Was I being a cow or not?????

I was in town earlier when I popped to the loo in Debenhams.

When I walked in a young chav mum was sanding near the sink area talking on her phone (her side of the conversation featured such immortal lines as " yeah but, fucking bitch, I'll have her, cunt etc etc). I kid you not a docker would have blushed!!!

Her DC looked about 2 and was sat quietly in the pushchair.

Anyhow I went to the loo (whilst listening to every word and profanity that young mum was uttering - including the "c" word being used with astounding regularity).

After weeing visiting the toilet I shimmed past aforesaid young mum (who was now perched on a sink with one foot resting on the pushchair) to wash my hands. I was about to dry them in the "Blade air dryer" when she stopped her phone conversation and asked me to wait because her DC didn't like the noise.

Fair enough I thought, expecting young mum to vacate the toilet. But no she carried on her phone call berating some poor lad who was fucking with her 'ead, clearly causing her some degree of upset.

I waited a moment and then asked her if she was going so that I could dry my hands, she told me to "wait". I did wait for a few moments (out of respect to Dc not her) but she remained perched on the sink with the phone attached to her ear. I finally looked pointedly at her, she half turned away from me and carried on the phone call. At this point I shoved my hands in the dryer causing poor DC to scream - chav mum snatched up the pushchair and stormed out of the toilets calling me a cow.

I stand by my actions but am expecting a MN flaming!!!

Ywnbu. I was about to say why would you sit in a public toilet on the phone if your DC was afraid of hand driers but why would you sit in public toilets on the phone full stop? They aren't exactly the nicest of places, especially not for small children. It's a bloody toilet, germs FFS. I just can't picture why that would ever be appropriate.

You could have equally dried your hands on a paper towel/your clothes the first time she asked you not to use the drier though and been out of there a lot quicker. But you were possibly too reasonable and accommodating IMO. She needs to stop hanging out in toilets.

Lol lol this thread is great Grin

All these people making excuses for the c**v when I'd bet if they'd been in the same situation they'd have been as irritated as the OP Grin

Honestly, people are so full of shit Grin

Mrsjayy · 18/08/2014 18:00

Grin pictish ,

slithytove · 18/08/2014 18:00

Oh and as for the original Aibu.

I would have as OP did, waited, however then I would have loudly asked her to leave as I was going to dry my hands.

I would have then dried my hands.

I do feel sorry for the child as I know many hate it and some have sensory processing problems etc, but that is the mums responsibly to protect, and she was given the opportunity by the OP waiting.

I wouldn't have dried my hands on paper or my clothes.

HaroldLloyd · 18/08/2014 18:01

Her mother made her cry by hanging around in the toilets near dryers which tend to go off in public toilets.

slithytove · 18/08/2014 18:01

Is a chave like a chavvy knave?

You blasted knave, desist thine potty mouth

MrsVamos · 18/08/2014 18:02

RUNS.......

HaroldLloyd · 18/08/2014 18:03

People will be saying next she should have shit in a bush not to have disturbed the poor soul.

PhaedraIsMyName · 18/08/2014 18:03

You were not being unreasonable and "chav" is probably OK in this particular situation.

LadyLuck10 · 18/08/2014 18:03

Her child is scared of driers, oh boo hoo. If she was so scared she would have moved Asap out of there. I would not have waited or taken orders from that vile woman.

Mrsjayy · 18/08/2014 18:04

I would have asked her to move tbh but I get the op was being over polite

ithoughtofitfirst · 18/08/2014 18:11

YANBU she sounda a right young chav to me! Foul-mouthed, selfish... if she was on the phone the whole time the OP was using the loo then she had plenty of time to get herself out of there before OP needed to use the drier.
I agree she would probably have told the OP what to do with herself if she offered tea, sympathy or a chat - laughing again at the thought.
My DS offered to help a young chav who was cussin' and blindin' as she struggled with her luggage on the stairs at the station;
DS 'Would you like some help with your luggage'
Young Chav 'Fk off and mind yer own buisness, Fg c*t'
DS 'Ohhh kayyyy...'

ghostland · 18/08/2014 18:16

Only on Mumsnet. Totally barmy Smile. OP you did nothing wrong. You do not need to be retrained. Mum in loos was wrong and entitled.

Alisvolatpropiis · 18/08/2014 18:17

Ywnbu

And this thread is hilarious

Tikimon · 18/08/2014 18:23

And this thread is hilarious

Agreed.

I would be my bottom dollar that if the situation came down to it, the poster offering the tea would just awkwardly sneak out without saying anything. Grin

LegArmpits · 18/08/2014 18:24

This is classic material. OP, she was CHAVTASTIC and a cunt.

hoobypickypicky · 18/08/2014 18:27

YABU but only for not drying your hands immediately. If her child can cope with her chavism language, he can cope with a hand drier.

Takingthemickey · 18/08/2014 18:27

I love this thread. For anyone who wants to buy me a cup of tea and look after my kid please note that I will be effing and blinding in a Debenhams close to you.

People have hearts of gold here.

ithoughtofitfirst · 18/08/2014 18:28
Brew
HaroldLloyd · 18/08/2014 18:29

I am willing to eat my hat if anyone would really do that ever.

HaroldLloyd · 18/08/2014 18:30

Not even Jesus would do that.

Fairyfellowsmasterstroke · 18/08/2014 18:30

Thanks ladies - I feel exonerated of all blame.

I was sorry that the child cried BUT I was more sorry that the mother felt it acceptable to perch her bum on the sink, hold an expletive ridden phone call and ignore the fact that her child would be soaking up such awful words.

When the child starts nursery and calls its peers c*unt, arsehole etc etc, we know who's to blame.

Maybe I should keep a flask of tea with me in case I encounter her again Wink Wink Wink

Jesus wouldn't be in Debenhams. He's strictly John Lewis.
