Was I being a cow or not?????

I was in town earlier when I popped to the loo in Debenhams.

When I walked in a young chav mum was sanding near the sink area talking on her phone (her side of the conversation featured such immortal lines as " yeah but, fucking bitch, I'll have her, cunt etc etc). I kid you not a docker would have blushed!!!

Her DC looked about 2 and was sat quietly in the pushchair.

Anyhow I went to the loo (whilst listening to every word and profanity that young mum was uttering - including the "c" word being used with astounding regularity).

After weeing visiting the toilet I shimmed past aforesaid young mum (who was now perched on a sink with one foot resting on the pushchair) to wash my hands. I was about to dry them in the "Blade air dryer" when she stopped her phone conversation and asked me to wait because her DC didn't like the noise.

Fair enough I thought, expecting young mum to vacate the toilet. But no she carried on her phone call berating some poor lad who was fucking with her 'ead, clearly causing her some degree of upset.

I waited a moment and then asked her if she was going so that I could dry my hands, she told me to "wait". I did wait for a few moments (out of respect to Dc not her) but she remained perched on the sink with the phone attached to her ear. I finally looked pointedly at her, she half turned away from me and carried on the phone call. At this point I shoved my hands in the dryer causing poor DC to scream - chav mum snatched up the pushchair and stormed out of the toilets calling me a cow.

I stand by my actions but am expecting a MN flaming!!!

Some people just swear a lot Chopin.

WandaDoff · 18/08/2014 17:25

can't be arsed

chopinbabe · 18/08/2014 17:28

No OP, by referring to volunteering I was alluding to a remark made by an earlier poster who suggested that this might be the way forward; not suggesting that this was your remark.

I think volunteering is OTT but immediate kindness to this young woman would not be. This is only my opinion of course and there is no need for anyone to blow a gasket.

pictish · 18/08/2014 17:31

Some random refusing to let you use the hand drier in the public toilets while they fuck and cunt down their moby and tell you to 'wait', needs a kick up the arse, not a hot drink and a babysitter!
Aye right!

MyFairyKing · 18/08/2014 17:32

Were you being a cow? No. You are on this thread though.

ithoughtofitfirst · 18/08/2014 17:34

Lmao Grin pictish

HaroldLloyd · 18/08/2014 17:36

Imagine her face if you offered to talk about her issues over a nice cup of tea.

Chopin, have you actually ever done this out of interest?

SistersOfPercy · 18/08/2014 17:38

Oh god this thread just keeps on giving doesn't it?
Grin

notagainffffffffs · 18/08/2014 17:42

Poor chopin :( I know where she is coming from totally and doesn't deserve the blasting she's getting.
The op asked for opinions and theyve been given.
Im so so surprised at how terrified people are of drying their hands on their coat though!

Nalia · 18/08/2014 17:42

I wouldn't have waited the first time. So the kid is afraid of dryers. Don't have a convo in the loo if you dint want your kid around dryers. Otherwise, don't expect people to inconvenience themselves for you or your child's benefit.

So not the child's fault but why are we so protective over kids these days anyway that so many people wouldn't have used he drying facilities in a loo that are public and there to be used just because it might scare a kid? Being scared by something harmless is just that, harmless. If parents avoid exposing kids to scary things that won't hurt them the kids never learn that he scary things won't hurts. Them!

HaroldLloyd · 18/08/2014 17:43

I'm not scared of drying my hands on my coat. I just don't generally dry my hands on my outerwear when there is a dyson blade available because that would be ridiculous.

chopinbabe · 18/08/2014 17:44

The situation has never arisen but my suggestion is what I would ideally like to do if it did.

Does one have to experience an AIBU situation before one can proffer a suggestion? If that is the case, I would have liked to have heard more from the poster who suggested wiping her hands on this poor woman's coat.

Still, as she was a chav, who cares about her coat.

This.

Loving the 'did you consider?' chopin

Flipped this thread right on it's head !

HaroldLloyd · 18/08/2014 17:46

Well, I don't know Chopin. I think it's a pretty foolhardy suggestion to approach a woman talking aggressively into a phone, interrupt her conversation and suggest to go off for tea.

Its not like she was distressed and crying, she was chatting to a mate.

I asked if you did it because it's easy to throw these wild suggestions around on the internet, not so easy to follow through.

HaroldLloyd · 18/08/2014 17:47

I said that Chopin it was clearly a JOKE.

FFS

Iconfuseus · 18/08/2014 17:50

No I wouldn't have waited at all.

My view is there was no reason for them to be in the toilets. The toilets are for going to the toilet, not a mobile phone conversation booth.

If she was so worried about her daughter not liking the noise she should have got her out of there as soon as she was able.

Gileswithachainsaw · 18/08/2014 17:51

:o

harold

Cup of tea and a baby sitter my arse.

Manners and a dictionary more like

Mrsjayy · 18/08/2014 17:53

I dont think you did anything wrong effing and blinding and basically being intimidating by not moving isnt your fault she is an inconsiderate fool in scotland we call chavs neds I have no problem calling people neds

MrsBoldon · 18/08/2014 17:54

This is MN gold!.

I love the fantasies that people come up with about other peoples lives to excuse their behaviour. Maybe she didn't have money to buy essentials or had been betrayed by someone she loved?!!.

Maybe the OP had dropped her diamond necklace in the toilet and flushed it so was in a rush to get out and call a plumber?. Maybe she was involved in a traumatic wiping wet hands on coat incident in childhood so had to use a hand dryer lest she be reduced to abject hysteria?.

And most people don't need to be 'reduced to swearing' by distress. Lots and lots of people just swear all the time.

slithytove · 18/08/2014 17:54

downmarket fantastic euphemism for chavvy!

I also don't see it as a class thing in terms of working/lower/middle/upper etc.

You can be posh and have a chav name. Or a chav hairstyle. Or chav earrings. Or swear at your kids in chavvy way.

I'm going to be flamed aren't i

pictish · 18/08/2014 17:56

I don't give a hoot about drying my hands on my coat tbh...but I'll not treated like a serf by some wee lassie in the toilets. 'Wait' my backside.

I used to live in a rough arsed area of Edinburgh - six years when ds1 was small. I've encountered this lack of manners a lot - bus stops, the shop, doctor's surgery, chemist, the school.

There aren't the hours in a day. Beat it ya wee radge!

Allsosad · 18/08/2014 17:57

Who made made the daughter cry? Eh eh !!!! You did. Who calls someone a chave ? Someone with no class, that's who! YES the mum shouldn't have swearing, but you made the situation worse and did something that would upset her !

Mrsjayy · 18/08/2014 17:58

I would imagine the op would have been told to go fuck herself if tea and handholding was offered , some people are just rude an intimidating and have no issues btw I work with some disadvataged families they dont behave like this
