to post this note on an actor's car?

Background: I live down a narrow road, only 11 terraced house, on-road parking, very close to the train station. It's hard getting a space at best of times as a resident, let alone when people park down it to avoid paying station car park. I have seen this actor park his big black jeep down the road several times. And, well, this time as his trotted off looking all pleased with himself I posted this note on his car. He has starred in a major TV show and adverts am sure he can afford £4.70.

to post this note on an actor's car?

Yabu doesn't matter how much a person earns as long as they are parked legally

CannyBagOfTudor · 19/06/2014 13:50

YABU.

puntasticusername · 19/06/2014 13:50

I can't read your note; I'm sure it's charming, though.

Seriously? YABU. I know it's a PITA but he has as much right to park there as any other member of the public, as long as he does it safely and legally. And you know very little about his finances.

fifi669 · 19/06/2014 13:50

I think i'd lobby the council for residents only parking. He may be cheap but I'd do it too.....

I hope you drawing attention to the fact he prob has a few bob doesn't cause him any trouble.

ShutTheFuckUpBarbara · 19/06/2014 13:51

:o I love it!

bitsnbobs14 · 19/06/2014 13:51

I can't read your sign?
I don't see what difference it makes, him being an actor?

Sleepwhenidie · 19/06/2014 13:52

yabvu

Boudica1990 · 19/06/2014 13:53

Yabu!

its a public road, he is parked legally.

Contact the council about residents parking.

SamG76 · 19/06/2014 13:54

Yes, and the idea that actors are by their nature wealthy is totally unreasonable. If he were a Premiership footballer, would be slightly different. He is unreasonable to drive a huge jeep, though, unless he regularly travels through the veldt or uses it as a rescue vehicle to drag people out of quicksand, etc....

Everard · 19/06/2014 13:54

It says 'You're an actor, am sure you can afford the station parking. What a cheapskate!'

I think it is a pointlessly rude note to leave. As has been said already, if he is parked legally, there is no reason why he should pay £4.70 to park in a carpark. I certainly wouldn't.

Just because he is an actor, a well-known one presumably, does not mean he is wealthy.

If you want to make a point that his parking is preventing you from parking outside your house and you are disabled/have small children/have some other pressing reason to park close to your house, then at least write a note that explains that, not the one you have written.

OwlCapone · 19/06/2014 13:56

Do you own the road?
Is he parking on private property?
Is he locking access to your house?
No? Then YABU. And a bit arsey.

ellabelle · 19/06/2014 14:00

Yes of course you must be right, an actor who has work on adverts and a role in a big TV series probably does earn the same as the care worker who lives at No.5. I presume people choose to park down our street to avoid paying the car park fee not because they enjoy the extra 3 min walk to the station?

I have many actor friends...some of them have been in Eastenders, Corrie etc....for prolonged periods and they're poor! When they're not in a soap they're working as bloody waiters! One friend in particular is so broke he's just moved back in with his Mum aged 40...he's been in EE for ages a while back. Since then it's all gone tits up and he's broke.

londonrach · 19/06/2014 14:02

Yabu. If a public road no restrictions he can park there. Your message no idea what it says is very rude and could be a police matter as harassment as you seem to know who he is. If you live on that road they know who it is so they might come knocking if he reports it. If worried you should have contacted the council to request residence parking which you would have to pay for.

CannyBagOfTudor · 19/06/2014 14:02

It's none of your business how much he earns.

Who made you lord and master of deciding who is allowed where to park?

Your note makes you look deranged. I bet you wouldn't say it to his face because you'd look like a weirdo

londonrach · 19/06/2014 14:04

Actor is seasonal work and it's often living hand to mouth until the next pay cheque.

ExcuseTypos · 19/06/2014 14:05

Unless you know his personal financial situation- which I presume you don't, then to call him a cheapskate is very rude.

He may have given all his money to charity for all you know, he could have lost it all gambling or he could be on a very modest salary.

Do you do this to other people or have you just picked on him?

Saganoren · 19/06/2014 14:06

You're incredibly rude and unpleasant.

ellabelle · 19/06/2014 14:08

I don't know how to reply to people direct here as this is my first thread, but:
CannyBagOfTudor - I absolutely would say it to his face and I actually can't wait for him to reappear so I can
londonrach - Police matter?! "Lady arrested for calling someone a cheapskate". I await my sentencing.
OwlCapone - No, he wasn't blocking my enterance. In fact I am lucky as I am the only house down the street to have a drive so the on-street parking doesn't really affect me.
fifi669 - how would it cause him trouble?

CorporateRockWhore · 19/06/2014 14:09

Aw that's really rude! Imagine coming back to a cheeky note on your car, your cheeks would be burning. Who cares what he does for a living?

And he's not technically doing anything wrong, just something you personally don't like.

MrsDe · 19/06/2014 14:09

Very rude. The parking isn't restricted. Are you saying that we should have "means tested" car parking spaces? Do you know the ins and outs of the actors finances (why does it matter anyway??). Absolutely breathtakingly arrogant and very rude.

Floggingmolly · 19/06/2014 14:10

It's a common misconception; that you have any entitlement whatsoever over the road beyond your garden boundary fence...
He got there in time to get a parking slot, the caseworker at no. 5 presumably didn't. Tough.

LookingThroughTheFog · 19/06/2014 14:10

Basically you're saying that because you recognise him, he hasn't got the right to park on a public road like anyone else. The next car might belong to someone on a significantly higher salary than him (TV and adverts isn't going to put him in the extremely wealthy bracket), but because you recognise him and have made that snap judgement about what his income must be, you're going to pick on him specifically.

It's annoying when there's no parking on the road, but a better way of dealing with it might be contacting the council and petitioning for residents only parking.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 19/06/2014 14:11

Acting is very poorly paid unless you get into the a list. It's a bit of a feast or famine type job

How do you know other people parking on your road aren't multi millionaires? Why pick on him because he has a visible job.

MrsDe · 19/06/2014 14:11

Oh, and not that it would make it reasonable, why did you feel the need for it to be annonymous? Surely if you stand by what you said you could have put your name/address on it so that the actor had the chance to speak to you about it? No, didn't think you'd like to do that.
