In schools, local communities, pro ISIS demonstrations etc. with Muslim leaders remaining silent.

Is this something new or was it always there right under the surface?

Have we been to tolerant to people who openly reject our values and want to overthrow our society?

cote are Hamas not being warned where the missiles are going to strike? I was under the impression Hamas were urging people to stay where the are.

CoteDAzur · 07/08/2014 10:47

That is a wrong impression. Do you really think parents wouldn't whisk their children off to safety if they knew the school would explode?

And if that school had to be bombed, can you think of a reason why it wasn't bombed during the night when there would be no children in it? I asked this before but, surprisingly, nobody offered an answer.

DownByTheRiverside · 07/08/2014 10:52

'Down: If the majority (as you claim) is letting the actions of a tiny, tiny minority make them want to force Muslims to leave the country, it says more about the stupidity and sheep tendencies if that majority then it does about Muslims.

I completely agree, and I'm sorry if you thought that I was saying it was in any way justified or logical. But historically, that's how many persecutions of minorities begin, and why it is so difficult to stop once it has started. Because of the stupidity, the propoganda and the manipulation of the fears of others.

How peculiar to lump halal meat in with FGM and ISIS. Do you feel so strongly about Kosher meat? '

Again, I haven't explained myself clearly, for which I apologise.

FGM is an abomination that should be prevented. There is no justification possible for it. Isis are carrying out atrocities in Syria and Iraq and the fact that some of the members are seen as 'home-grown British terrorists' is also made a point of in reports.
Boko Haram and their acts of terrorism in West Africa.

The routine use of halal meat in restaurants and school meals has recently hit the press, even though it has been going on for a while. I don't have a problem with halal or kosher.
Likewise all the arguments about covering with burkha/niqab etc.

All these things are frequently seen by the 'sheep tendencies' as expressions of Islam. Which is how xenophobia, paranoia and fear grow.
Throughout history, that sort of response has usually ended very badly for all concerned, the persecuted minority and for the persecuters who move further away from civilised behaviour and humane actions.
I worry about my society becoming actively more intolerant, more suspicious and more divided.

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 07/08/2014 11:06

Are Hamas goverment relaying that information back to the pubic?

Israel are obviously wanting to cause maximum impact bombing the school during the day with or with out warning.

CoteDAzur · 07/08/2014 11:12

Gosh - Indeed. I bet you never thought you'd see me (appearing as) defending Islam on MN. Watch out for flying pigs next Grin

More seriously, I have nothing against criticizing religion but criticism can't be done coming from a base of near-perfect ignorance. No problem at all talking about the absurdity of dressing up like desert-dwellers of 1400 years ago or adopting their morals in metropolitan Europe in the year 2014, or the absurdity of otherwise reasonable adults believing in immaculate conception, virgin birth, or transubstantiation.

However, goady fuckwittery based on nothing but DM propaganda and racist bigotry is not ok.

Greengrow · 07/08/2014 11:14

We can probably all agree that it is mostly men who are doing all this and women who suffer the sexism of religion and curbing of their lives by male violence. So one solution might be ensure women control most positions of power on the planet whether in muslim states, Israel or the UK.

Why was my last message deleted?
I asked you cote a simple question as I'm

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 07/08/2014 14:38

Neither side. A genuine wuesti

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 07/08/2014 14:44

Crappy iPhone!

I asked cote a genuine question. I'm on neither side yet she replied with the bollocks she posted above WTF?!

There was no fight from me yet she went on attack for no reason what so ever. Check my other posts out, why the fuck was her response warranted ?

Oh and is idiot not allowed now? But every fucking swear word is??? Strange .

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 07/08/2014 14:59

Oh and I'm not you people . You need to get out of the them and us shit

CoteDAzur · 07/08/2014 16:33

I answered your "genuine question", Softly.

Your posts about Israel telling Palestinians where it will strike & Hamas telling them to stay put, and use of the euphemism "maximum impact" when you apparently want to say "deliberately kill maximum number of children" sounded like you were at the very least taken in by Israeli propaganda, and possibly were even defending their actions. If I was wrong about that, you could have easily said "No, I'm not defending the bombing of schools" and that would have been clear.

Instead, you flew into a foul-mouthed hissy fit.

DikTrom · 07/08/2014 16:51

Today's Volkskrant (reputable Dutch newspaper) reports that there have been searches in four houses in the Hague on request of the Belgian authorities looking for a Jihadist terror cell.

