to hate this weather?

Hate going out in it - am too hot, irritable and sweat is pouring within seconds.

Trying to do what shopping I need to first thing - not easy with 2 under 18 months - then staying indoors for the rest of the day.

So depressing.

I am one of those crazy people that think summer should be hot, not just a little warmer than winter.

Staryyeyedsurprise · 24/07/2014 13:22

Of course I know wearing tights in the summer will make me hot. But I can't ditch the tights without buying an entirely new wardrobe. I have about 3 dresses which can pass for "work attire" without tights - one of which I'm wearing today. The rest are very obviously "at home" dresses.

This is what happend when we're ony used to 2 weeks of sunshine a year - normally my wardrobe is fine. Grrrrr.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/07/2014 13:25

If I wanted this sort of weather I'd live in the Med. England is meant to be temperate.

Runningforfun · 24/07/2014 13:26

I really get going in this weather. I have 1/2 cleared out the garage, hung the washing out, done the washing up and done all my hand washing which is draped over various items in the garden. This afternoon I plan to finish emptying garage, take stuff to the tip, take stuff to the storage unit, then put several things on ebay and go for a run..

Role on summer. In winter I freeze. I have to wear my coat all the time at home whilst huddled in front of a radiator.

Billingsgatedoxy · 24/07/2014 13:28

I hate it. It makes me feel sick and dizzy and the kids are sleeping badly and fractious. Roll on Autumn.

I work outside and the last three days have been hell! Sunscreen, hat, sleeves so protected from sun but sweaty, sticky and covered in bastard flies. Have come home utterly exhausted. Hay fever has been appalling too.

Bring on autumn, cool thoughts to you all!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/07/2014 13:35

It completely saps my energy, I sleep badly, I feel grumpy all day, I'd far rather be a bit cold than hot and sweaty.

popcornpaws · 24/07/2014 13:40

I've said it before, i hate the summer for most of the reasons all the above have posted.
Have taken to having very cool baths and just floating in them for ages, cools you right down and you don't feel hot when you come out.
Don't cook either, I work from 6pm-10pm some days and used to get the rage when cooking as it wasted all my staying cool tactics i had done all day.
I now have a microwave meal and my family make their own when i leave.

I love it!

You just need to dress and do things adapted to summer

I'm currently outside in Hyde park. With ds's age 3 and 4, and nephews (twins) 6 months. We are all on x2 large blankets in the shade. Ds 4 is drawing/ flicking through magazines, ds 3 is asleep on blanket with his teddy, and both babies are asleep in carrycot on pram in shade. I'm on laptop sorting work emails/ wasting time on here.

We will stay in shade until 3pm at least and all rest/ read/ play quietly ( have plenty of pens/ paper/ small diggers here), and then we will go to a museum with air con later, maybe to playpark later but after 6pm

Also wear 100% cotton or linen in this weather. A long sleeve linen top will keep far cooler than polyester vest top.

Mainly stay walking/ playing/ outdoors in sun before 11am and after 4pm. Otherwise stay in shade

I love these relaxing warm days and have lovely memories of doing it each year with the children.

onedogatoddlerandababy · 24/07/2014 13:46

YANBU!

Roll on cooler weather, it's 26-28 degrees upstairs in my house in the evenings...it's too much

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/07/2014 13:46

I wear cotton/linen all year round, makes no difference, I'm still too hot. I wouldn't mind if I was just sitting in the shade but haven't got time for that.

Lauren83 · 24/07/2014 13:51

Coumarin

Thankyou! 5 times bloody hell, I'm on number 3 now, I hope number 5 was sucessful?

Lauren83 · 24/07/2014 13:51

And I have a water spray but didn't think of putting it in the fridge so thanks!

Me too. I'm currently wearing a linen dress but stuck in front of a computer that feels as if it's throwing out air directly heated by the sun. Plus I am in a tiny room in a building which is supposedly climate-controlled and as a result has no windows I can open and no breeze.

I do enjoy sitting in the garden from about 6pm. I'm sure my husband and children are having fun today. It's just the day to day stuff which makes me all grouchy.

WanderingTrolley1 · 24/07/2014 14:07

Makes a refreshing change to see I'm not alone...

I don't much like the heat either. I can just about handle hot daytime temperatures, but when it is hot and muggy at night I am truly miserable. ,

MagicMojito · 24/07/2014 14:14

Hate it, hate it, hate it!

SinglePringle · 24/07/2014 14:22

I absolutely love it. More. Now. Again. Please?!

Want it to last till the middle of September at least.

MagicMojito · 24/07/2014 14:28

..although its a good excuse to eat dangerous amounts of ice cream Grin

squatcher · 24/07/2014 14:29

YABU! I love it - and we so rarely get sunny, hot weather I want to make the most of it.

But I would probably hate it if I was still commuting into London. Train and tube in warm weather is unbearable and too many people get smelly.

I work from home so the only downside to this weather is the bucketloads of willpower it takes me to stay sat at my computer instead of sitting in the garden.

Xmasbaby11 · 24/07/2014 14:30

I hate it. Total sweatfest.

confusedgirlfromtheShire · 24/07/2014 14:31

It is bloody horrible. I am 8 months pregnant, my boobs are sticking to my belly which is sticking to my legs which are sticking to the chair. Nothing cools me down. I am grumpy as fuck today. Roll on Autumn.

I have a theory that your favourite season is the one you were born in. I was a midwinter baby and never really liked the temperature to be over about 75 degrees.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 24/07/2014 14:32

That makes sense, I'm a winter baby and much prefer it to this weather. I wouldn't mind if I was on holiday, but work and housework in this are no fun at all, and can't even get any respite late at night.

dawndonnaagain · 24/07/2014 14:35

I love it, but I am of Spanish descent.
Suggestions:
Wear a hat.
Keep a bottle of water in the freezer overnight, it's still cold by lunchtime.
Keep a pack of babywipes in the fridge, they're wonderfully cooling, use on the back of the neck and on wrists for maximum cooling.
Lollies are better than ice cream, particularly if you can make your own overnight. (Less fat and sugar so not as sickly).
Boots sell a cooling water spray in a tin. Useful when out and about.
