AIBU?

Jesus Christ this mother on Child Genius, AIBU to think it's so ironic?

Putting aside the fact she has in all seriousness pointed out how she is far more intelligent than her daughter who can only operate in an intelligent manner due to her parenting.

Is it just me who thinks it extremely a tad ironic that she is a psychologist, yet seems to lack the insight or understanding as to how her comments may affect her child or appear to others. Also surely being so informed and intelligent, she knows that yes you can parent without a detail understanding of neurolinguistic programming?

Tudor's parents are terrible, I feel so sorry for those kids. They're going to have issues later on in life.

And a 'training programme'? Which child needs a bloody training programme. Idiots.

I think Aliyah is going to rebel in a big way in a few years time! Her parents were awful imo.

Totally agree re Jocelyn, she could have real problems coping in the real world but at least they are not nasty vile people like some of the others.

I think Jocelyn will be fine - I have lots of friends that have that kind of personality. They've got jobs etc.

The parents reaction to Tudor and Hazelle getting through was really shocking though. And they are really set against each other - I hope they realize that they can be a team vs their parents crazy expectations as they get older.

There was a boy on the last series who was at DS3's school, 2 or 3 years below.

DS said he was one of the most unpopular kids in the school Sad.

I am not sure about Jocelyn, my DS2 didn't really fancy school after the first day but I made him go back of course!

Oops posted too soon, surely she will need to learn how to function in a more formal environment at some point?

Jocelyn and her parents seemed the only normal, sane people there!! Still shocked at the others and especially the awful psychologist couple - how on earth can they think that level of stress and pressure is ok for a child Shock

Watched the last series too - found it really interesting and loved the little girl who won it last time.

Must watch this on catch up.

I am watching this now in plus1. Ailayah is really just a massive ego project for her mother really isnt she? "Look how great i am i have created this genius child, all credit to me of course because she isnt intelligent enough in her own right to achieve, it's all my doing"

Vile.

I can't see how Jocelyn who clearly is allowed to do what she likes when she likes and can't sit and learn for five minutes in a learning environment (or even tolerate a morning of school) will be able to hold down a job or go to uni (if she decides to). You can't just turn up to work when you feel like it.

Poor kids. The parents of Alayiah are two of the neediest people I've ever seen. Imagine raising your daughter in that kind of manner (borderline abusive, I believe), and whining about gratitude. And it hardly takes a psychologist to see the insecurity behind the "trust me, I'm a doctor" tshirt. Pathetic.

Jocelyn I feel sorry for. At some point she will need to learn how to apply herself. She is a lovely little girl but it will be a disadvantage to her if she never learns how to discipline herself.

I like Rubiyats dad trying to help him make social connections as well as being a maths genius

Yes rubiyats dad did seems quite aware, and more importantly, concerned that rubiyat wasnt making friends.

I cannot believe the parents! They ought to feel ashamed of themselves. The little boy who got full marks - he seems to have a talent without crazy parents but aliyah and Tudor is a different ball game altogether. "Psychologists" I have no words!

Is there perhaps a chance that what you are all watching is the result of hundreds of hours of footage which have been carefully edited to give an OUTRAGEOUS narrative designed to provoke VERY STRONG REACTIONS in the viewer?

The psychologist lady had a horrific childhood at the mercy of a crack addicted mother and a paedophile ring... No wonder she is so needy.

Aliyah's parents are beyond parody.

An acquaintance of mine was on this programme last year. She said that they cut the film so it made her look like a really pushy parent. In reality she isn't. A lot of it is made to look that way for publicity I guess.

"Their legs are a little bit stubby" Hmm

So basically, "you havent really got the natural ability but we'll (mum and dad) work extra hard to get you up to scratch. So be grateful"

No doubt that is what's happened, but the psychologist woman was not forced to say those things, for example. She seemed to believe it it was admirable.
