Little Princess on Board
Twins on Board
Grandkids on Board
Yummy Mummy on Board

Who cares? Just drive the bloody car carefully. It's no one's business who's 'on board'.

OP posts:
Daisymasie · 30/06/2014 11:46

I don't get them either. They're daft and some of them are really pretentious 'Little Angel on Board' 'Perfect Family on Board' Ugh!

silveroldie2 · 30/06/2014 11:49

I used to hate them when I drove a car - always used to wish my car would turn into a tank and drive over the car in front flattening it. Sense prevailed, I didn't do it Smile

beccajoh · 30/06/2014 11:51

Enb, I work by the same sort of rule: that every other driver is a moron (and usually they are).

blondiebonce · 30/06/2014 11:53

NCISaddict...you do make a fair point.

silveroldie2 it's only a sign!

OddFodd · 30/06/2014 11:53

Well if people want other people to think they're idiots, that's up to them. But I do mentally drop the driver's IQ by about 40 points when I see them

BadgersBum · 30/06/2014 11:54

When I was on ML DH and I decided to drop to 1 car to save a bit of money. In his 'wisdom' he chose to put a car sign with his football team on in the window, without thinking that I had to attend my keep in touch days in the next county, where there is a strong feeling of football rivalry.

Can't put into words how much I enjoyed cleaning the phlegm off my windscreen before I could drive home that evening. Maybe I could buy one saying 'football impassive person on board, please don't hack up on my window'?

arethereanyleftatall · 30/06/2014 11:54

So by that blondie, you are implying if there is no baby on board the driver behind can drive as close and as dangerously behind you as he likes?!?

Daisymasie · 30/06/2014 11:57

I am Shock that people think these signs can be used to alert other drivers to the fact that you'll probably be distracted by your kids so to expect some erratic driving.

MissHC · 30/06/2014 11:57

This topic comes up quite often on MM.

I do have a "baby on board" sign on my car. A basic yellow and black one. The main reason is in the hope that people will leave enough space when parking next to me so I can get DD out and back in the car seat.

I'm not a fan of those pink glittery "pwecious pwincess on board" ones though. Tacky.

Vintagejazz · 30/06/2014 11:59

Totally up to people if they want to stick these signs on their car for all to see.

And totally up to the rest of us if we want to comment on them.

blondiebonce · 30/06/2014 12:03

arethereanyleftatall - not at all! Drivers should be careful wherever they're driving or who's in the cars around them etc. But unfortunately they're not. I know tw@ts will be tw@ts whether people have signs or not, but I can't see that a harmless sign I was cheesy enough to buy would hurt.

Showy · 30/06/2014 12:04

Where exactly is this emergency services alert crap from? I've never seen it endorsed anywhere, on a fb meme or talked about in RL. Only on MN. DH is a copper and says you can rest assured that they check all cars and accident sites for unknown passengers and in the event that all other passengers are unconscious and the child AND carseat have been thrown into a field, the little sticker would be nowhere to be seen along with no back window. They actually advise you DON'T use them since they're misleading at best and blocking your window at worst. If you're too frazzled to drive, don't drive.

Numanoid · 30/06/2014 12:08

I don't like them either, they don't make a blind bit of difference. I wouldn't be driving too close to someone, or under the influence, etc. anyway, regardless of who is in the car.
On a more superficial note, I think they look quite stupid. Confused

MildDrPepperAddiction · 30/06/2014 12:13

Apparently the thing about the sign being for first responders to check for baby was a story generated to sell the signs in the first place. Try snopes or similar. I'm sure they have it.

Vintagejazz · 30/06/2014 12:18

So basically these signs not only serve no useful purpose, but can mislead emergency services and block a driver's view.
They also encourage some parents to think it gives them a special dispensation to drive badly.

Maybe they should be just bloody banned.

HonoraryOctonaut · 30/06/2014 12:24

I like them. I don't drive but when I do I might get some. Lots of people must like them otherwise there wouldn't be so many around.

My ex had one on his front windscreen when I met him, above the passenger side saying 'My Bitch' - I wouldn't get in the car with him until it was taken off and binned.

Vintagejazz · 30/06/2014 12:28

Years ago didn't people have stickers across their front window stating 'Sharon and Wayne' 'Darren and Lisa' or whoever the luvved up couple were.

Equally pointless.

goodasitgets · 30/06/2014 12:32

I did see one that said "get any further up my arse and you'll need a condom" which made me laugh for far too long Grin

GrubbyOldSock · 30/06/2014 12:32

I like to believe that any one trained at emergency service would be willing to look in the back seat to see if there was a baby in it.

GrubbyOldSock · 30/06/2014 12:36

I don't thnk anyone will see a baybe on board sign and make any effort to not park too close. People don't think or (controversial) they wouldn't park in the baby and toddler spaces. It would be a good idea to have some that actually say " please don't park too closely I need space to get baby in an out and you probably don't want me to scratch your pwecious car

GrubbyOldSock · 30/06/2014 12:37

baybe????? I wasn't even be sarcastic.

colleysmill · 30/06/2014 12:40

My campervan sports an informative sticker which says "you may get there first but I have beer in the fridge"

SelectASweetBreadTwist · 30/06/2014 12:48

They're twee, they serve no useful purpose and they probably increase the risk of accidents by blocking part of the driver's all-round visibility.

Perhaps I'll have one made that says "Unfortunately I have not been blessed by the gift of children, but I'd appreciate it if you didn't smash into my car anyway".

Ilovemydogandmydoglovesme · 30/06/2014 12:49

"If you drive up my arse I will hunt you down and kill you" - too severe?

Nope. I'd have one if it said 'If you hit my car with my children in it I will kill you.' Grin

I saw one recently that said 'warning, driver asleep' which I quite liked.

I think they were just someone's idea of another money-making gimmick to fleece new parents with. I had one for dd1 but it didn't last long.

AlpacaPicnic · 30/06/2014 12:50

Theres a car up the road from me that has a sticker in the window 'if you're going to ride my ass, at least pull my hair' which made me snort...
