To be shocked at what I saw at a Toby Carvery?

I went to a Toby Carvery the other day. I had two types of meat, a Yorkshire pudding, veg and gravy. I had a good sized portion, ate it all and didn't feel the need to go up again. I'm quite smug that I know how much to put on my plate without wasting it.

However, I could see the gravy/sauce table from where I was sitting and saw a few very overweight young people, late teens/early 20's with 3 - yes 3 Yorkshire puddings on their plates, a mound of veg and ladling on bucketfuls of gravy.

Surely this is not normal and they were just greedy.

Well, thats how people are at all you can eat places.
Its "all you can eat" after all. not "all you should eat". Grin

MrsMikeDelfino · 20/07/2014 11:51

Damn. I want a carvery now. Envy

gordyslovesheep · 20/07/2014 11:51

YANBU - fat people should not have the temerity to eat in public - anyone over a size 10 shouldn't leave the house really Hmm

of course YABU - you went to a Toby Carvery for starters

Phoenix2014 · 20/07/2014 11:51

You went to a cheap "all you can eat" place and were shocked by what??? People loading up their plates with all they could eat?
What would you have preferred to see? Beautiful skinny people daintily placing single carrots onto their plates?
Bored.

PipkinsPal · 20/07/2014 11:52

Not a wind up and not posted in the right category either.

Perhaps I was a bit miffed that I had the standard one Yorkshire pudding per person.

*Merdealor" If you think it's pointless, why bother commenting?

Pipkins, go and sit in the middle of a MacDonalds next and eat a salad - you'll be in superiority complex heaven! Grin

I also want to know what Toby Carvery allows more than one Yorkshire Pudding.

Ours only allows one.

I'll drop down to Vegeterian (usually Vegan) to be able to eat out, on the special occasions of others, so have ended up in a Toby.

They won't let me have more than one, even though I'm happy to forgo gravy etc.

My DD is a size 6 and struggles to carry her plate back to the table. She doesn't always eat properly daily, though.

I eat more than I would normally when I go out because of the novelty of having food made for me, I'm a LP.

They are just getting their money's worth.

I would go out as little as possible seeing as you are so easily shocked.

Mylovelylovelyhorse · 20/07/2014 11:53

Meh. Yorkshire puds are mostly air anyway

Rainicorn · 20/07/2014 11:54

What a disappointing thread thought you'd be saying that someone buried their head deep into the mash and blurted, or that another person used their fill your own pop glass with gravy Sad

Oh and YABU. Maybe they were suffering from a Yorkshire pudding deficiency or were gravy junkies. So judgy!

HairOnMyChinnyChinChin · 20/07/2014 11:55

One yorkie per person is not the norm Shock

Birdsgottafly · 20/07/2014 11:55

""Perhaps I was a bit miffed that I had the standard one Yorkshire pudding per person. ""

Sometimes if it's the "change over" they give out the food that is left.

I'm miffed on your behalf (and mine).

JeanSeberg · 20/07/2014 11:56

Another one here in support of Toby. Definitely can't get 3 YPs though.

PipkinsPal · 20/07/2014 11:56

Yes, come to think of it the Yorkshire puddings were on huge plates.

With all the government guff about tackling obesity, people don't really care about their future health.

Perhaps the Daily Mail would be interested in your astounding discovery. You could do a sad face next to the gravy table with a perfectly portioned plate.

Ha ha Grin

SomeSortOfDeliciousBiscuit · 20/07/2014 11:56

Bravo, OP, for being the best person in that Toby Carvery. You are so very superior to everyone else.

Is that what you wanted to hear?

Zucker · 20/07/2014 11:57

Oh I want to go there now and get a trough of gravy and swim in it. Gravy and mash will cure this hangover.

PipkinsPal · 20/07/2014 11:57

pictish so you wouldn't have to read the article, my house is worth £100,000.

My 'carvery' tends to consist of a little bit of meat, peas, a yorkshire, gravy and as many roast potatoes as I can manage Grin

Nothing compares to carvery roast potatoes Grin

MissDuke · 20/07/2014 11:58

Is Toby Carvery self service? (We don't have it here in NI).

We were on hols for a few days last week and the hotel brekkie was the usual buffet. I normally have a bowl of porridge, but of course faced with the buffet I had scrambled egg, mushrooms, tomatoes, beans, toast, bread rolls, umm think that was it [grins] It was ridiculous and greedy and filled me up all day until dinner at 6pm, and it was a walking holiday so hopefully burned a bit of it off. At the end of the day, it was 3 days out of the year. Perhaps those teens don't eat out all the time?

LEMmingaround · 20/07/2014 11:58

Those places have tiny plates -FACT

Birdsgottafly · 20/07/2014 11:58

""One yorkie per person is not the norm"" !!!

You mean some of us are having our right to extra Yorkshire a puddings denied?!!!!

This is worth going to the tabloids about, complete with sad face picture.

Skina · 20/07/2014 11:58

YABU for even setting foot in one.
