Peeing with the door open

My husband thinks it is weird. I don't see a problem with it- especially considering I wee about 800 times a day, and the cat meows every time the bathroom door is closed! Who is being unreasonable??

I think it depends where the loo is tbh.

If you are downstairs and everyone can see you in all your glory then YABa bit U. If you are upstairs and not on a "through route" as it were :o then YANBU. I can pee super quick, in and out including hand washing in the time it takes him to shut the door!

hamptoncourt · 24/07/2014 20:00

YABU

I shut the door even if I am home by myself Grin

GodDamnBatman · 24/07/2014 20:02

I keep it open so I can keep an open ear for DD. But if DH is home, I mostly close it.

I don't close the door at night because the mirror freaks me out. GrinBlush

grumpasaur · 24/07/2014 20:03

Ah- interesting! Well our flat is quite long with a hallway that faces directly onto the open door of the loo- so he probably has a pretty good view if he is loving from room to room!

Dammit! I hate it when he (might be!) right! I was hoping everyone would come on and say everyone did it...

We pee in front of each other - and the cat usually wanders in too. Door firmly shut for poos tho!

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 24/07/2014 20:05

loving from room to room?

no wonder you pee 800 times a day, you prob have cystitis Grin

grumpasaur · 24/07/2014 20:06

Definitely SHUT for poos!! I guess I just don't see the big deal... My husband however thinks it is 'odd', so I guess it won't kill me to start closing the door.

The most important tenant in the house (cat!) won't be too happy though!

ooh! Loving from room to room! I remember that! Blush

grumpasaur · 24/07/2014 20:07

Shakeyourtailfeathers- if only! DH is a bedroom (and if the blinds are shut and windows are closed and he can't hear anyone outside or downstairs), maybe couch kinda guy!

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 24/07/2014 20:07

I wee with the door open. DH prefers to close it.

Closed door for poos and if I have my period

Purplepoodle · 24/07/2014 20:11

Our toilet is upstairs but it's on,y me and the kids mainly so door stays open or one of said children volley it open

Yama · 24/07/2014 20:12

It was dh who taught me that peeing with the door open is fine. We are all family.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 24/07/2014 20:15

Grin at 'only if he can't hear anybody'

CarmineRose1978 · 24/07/2014 20:19

We pee in front of each other. Well, we leave the bathroom door open anyway. Probably wouldn't actually go in and watch though.

Bogeyface · 24/07/2014 20:39

Aww loving from room-to-room.....those were the days [wistful sigh] :o

marne2 · 24/07/2014 20:45

Doors are rarely shut in our house, I often have one of the dd's talking to me when I'm on the loo or the cat sat by my feet. I don't see a problem with it, I do like to do a no2 in private though.

grumpasaur · 24/07/2014 20:47

Seems a relatively fair split between door open and door closed...

Looks like the thread should have been about the days of loving from room to room.

I miss those days- I just don't understand my DH and his pearl clutching ways...

sillybillies · 24/07/2014 21:11

only shut for poos. Definitely don't close the downstairs loo unless we have guests as I once got trapped inside as a spider ran down from the ceiling and sat on the bolt whilst I was on the loo. I was stuck inside for what seemed like an eternity (probably more like 5 minutes). I'm not particularly keen on spiders and I was only 11 or 12, but I prefer not to bolt the door now just in case!

diddl · 24/07/2014 21:20

Can you just push the someway closed so that husband can't see in & cat can still get in?

Electriclaundryland · 24/07/2014 21:22

We have open doors for everything in our house, no shame at all.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 24/07/2014 21:28

If he doesn't want to see you on the loo I think you should respect that, even if you don't see the big deal.
I would never want to watch a partner pee if I could help it.

shouldbeelsewhere · 24/07/2014 21:32

I live alone and I'm a wheelchair user so my bathroom door is permanently open and pushed as far back as possible. It's easier. But I was well squicked out that the guy fixing my washing machine asked if he could use my loo and then didn't shut the door. It was suggested when I bitched to a family member that he probably didn't realise there was a door but... it's there, it's obvious it's there it's just open

Sapat · 24/07/2014 21:33

Door pushed but not shut for me, though closed for number 2s though kids usually open it to see what I am up to. Drives OH crazy, he locks himself in, even at night in our en-suite, which really annoys him. Does he honestly think I have nothing better to do than barge in? We have been together almost 20 years, I can cope with the separation of 2 minutes.

TheRealAmandaClarke · 24/07/2014 21:34

YANBU. I even do it in public sometimes to keep an eye on the DCs. Blush

Haroldplaystheharmonica · 24/07/2014 21:35

Wee with the door open, poo when someone needs a shower - we literally don't give a shot in our house! Yes, not what I'd ask for but needs must!
