Little Princess on Board
Twins on Board
Grandkids on Board
Yummy Mummy on Board

Who cares? Just drive the bloody car carefully. It's no one's business who's 'on board'.

Fuck me I hate them too. YANBU.

Always seems to me like they're somehow boasting that they have offspring / grandkids. Like it's something special, unusual and amazing.

Get over yourselves.

bigdog888 · 30/06/2014 11:05

It's a great way of spotting a crap driver though! Keep well out of their way!

Seeline · 30/06/2014 11:05

I actually saw one the other day that read 'Princess x and Princess Y on board@ - used the kids real names Confused'
I think they are all utterly pointless....

If they said something like 'incompetent driver on board'
or 'driver incapable of using indicators on board' they would at least serve a purpose Grin

Pumpkinpositive · 30/06/2014 11:06

I saw one a while ago I quite liked.

Ex wife in boot

Vintagejazz · 30/06/2014 11:07

I saw a car the other day that had 'Baby on Board' on one side of the rear window, and 'Toddler on Board' on the other.
I presume the front window had 'Daddy on Board' and 'Mummy on Board' stickers.
And when they give a relative a lift they probably put an 'Auntie Eileen on Board' sticker in the middle of the rear window.

Whowouldfardelsbear · 30/06/2014 11:10

At least they're not quite as sickly as the stick people families - as if anyone else gives a fuck about your family when they're in the car behind you . . .

beccajoh · 30/06/2014 11:10

I recall reading somewhere recently that you're more likely to be involved in an accident if you have one of those signs in your car. I don't remember why... I agree they're ridiculous. People buy them because they think people might drive a bit more carefully, but they're so ubiquitous you don't even see them any more.

LongTimeLurking · 30/06/2014 11:12

YABU. The signs are put there to warn you of a crap driver ahead.

SybilRamkin · 30/06/2014 11:13

I agree that the 'Princess' ones are nauseating, but the actual point of those stickers (baby on board, toddler on board) is to alert rescue crews to the presence of a tiny person in the back who may not be immediately visible if there's an accident.

Pumpkinpositive · 30/06/2014 11:14

I recall reading somewhere recently that you're more likely to be involved in an accident if you have one of those signs in your car.

Because one's level of intelligent is inversely proportionate to the number and twee factor of these signs in the car?

More likely though, they create a blind spot in the back/side windows.

onedayiwillmissthis · 30/06/2014 11:14

I think the original idea...back in the day...was to let emergency services/first responders know if a baby was in the vehicle (in the event of an accident).
So...good idea...but 'ickle pwincess' type stuff. Yuk.

Monkeyandanimal · 30/06/2014 11:15

I don't like them, but aren't they to kind of warn people that the driver may not be driving that well, as they may be trying to break up a fight or pass their DC's snacks or something? My kids make me soooo angry when they are misbehaving in the back, and i'm sure i drive worse when they are acting up.

On another note, wasn't there a case where a small baby was rescued from a badly smashed up car, and it wasn't visible from the outside; it was only the Baby on Board sticker that alerted the emergency services.

I think they vary in their levels of naffness, cheesiness and preciousness, but i can see how they could serve a real purpose.

purpleplatypus · 30/06/2014 11:15

Definitely not, I think they're ridiculous! I shudder when I see the particularly saccharine ones.

However I was sounding off about how utterly stupid they are to a friend a few months ago (just after seeing 'Our Future Superstar On Board' - WTF), and ended up feeling a bit silly - she said they became popular years ago after a crash in which a couple were seriously injured and were taken to hospital unconscious. Nobody realised there was a baby in the back of the car at the scene of the accident, so they're meant to make this clear.

Not sure I believe this, tbh, but made me a little more sympathetic.

HauntedNoddyCar · 30/06/2014 11:16

The emergency services alert thing is not true.

Seeline · 30/06/2014 11:16

But they don't take the notices off when they do not have the children in the car do they? The emergency services could be wasting precious time/putting their lives in greater danger searching through wreckage for a non-existent child.

Pumpkinpositive · 30/06/2014 11:18

but the actual point of those stickers (baby on board, toddler on board) is to alert rescue crews to the presence of a tiny person in the back who may not be immediately visible if there's an accident.

I guess I was just lucky the ambulance crew managed to retrieve me from a field in pitch black, sub zeros conditions without the aid of "Daddy's little sugar plumb fairy on board" schmuck then. Confused

Vintagejazz · 30/06/2014 11:18

Surely the emergency services would always search the car to make sure there was no one trapped in there? And if the car was so badly damaged that they couldn't make this out, how on earth would the sign still be intact?

Also, that would only work if parents took the stickers off the car when the baby wasn't with them. Which they never do, so they've become a bit meaningless anyway.
And sticking a sign on the back of your car does not excuse driving carelessly because you're turning around to break up a fight between your children.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 30/06/2014 11:18

My estranged husband drove around for a week before he noticed the one saying

"Cock lodger on board"

Birdsgottafly · 30/06/2014 11:19

""Like it's something special, unusual and amazing. ""

Well I'm going to be a Nan by December and it will be special.

My window, my rules, get over yourself.

Although, me and my youngest are geeks so we will have various Anime and Marvel character clad little person on board.

LarrytheCucumber · 30/06/2014 11:19

SybilRamkin I thought that had been established as an urban myth. Have read that several times in Mumsnet.

gellicleCat · 30/06/2014 11:19
Blush I have one 'Woman who acts like a baby on board'
MrsJohnHarrison · 30/06/2014 11:20

A bit off topic, but I saw one yesterday that said (and I quote, including stars)
'This car runs on f***g expensive diesel'

*My estranged husband drove around for a week before he noticed the one saying

"Cock lodger on board"*

This is brilliant! Grin

Birdsgottafly · 30/06/2014 11:22

"But they don't take the notices off when they do not have the children in the car do they? "

I would, the only permanent window decal is my "German Shepherd on board" sticker.

I don't know if it would help if some arsehole put his fingers through a cracked window and they were bitten off.
