Gah. Typed long reply and lost it.

Talk to your husband.

Iownafourinchporsche · 11/07/2014 08:18

35, no.

Iownafourinchporsche · 11/07/2014 08:19

Most of the babies I know are born to mums aged 30 to 45

LittlePeaPod · 11/07/2014 08:21

I had DD when I was 37. Not too old.

JosieMcDozie · 11/07/2014 08:26

Whatever works for you. I had my first at 35, second at 39 (14 weeks ago) and want another within the next couple of years. A 40 year old can be a lot healthier and able to cope better with pregnancy and motherhood than some 20 year olds - also works the other way too...everyone's different.

fluffyraggies · 11/07/2014 08:28

pissedglitter - i have to say - just 7 years ago i felt exactly as you do now. Mum of 3 under 5's at 29 ... if you'd have asked me at 30 if i'd be having anymore i'd have said not a chance in hell thank you very much!

However - i split with their dad and and my new DH had no biological DCs of his own so we went for it. So so happy to welcome no.4 DD into our lives. Bundle of joy.

Never say never ;):)

KikitheKitKat · 11/07/2014 08:30

Ha! I hadn't even had my first yet at 35. Have 2 now.Smile

Velocirapture · 11/07/2014 08:33

No, not at all, especially if it is not your first.

VerityWaves · 11/07/2014 08:34

I'm that age and I agree with you. It's so nice to have them younger if possible. For you and the child.

Knottyknitter · 11/07/2014 08:37

Expecting dc1 less than 2 weeks before my 36th birthday. Feel just as terrified as i would at 15, i think, but definitely in a better situation to start a family now.

littlewhitebag · 11/07/2014 08:37

I had my third at 35. She is 16 now and I don't feel like an old parent.

My DH's aunt had her first at 40 and went on to have another 2 after that. She is a fab mum.

kidyoullmovemountains · 11/07/2014 08:41

Lemonwelly I had dc at 21 and 34 too, I thought I was the only one with such a gap!

I feel a little tired for more, but for better or worse I also think in terms of finances too (having 3 being expensive). However, if it is your first you may well be in a better financial situation when you are older.

It is so individual isn't it?

Mrsjayy · 11/07/2014 08:42

When I was 35 my eldest was 14 so it be to old for me but many women have young children at that age my friend had her dc2 at 36 yabu and a bit agiest tbh

tilliebob · 11/07/2014 08:46

Eh, no! I had dc3 at 37 with almost 7 and 9 years between them and the other dcs. I didn't start my family until 29 anyway. My mate had her two dcs in her 40's. Wish folks would get over the age thing!

Rebecca2014 · 11/07/2014 08:48

It be too old for me but only because I had my first young, there would be an 13 year difference.

trappedinsuburbia · 11/07/2014 08:49

I had my first at 30 and second at 37, I wish I had been finishing at 30 not starting, I am feeling a bit knackered this morning though .....

Sparklypants · 11/07/2014 08:50

I was 18 when I had dd and 34 when I had ds....

tobysmum77 · 11/07/2014 08:51

fluffy raggies that isn't true. In fact for some conditions (pe being one) younger mums are at higher risk. Also there is lower risk of cot death for example with older mums.

The hcps say that 20-35 is optimum but it is a personal thing, some people are more fertile later. My ex next door neighbour tried for 6 years in her 20s, then eventually had 3 children at 32, 36 and 40. In her case it was clearly what worked for her body!

HazelBite · 11/07/2014 08:58

At 35 I had twins, other DC's were 6 and 3 at the time, I coped, it was hard but that had nothing to do with my age, and more down to the fact that there were two babies and a lively 3 year old vying for my attention!

DownstairsMixUp · 11/07/2014 09:03

Definitely personal preference. Too old for me. My Ds1 will be nearly 13 when I'm 34 and ds2 will be 7. I hopefully will have my own life back in my 40's. Grin

Sparklypants · 11/07/2014 09:10

Downstairs...hahaha, that's what I always thought...I now have a VERY boisterous and lively nearly 3 yr old running around. I'm knackered

echt · 11/07/2014 09:11

I had my only child at 40, and would have been thrilled to have more. At nearly 60 now, no I don't think 35 is too old.

Having said that, there's probably a tipping point for every individual, related to energy, income, as much as age.

DownstairsMixUp · 11/07/2014 09:14

sparkly Think I'll book DP in for the snip after DS2's arrival... Grin

wonkylegs · 11/07/2014 09:16

Ha not at all too old.
My mum had her 1st child (me) at 35 and her 4th at 45. No problems at all.
As most of my friends are professionals like me who only qualified in their late 20's, married/got with partners in their late 20's/ early 30's - they are all having kids in their mid to late 30's & some are having them in their 40's.
