her milk, and getting her ready for nursery.

I work in Central London in a fairly posh office, and travelling in on public transport makes me a bit sticky - I would feel unpresentable and anti-social if I didn't shower every morning. Different if I'm just mooching around at home in jeans, obviously.

ThisIsNotTheRealMe · 29/08/2014 14:04

Fair enough if it's just for enjoyment. I was just wondering how dirty someone would have to be for it to take them 10 mins to ran themselves Grin

Is it patronising to feel sorry for people that society makes them feel they have to mess about with washing hair, unnecessarily shaving various parts of their body, putting crap cosmetics on their face and wearing the required jewellery?

I do it because I like to feel groomed,I enjoy doing my hair and putting on cosmetics, perfume and jewelery. I like to see myself look this way. I even do it when I'm not leaving the house - it has nothing to do with society or anyone else how I choose to look or how much time I spend on it.

Its all about me,me ,me.......................

itsbetterthanabox · 29/08/2014 14:27

MrsHathaway we all wipe properly! Confused
It's just even with wiping poo and wee has still got on your body. If you you got even a tiny bit of poo on your arm would you dry wipe it or clean it properly with soap? Same thing. You may not notice it but it is definitely there.
Also you do produce discharge. If you didn't you would be sore from being so dry down below! Everyone sweats and makes dead skin and oils. These things do need washing away with cleanser.

schokolade · 29/08/2014 14:34

Sometimes reading mn I wonder how anybody ever gets anything done. I have read people:

  • showering twice a day
  • washing hair every day
  • washing towels after one use
  • washing all clothes after 1 wear
  • bleaching the toilet twice daily
  • changing bed sheets twice a week
  • cleaning the oven weekly

Surely different people must be doing different parts of that list?! I hope so anyway, because if I did all that I'd never actually do anything of real substance.

Lweji · 29/08/2014 14:36

I don't do all that, but I do spend a lot of time on the net or watching tv.
And have a nice breakfast with my DS.

MrsHathaway · 29/08/2014 14:41

By that logic you'd shower every time you went to the loo Confused Hmm

Having said that, I find that pubic topiary affects how clean I feel down there - too much hair traps grot; too little increases discharge. I appreciate there are physical and chemical reasons for varying gussets. When I had a cycle I had drier, wetter and dirtier days.

Lweji · 29/08/2014 14:43

By that logic you'd shower every time you went to the loo
or you could use the bidet next to it. :)

But it's like sweat. You don't wash every hour, but at regular intervals to make sure the dirt doesn't accumulate too much.

Mintyy · 29/08/2014 14:47

Thanks for sharing MrsHathaway.

I have a poo in the early morning and have a shower sometime between 8 and 9.30am.

Therefore I win and am perfect.

MoominKoalaAndMiniMoom · 29/08/2014 14:49

I don't understand how people keep their shampoo smell after straightening. My hair never smells of shampoo. Just burning hair. :(

MrsHathaway · 29/08/2014 14:49

Well, yes Grin and the only argument is how often "frequent" ought to be.

worldgonecrazy · 29/08/2014 15:06

I take 15 minutes to shower, make up, dress and hair. I don't wash my hair every day as it is prone to frizz.

But, to show off a little, I did once go from sweaty mess after rubbish day at work, to sparkly and Black Tie Dinner ready in 10 minutes, including shower, make up and hair, though I did cheat with the hair and put it into a posh bun.

FavaBeanPyramidScheme · 29/08/2014 15:45

I have two baths a day. Do I win something? Grin

FavaBeanPyramidScheme · 29/08/2014 15:47

Mrshathaway Grin Grin Grin That just made me laugh my head off.

itsbetterthanabox · 29/08/2014 16:46

In most countries they do wash their bums with water after every bowel movement. It's only in the west we use dry tissue. We are a bit gross. So showering at least every 24 hours stops it building up too much!
Mintyy Grin at your poo schedule!

Ilovenicesoap · 29/08/2014 16:54

I just don't understand why popping in the shower every day is such a drama for some people?
As opposed to washing face, fanny, pits -easier and nicer to hop under the shower.
As for equating daily showering with skin infections-well yes if you scrub yourself with boiling water and a nail brush !!!! (That made me laugh)
I cycle so I have a daily shower and then a warm bath in the evening for relaxation.

LilMissSunshine9 · 29/08/2014 16:59

my paretns have a plastic bottle in their bathroom to wash their bums after doing the deed, when they come to mine I have to make sure one is available just in case. when I was younger I used to wash my bum too using a plastic bottle but once I went to uni fell out of that habit.

I am considering a bidet but not sure if it puts people off when you go to sell your house....

LilMissSunshine9 · 29/08/2014 17:00

note plastic bottle filled with water lol

ElephantsNeverForgive · 29/08/2014 17:02

Because I have long thick hair. It doesn't need washing everyday.

But if I get it damp and steamy in a shower it makes it greasy and then it does need washing.
