despite what the tabloids will say?

There surely aren't the resources to keep some prisoners 'seperate'. There must be a few child killers in this prison, don't see why certain ones should be special

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 19:58

There are many types of mental imbalance; Temporary or not. I'm tempted to agree with bella. It is almost the definition of 'losing your grip' to do what she did.

Her attempt at a cover up wasn't particularly rational either.

Which isn't to excuse the crime or diminish the impact.

That isn't uncommon MrsJayy.
very sad but not uncommon. Sad

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 25/08/2014 19:59

The siblings may not live together but they are far, far more likely to grow up with a meaningful relationship if the remain within their birth families.

But their father is not the little girl's birth family, he had an affair with RA and has had no involvement in the twins life. Whereas her mother and sister seem to want to care for her. I would absolutely leave her with them and not disrupt her life further by sending her to live with total strangers with only conception as a connection.

hollyisalovelyname · 25/08/2014 20:00

Isn't life at times just desperate.
So many lovely people unable to have children and others who have them treat them so badly.
R.I.P. little fellow.

Nicknacky · 25/08/2014 20:02

I'm not sure why people are disagreeing with who should have the children and decide who they think should have them!

I'm fairly sure the situation would have been thoroughly looked at before any long term decision would be made!

HeySoulSister · 25/08/2014 20:03

Don't see what infertility has to do with this tbh....

Mrsjayy · 25/08/2014 20:06

Of course they cant keep prisoners seperate but the way this particular prison Is done is its graded if that makes sense so a woman who is in for say theft wont be with prisoners who are seen as unstable not explaining it well but I know what I mean

Mrsjayy · 25/08/2014 20:08

I have seen children singled out by parents if I think about it but not to an extent I was worried

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 20:13

Sorry DeVere I misread.

You're right Nick, I think the shocking aspect was that her dad and grandad had both separately stated their intention to pursue residence and were not speaking to each other. It just seemed sad that there was more discord. The courts will, of course, do their job.

Cornton Vale is split into separate blocks. There's a block for the YO's, a block for those awaiting trial, a block for those serving longer sentences, a unit for mums and babies, amongst others.

If she has been put in Ross house (that's an if) then she has been placed there because she is deemed to be a danger to herself.

There are all sorts of women in CV, for all manner of horrible crimes. They can't all be segregated, there simply isn't the resources or the manpower needed for that.

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 20:21

I'm not sure I see the infertility connection either holly TBH.

The world is indeed brutal and gut-wrenchingly cruel sometimes but children aren't interchangeable commodities.

OP posts:
HeySoulSister · 25/08/2014 20:23

I'm guessing they won't keep her seperate for her full sentence. Suppose she could get moved around

Nicknacky · 25/08/2014 20:27

She is far from a rarity. There has been plenty of women in CV for offences related to children's death, Kim Hainey was one of the recent ones that spring to mind.

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 20:32

She's so high profile though Nick

OP posts:
redshifter · 25/08/2014 20:35

Probably because a custodial sentence for a female offender is far mor likely to disrupt the living arrangements of a child, which is in turn because women are far far more likely to be single parent with residence (or even theonlyparent for their child) than a man is

Of course. That is obvious. And nothing wrong with it IMO.

Just wanted to point out that the "reality" another poster said of mothers getting longer sentences than fathers is not a reality at all but utter nonsense

Also posted this to support your arguement Arsenic. To show that taking the effect the sentence will have on the children of offenders is far from unusual and is in fact the norm.
For mothers it is anyway.

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 20:38

Yes, sorry meant to add to your point, not to sound as though I was arguing with you redshifter

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 25/08/2014 20:40

Most of them are Arsenic. Kim Hainey, Theresa Riggi, Tracey Reid to name but a few. And Rachael and Nyomi Fee are to stand trial for murder of a two year old.

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 20:45

Haven't heard of Kim Hainey.

OP posts:
ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 20:46

But point taken. It's all a bit depressing.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 25/08/2014 20:49

Are you in Scotland? The Kim Hainey was a very high profile case, have a google of it but it is shocking and the pictures of the inside of her house are just dreadful.

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 21:06

No - england. The name didn't ring bells, but now you say that about the house I have an inkling what you mean.

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 25/08/2014 21:10

Ah it was very well publicised in Scotland but obviously I have no idea how well it was covered in English papers. She was convicted of murder but recently her conviction was quashed.

Her poor child was found mummified in his cot. It's beyond horrific.

ArsenicyOldFace · 25/08/2014 21:16

Yes it was reported here but not extensively, I think.

The conviction was quashed? I will go and read about that case.

OP posts:
ilovechristmas1 · 25/08/2014 21:19

omg i have just read about Kim Hainey and remember the case well,i cannot believe her conviction was quashed, just slacked jawed at this
