to let my cat sleep on my bed?

I've always done so, since a child (different cats obviously) but a friend of mine, who hates pets, said it's unhygienic. I suppose it is in a way, although I know cats like to clean themselves a lot.

I know it's hardly a study, but I rarely get ill, whereas my friend who's critical of me is constantly complaining of colds/coughs.

Aibu and unhygienic to let my cat sleep on my bed?

In fact, I have the house to myself and gonna have an afternoon snooze with my girls. Love it.

MackerelOfFact · 19/07/2014 14:30

I agree. And the cat fur bugs me. Unfortunately CatOfFact thinks IABU.

I have four cats. They usually come to bed with me for cuddles, and then go and sleep elsewhere (usually on top of the wardrobe). They then come back in the morning just before my alarm goes off for more cuddles. There is nothing lovelier than being curled up with a purring cat.

mackerel

Black cat fur on white bedding. Ooh you are so brave. I have OCD so changed my bedding to chocolate brown. Even better without my glasses I can see no cat fur at all blind as a bat Grin

I love a midnight cuddle with the cats

Mine sleeps under the duvet with his head on a pillow. In between DH and I. Grin He would get in anyway no matter what I told him. When he sees me get ready for bed, he joins me.

He watches DH go...but never goes till I do...then he slides in, snuggles down and snores. He's more than welcome. He's not dirty....he stands on the edge of his litter tray and his bottom is always clean.

OTheHugeManatee · 19/07/2014 15:16

One of ours does, the other is too nocturnal. The one that does sleep on the bed only does it when the weather is cold. If you move your legs away she'll just resettle back against them. Her favourite thing is if you're face down in starfish position, so she can arrange herself in the V if your legs with a heater on two sides. And there's the 3am treadling, let us not speak of the 3am treadling

Thanks, Gemma! He is pretty cute, though I say so myself Smile

What is sweeter on a cold winter's night than a heap of purring cats nestled next to you? My big boy claims the prime spot right next to me and the rest of the herd arranges themselves around him. I have awoken more than once thinking I was having difficulty breathing, only to find a feline snuggled into my chest.

SecretWitch · 19/07/2014 15:45

MostPeople, what exactly is your address? I wish to commit a catnapping..

MostPeopleAreMad · 19/07/2014 15:49

Secret Hahahaha! That would be telling... Wink He is rather lovely, though, isn't he? Glad you like him Smile

SecretWitch · 19/07/2014 15:59

MostPeople, I figured as much! He is a handsome one! All the felines on here are real beauties. If I had my way I would be SecretWitchCrazyCatLady..

VenusDeWillendorf · 19/07/2014 16:03

Oh I love a little purring hot bottle!

How could you say no?

Secret Nothing wrong with being a crazy cat lady! And my strapping great DH loves our cat. He picks him up and coos in his ear Grin

ThinkingJanuary · 19/07/2014 16:11

Personally I don't like this. Have two cats and at night they are restricted to downstairs with access to the garden for their midnight hunting trips.

They are avid and capable hunters and often bring home their prizes of mice, frogs, birds etc. finding on of those dead or alive on my bed would do me in quite frankly, not to mention the hair.

However - my DS is always moaning saying how unfair it is - but he has eczema and the cat hair would just compound that problem further.

mollypup · 19/07/2014 16:12

YANBU! There is nothing unhygienic about a cat sleeping on a bed. My lady cat, Boo spends 23 hours a day snoozing/cleaning herself on it and it hasn't caused me to contract any life threatening diseases thus far. My other cat, Ted like clockwork jumps onto the bed when the lamp is turned off at night to get under the covers and sleep with his head on the pillow! Lovely (apart from when he trumps).

silveroldie2 · 19/07/2014 16:13

OP I don't think you quite understand, it's the cat's bed, not yours and you should be endlessly grateful he or she lets you sleep in it Smile. A regular supply of favourite food should ensure you don't end up sleeping on the floor.

EleanorAbernathy · 19/07/2014 16:15

My old lady cat always ends up snuggled next to me on the pillow, the others take turns at keeping my feet warm :)

Anniegetyourgun · 19/07/2014 16:20

Most cats are very clean animals, and hygiene is over-rated anyway. But let's not complain at a good excuse for showing lots of pictures of beautiful cats.

fackinell · 19/07/2014 16:24

I love it, although with 2 kitty's and a 6ft DP I tend to waken in some rather odd positions. My little one who's almost 2 but teeny for his age likes to sleep between my boobs. Grin
