to let my cat sleep on my bed?

I've always done so, since a child (different cats obviously) but a friend of mine, who hates pets, said it's unhygienic. I suppose it is in a way, although I know cats like to clean themselves a lot.

I know it's hardly a study, but I rarely get ill, whereas my friend who's critical of me is constantly complaining of colds/coughs.

Aibu and unhygienic to let my cat sleep on my bed?

Monteray Yes, they don't do "subtle", do they? Their little heads are SO hard when they headbonk you! Grin

He sounds totally yummy (and I think Beautifully would love him!)

In fact, my old cat (who was part Burmese) used to have a variation on the patting for attention - he would stick his claw in my eye to wake me up!

My Burmese decided that the indoor life wasn't for them, and it was easier to just give in. The local bird population has been decimated, and the remaining ones spend their days screeching on high alert. We are currently getting at least 2 birds a day. It is like living in a war zone.

Beryl And it is ALWAYS easier to give in to a Burmese, even if it doesn't help the local feathered population! Grin

Sounds like I'm going to have my hands full with a Burmese. I can't help but think 'bring it on' Grin

Although I don't like the idea of killing birdies and all that mess and blood.
Are you not meant to keep them as indoor cats, being so special and all that.....

It makes me laugh how they are all different
Black cat - waits to be asked, jumps up, sleeps tidily at the foot of the bed

Birman - yowls pitifully, climbs under duvet, forces you to cling to the edge of the bed. Gets lost under duvet and fights way out. Eventually you wake up realising you can't breathe because birman has one paw over your mouth and the other over your nose. Attempt to move cat. Reconsider. Contemplate whether death by claw mutilation or death by lack of oxygen is preferable. Cat decides it's time to wake up, yowls and jumps out of bed, sticking claw up your nose at the same time

We never encouraged our cat to sleep on the beds but she did her own thing, as they do.

I didn't generally mind but once on a cold night she got under the duvet and terrified me by slinking up my body. I thought (in my sleep induced state) that she was a rat or something.

NB - we have never had a rat problem and I have no idea why I thought this!

We let all our cats sleep on our bed at times, barely room for us!

It's your bed, your friends opinion is irrelevant.
