I haven't watched this in years.

Good lord. Has there ever been a better - or fitter - bit of casting than this?

Much as I love Richard Armitage in North and South...

Darcy's hair alone has me going weak at the knees though the wine may have something to do with that too

It's ok LavenderHoney I think all women swoon over Darcy Smile. P and P has been my favourite book since my teens and I am a full on Darcy girl. Now, if only I could get DH into breeches Smile. Yes, CF and JE did have a fling during filming. I remember reading that they filmed kind of backwards so have often wondered at which points they were seeing each other, they do have chemistry together. I didn't feel that KK etc did.

No need to google RA ecofreckle just look at the images Spooky posted up thread and my running N and S commentary, guaranteed you will become a fan. Much as I love him, CF is only fanciable as Darcy to me.

OscarWinningActress I always thought that was why dancing etc was so popular, a chance to be unchaperoned and hold a man's gloved hand. Mind you, if you were the lower classes you were pretty defenceless as a woman. So much lust and smoulder in the ballrooms and ladies dampening their skirts to make them translucent and clinging to their legs.

EmilyByrdStarr · 10/08/2014 21:55

I love the picture Thurlow
But have you taught your DD that Darcy is a 'handsome man' yet? Grin

LucasNorthCanSpookMeAnytime · 10/08/2014 22:06

Do I win longest-running crush on CF? It's been 29 years [gasp] wow, had no idea it was that long until I Googled - that's a whole person ago!

LucasNorthCanSpookMeAnytime · 10/08/2014 22:07

I have also met him and he was luz very, though incredibly young and shy at the time.

LucasNorthCanSpookMeAnytime · 10/08/2014 22:08

Luz very? "Was luvverly".

MaudantWit · 10/08/2014 22:09

Spooky, is now really the time and the place to introduce the rest of MN to the number, longevity and sheer scale if your crushes?

::wink::

LucasNorthCanSpookMeAnytime · 10/08/2014 22:10

Maud, I am nothing if not thorough and meticulous.

Thurlow · 10/08/2014 22:11

I'll save that one for tomorrow, Emily Grin

One day I'd like to teach her to say it about Alexander Skarsgard, if he's ever in anything she can watch under 21!

LucasNorthCanSpookMeAnytime · 10/08/2014 22:14

Mind you, even P & P was 19 years ago!! Where did that go?

EmilyByrdStarr · 10/08/2014 22:22

Spooky you have had a crush on CF for nearly as long as I have been alive, so you have beaten me Wink
Very jealous that you have met him in real life though, in breeches?!

Thurlow yes, I like the unspellable (real word?) man too. Where do you stand on Cumberbatch? Ironically I am not keen, but DH has a small man crush Grin. Trying to think of more handsome men, preferably wearing breeches. Always felt they could be a little awkward if feeling lustful of a Regency evening.

ecofreckle · 10/08/2014 22:37

Emily I need to get the tablet really.....am on blasted phone and I can't click on this mystery man you're all swooning over. I will get it and report back.

And Oscar, oh yes. A classic scene. She really is so superb too. I know this is about men in breeches but really, that Jane screams intellect, integrity and girl power and I love her but not as much as Toby dressed up as wee willie winkie

Thurlow · 10/08/2014 22:37

Love Cumberbatch. Saw him in Frankenstein. In breeches. 'Twas awesome Wink

And yet Thurlow you haven't found us a picture!
Yes ecofreckle you must look at all the pictures, but they have left me drooling unattractively Grin
Wonder if DT is in tights on the Internet anywhere?

januaryjan · 10/08/2014 22:49

One of the best scenes in Jane Eyre with Toby Stephens has to be the 'there is no debt' scene ...after she saves him from the fire in his room and when he tells her to go to bed and he doesn't want her leave the room and he wraps the coat around her etc....

Sweet Sacramento the man is hot!!!!

EmilyByrdStarr · 10/08/2014 22:51

In a bow tie, will it do?

emotionsecho · 10/08/2014 23:09

You all have such a lovely turn of phrase, I'm loving the "strip knickers off a nun" and "lustful of a Regency evening", absolute gems I'm going to have to shoehorn them in somewhere in everyday conversation.

Eco one of the other scenes in Jane Eyre I love is when Jane covers for Rochester when his hand is dripping blood, and then gets dressed because she instinctively knows to go up to the North Tower with him. Likewise I love that scene where she saves him from the fire, the sexual tension and chemistry and his utter sexiness just cascades from the screen.

I too love Ruth Wilson as Jane Eyre in that, there is a dimension to her character, a quiet intelligence that she portrays so well.

There are some sizzlingly hot picures of the unsurpassable Richard Armitage on Youtube, drooling doesn't come close, that man is something else.

My household budget for this month is depleting rapidly as I am poised to purchase series 1-3 of Robin Hood purely to compare him in that and North and South you understand.Grin

januaryjan · 10/08/2014 23:16

Cumberbatch looked pretty good in Star Trek as the baddie.

Good actor. Like him in Sherlock.

EmilyByrdStarr · 10/08/2014 23:27

I love the knickers off a nun comment too, spluttered and giggled whilst reading it.
I tried to look up RA as Robin Hood and twice I got a series of photos and my ipad crashed! Grin Even machinery is not immune!
Get on Netflix emotions and then you can watch N and S as well as lots of Austen adaptations.
Personally I need to buy or download Jane Eyre, I love the book but haven't seen the adaptation for ages, I feel I am missing out.

LucasNorthCanSpookMeAnytime · 10/08/2014 23:29

Emily, you have just made me feel very, very old :o I luffs DT too! We could be twins (well, twins born at least 15 years apart, by the sounds of it!) I met CF very briefly 17 years ago. It was under the guise of work (I used to be a luvvie, pre-children) but it was blatant crush-chasing :)

Emotions, S1 & 2 of Robin Hood are vintage RA but I'm not so fond of his S3 Timotei look. The DCs have a card game that they love and one card, the Black Knight, is known as Gizzy In this house. It's a new rule of the game that this card has to be instantly surrendered to me :) "Here you are Mummy, you can have Gizzy" is frequently heard.

EmilyByrdStarr · 10/08/2014 23:36

Sorry Spooky not my intention. I like the idea of having a mumsnet twin Smile
Night all, early start in the morning and was up far too late lusting over CF and RA last night.
Hoping not to kill the thread as rather enjoying it!

emotionsecho · 10/08/2014 23:37

Just checking if this works

Colin Firth as Mr Darcy
emotionsecho · 10/08/2014 23:57

Emily unfortunately Netflix not an option at the moment, has to be dvds. Fortunately, the CF P&P converted my dh into a lover of period dramas so no problem buying or watching them. Selling Robin Hood as an excuse for me to drool over RA might be a tad trickier tho'Grin

emotionsecho · 11/08/2014 00:01

Lucas love it Grin

emotionsecho · 11/08/2014 00:10

Looks ok to me here

You've all seen this, right?

I just came across it, inspired by this thread, and I love it...
