Jesus Christ this mother on Child Genius, AIBU to think it's so ironic?

Putting aside the fact she has in all seriousness pointed out how she is far more intelligent than her daughter who can only operate in an intelligent manner due to her parenting.

Is it just me who thinks it extremely a tad ironic that she is a psychologist, yet seems to lack the insight or understanding as to how her comments may affect her child or appear to others. Also surely being so informed and intelligent, she knows that yes you can parent without a detail understanding of neurolinguistic programming?

I decided not to watch as I would have got all ranty at the parents and felt sorry for the children.
I was just thinking earlier, after the ad for this show was on, whatever happened to Ruth Lawrence? I always felt sorry for her too, and wonder if she's happy now wherever she is, and hopefully out from under the control of her father.
How many of those children will leave home as soon as ever they can and run and never look back I wonder?

Last I heard Ruth Lawernce went to Isreal, married, had a baby, and didn't have much to do with her dad.

I'm watching and I think some if these parents are going too far and putting the kids under too much pressure.

Ohhh I remember her now. Forgettable name so I couldn't place her. Didn't they base the character in Luther on her?

I'm going to make my DC watch this. They can appreciate my benign neglect.

Feel sorry for her daughter. They even said they feel taken for granted and that their daughter doesn't appreciate all their amazing parenting. Shocking!! Poor kids.

OMG that's who she is! Poor Leonard had it easy, he isn't even real.

The parents who home school the little girl Jocelyn seem lovely, they were so proud her 2 points, they looked so pleased with her compared to some of the other parents.

I am impressed by some of these children but I do believe it is unnecessary to push them this much.

My DS1 is very bright but we have never done any additional work with him as never seen the need for it, sometimes I feel it means we are letting him down a bit but when I watch programmes like this I think we are doing the right thing, BTW I am not suggesting he is in the same league as the children on this programme at all!

The similarities are uncanny. Psychologist, so sure of her own superiority and she even looks like her!

Although the more I see of Jocelyn I am slowly changing my mind about her parents. Maybe too much the other way!

Although Ruth Lawrence seemed to cut contact with her family, she is a professor of mathematics and a very high achiever in her own right. I am not sure whether this would have happened if her father hadn't been so pushy, perhaps it would have done and certainly she must have driven it herself once at uni and beyond- but equally immersing herself in this world did help develop her considerable intellect, it's very complicated really.

I don't think Ruth Lawrence got as much out of university as a 'normal' aged student would have done. She had her father in tow all the time, was considerably younger than the other students, she could hardly indulge in the normal social activities of a student. So she had a degree by the age of 13- but how many friends???

I watched the first series and found all the parents to be unbearable twats who were ruining their children's childhoods.

Jocalyn is clearly going to fail to function in the real world.

I think I just dislike seeing children have no choice in the matter. A child who is so young, needs to be a child - by all means let them read and read, and access as much information as they want in books, and supervised internet access, give them telescopes and microscopes and chemistry sets and journals to keep and anything else like that, but keep it as fun/lighthearted while they are young. I just don't see why they need to be pushed all the time
They will be bright all their lives, and have plenty of time to study/research/learn and all that, when they've grown up emotionally, at least into their teens.
Some of these children just seem to be trophies almost, like a "oo look what WE made" and everyone tells them what they're expected to "do for the world" and how they can "be of use to society" but nobody seems to care if they are happy and stable and feel loved or have friends

They called their son... Tudor? Surely the only way is up after that?