Two were arrested at airport Zaventem and charged with being part of a terror cell, unlawful possession of weapons and financing terrorism.

More weapons, bullet proof clothing and Jihadist material has been found.

Maybe now you understand where I am coming from. This is about daily news in the Netherlands. Nothing to do with Geert Wilders. We don't need Geert Wilders, just factual reports about what is happening on literally our doorstep.

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 07/08/2014 17:03

Foul mouth hissy fit? I've heard worse on here.

Maximum impact to me is doing as much damage as they can - which they do! Do I now have to PM you with my messages to see if they suit your taste or if you can twist them in to something that isn't there before I post.

You were bang out of order for what you posted about me.

Why should I respond politely to you after you accuse me of supporting bombing schools? Where the fuck did I put in that post? No where.

Your barking up the wrong tree love. Get a grip.

GoshAnneGorilla · 07/08/2014 17:07

Yes, criminals have been caught doing criminal things. What are you hoping to happen now?

Have Muslims rounded up in a mass pogrom? Deport all Muslims from the country? Force them all to march through the length of the country with "I'm sorry" placards?

No. I reject that Muslims should face collective responsibility, or collective punishment. We would not accept this for any other group in society, so why should Muslims be singled out for such treatment?

"We don't need Geert Wilders". I agree, he's a racist bigot, but he's having a dangerous impact on the country. It was very interesting to read about the #BornHere campaign. www.wagingnonviolence.org/feature/resistance-racism-intensifies-netherlands/

CoteDAzur · 07/08/2014 17:18

Softly - You need to calm down and find that grip you are referring to.

It is not my taste your posts need to comply with but MN's Talk Guidelines.

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 07/08/2014 17:32

What? me believing that you are an idiot because you blew my post waaay out of context and got on your soap box.

You were looking for a fight when there wasn't one there. I am calm, your bizarre post to me at 11:23 suggests your anything but. Maybe you need to think about other peoples posts before you jump down their throats.

CoteDAzur · 07/08/2014 17:39

Alternatively, don't calm down Hmm

I'm done talking about your grievances. Feel free to come back to the thread topic at any time.

Montegomongoose · 07/08/2014 18:16

DikTrom I attended a dinner in Belgium recently with Flemish, Dutch, Lebanese, Swedish and Indian friends.

The rise of Islamist extremism as well as the rise of the far right across previously very liberal countries was one of the main topics we discussed.

As well as being pleased we could all sit round a table together after thirty years of friendship and peacefully exchange different opinions.

Nobody was reduced to the sort of fearful haranguing I see all too often on this forum on both sides of the debate.

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 07/08/2014 18:16

Ah bless you cote you don't have to invite me back, already here. It's a a public forum you see. I don't need invites of you, thanks anyway though.

I'm not going to engage with you anymore as your totally baffling me why you have taken such a turn on me for using 'maximum impact' it's really strange.

Maybe you were having a bad day.

DikTrom · 07/08/2014 18:23

To me it seems pretty clear that Islamic extremism is indeed on the rise in Britain and the rest of Europe.

Unfortunately, many of you like to bury your heads in the sand. Not clever and quite dangerous.

Not helping anybody. I would say, if there is a big and potentially very dangerous issue, then tackle it head on, don't bury your head in the sand.

I haven't heard of Jewish terror cells in The Hague, I haven't heard of Christian terror cells in the Hague either.

OP posts:
Greengrow · 07/08/2014 18:25

We can probably agree there is far too much killing on the planet (although actually there is less violence than there was - and removing lead from petrol has been the biggest cause in the reduction). London streets were much more violent in the 1800s than they are today so perhaps things are getting better not worse but it is simply that we have more access to news these days.

We can certainly all start at home by encouraging our children to be peaceful, to turn the other cheek, to be kind, to learn not to lose their tempers, to try not to find fault in others, to say 5 positive things for every 4. I hope I seek to achieve that on a daily basis. Teach them that eyes for eyes lead to feuds which last decades and that just because someone is male does not mean they need to use violence to solve problems.

Softlysoftlycatchymonkey · 07/08/2014 18:31

diktrom what would you do about it? What actions would you like to take?

lauriebear · 07/08/2014 18:34

I think that the documentary "the power of nightmares" easily findable on youtube really explains the rise of any kind of extremism (or the publicising/hyperbole thereof) OP.
