Shrieking, arm flapping and mincing.

What am I missing? I'm sure she's a lovely woman but good lawd I cannot see the appeal.

calling it rubbish sounds so childish!

amert · 27/08/2014 15:22

"& you have to be fairly intelligent to 'get her'"

Seriously snorted at this one. Dear oh dear.

shakethetree · 27/08/2014 15:24

Haha - oh come on, she appeals to the middle class intellectuals, just like her mate Peter Gabriel - nothing wrong with that.
I think she's brilliant, but then I love anyone who's a bit different.

ArsenicyOldFace · 27/08/2014 15:24

It's still taste shake, not an IQ test.

ArsenicyOldFace · 27/08/2014 15:26

but then I love anyone who's a bit different.

And I could test that dubious blanket claim, but I won't be mean Grin

noddyholder · 27/08/2014 15:26

DP is downstairs now watching her on catch up I can hear all the music and it is so beautiful. In some ways the media circus of these gigs has spoiled it a bit for me I loved it when she had only toured once and then disappeared and in some ways I hope it does all get too much and she goes running up the hill and back to obscurity.

mumtosome61 · 27/08/2014 15:27

This Woman's Work was for a film but was on the Sensual World album. It's been used for loads of stuff - NSPCC was probably the most obvious one. That song gets me every time.

I don't think you have to be intelligent to appreciate her work. Understanding her lyrics may be easier if you have the same kind of mindset, but it's not a given.

OnlyLovers · 27/08/2014 16:05

Shock Grin

Ah, that'll explain it. I am after all as thick as two short planks.

PigletJohn · 27/08/2014 16:16

or maybe, people with a good ear and a very discerning taste in music won't like her.

ArsenicyOldFace · 27/08/2014 16:16

Maybe if all us thickos sit nicely in a line Only, shake will come back and explain it to us Wink

fairnotfair · 27/08/2014 16:18

I think she is very original and an excellent songwriter and performer.

I also think she sounds like a parakeet trapped in a windchime factory.

JennyOnTheBlocks · 27/08/2014 16:21

I'm proper thick but did I mention I've got a ticket Grin

ArsenicyOldFace · 27/08/2014 16:22

Interesting. Because her dancing reminds me of a pigeon that fell down our chimney once and frantically flapped around trying to escape.

And now I am going to have to give myself lines about bitchiness Sad

Gunznroses · 27/08/2014 16:27

Her music and dancing scares the shit out of me! surprised when i watched an interview of her yesterday and they mentioned she was NINETEEN!

Greyhound · 27/08/2014 16:30

I love WH but didn't like Running Up That Hill, Don't Give Up or Hounds Of Love. Don't know much of the rest of her catalogue, nor would I attend her concerts.

She's very strange but, going on this thread, I am obviously missing something.

Arsenicy, I hope so!

chockbic · 27/08/2014 16:43

No she is brilliant and deep and quirky and metaphorical.

hellymelly · 27/08/2014 18:40

Love her. Remember everyone talking about her in school aftre Wuthering Heights was on Top of the Pops, and thinking the girls making fun of her were idiots. Still love her now, wish I had tickets.

buggerthebotox · 27/08/2014 18:43

Frog I wondered why she's left it so long to make a public comeback, too. I find her interesting musically and quirky but I can't remember her being massively highly regarded in her heyday, so it must be for the benefit of the misty-eyed old gimmers amongst us?

SwiftRelease · 27/08/2014 19:32

Yadnbu, gawd i hate her stuff! Except dont give up as with Peter Gabriel. Hate edpecially WH and that hill crap. Immediate switchoff! Absolutely fail to get her appeal. Or recognise a shred of talent in the woman.

JackyNotts · 27/08/2014 19:42

Unadulterated, uncompromising, unforgettable and spectacular show by a uniquely and supremely talented singer, songwriter, musician, record producer and performance choreographer. I absolutely loved it and she's always been one of my favourite artistes.

Floisme · 27/08/2014 20:03

I can still remember hearing Wuthering Heights for the first time on Top of the Pops and going 'What the hell...?' and a friend telling me 'No, listen, this is good.' And how right he was.

I'm almost the same age as Kate Bush and our sons are both 16 so I like to think we were separated at birth. Some chance Grin

But I don't really care whether people like her or not and I'm sure she doesn't either.

CharlotteCollins · 27/08/2014 20:08

I like Running up the Hill, but I don't like Wuthering Heights.

Come to think of it, I didn't like the book first.

awfulomission · 27/08/2014 20:49

I'm highly unintelligent and I like her. Is that the same as 'getting' her?

I like her originality and that she does her own thing. The music's not an easy listen sometimes but she hasn't felt the need to be part of a 'scene'. I found it interesting that on that show she explained in an interview that, partly, she moved out of London to keep her ideas original; she didn't want to be influenced by anyone.

I never 'got' Morrissey though. Or The Smiths...
