Dn seams to always be coming home with sweets, I just think it should be up to the parents to decide on these things, I would be livid. Should the school ban this?

"I would be livid" seriously?

CoffeeTea103 · 01/06/2014 10:53

You seem to have lots of issues with food. Do you enjoy controlling what people eat.

Jinsei · 01/06/2014 10:53

It's mildly irritating at best. Livid is definitely an overreaction! :)

Piddlepuddle · 01/06/2014 10:53

Will no one think of the children ?

StarDustInTheWind · 01/06/2014 10:54

it is a bit of fun... if they bring them home they can be "rationed" if needs be...

mine used to love it because it meant they could spend their pocket money on yet more moshi monster stuff and still have sweets that week...

Mckayz · 01/06/2014 10:54

YABU. My DC love taking sweets or cakes in for their friends. If you don't want them to eat them then don't let them.

Goblinchild · 01/06/2014 10:54

We had this discussion when a couple of parents complained about the birthday sweets thing, so we put it to a parent vote and the majority came out in favour of allowing sweets for birthdays.
The parents did decide.
You could always ban your children from accepting them.

Bowlersarm · 01/06/2014 10:54

I don't think schools should ban it. Why would you be livid?

DefiniteMaybe · 01/06/2014 10:54

The only part if it that annoys me is that it's always a lolly and dd is obsessed with lollies so if ds gets one I have to go buy one for dd.

Silvercatowner · 01/06/2014 10:55

Awww it's a lovely thing to do an teaches the children so much about celebration and specialness. Honestly - a few sweets aren't going to wreck your child's life. Save them for their pudding if you are that joyless.

brt100 · 01/06/2014 10:55

Coffee society has issues with food with 2/3rd of adults over weight.

OP posts:
ilovesooty · 01/06/2014 10:55

How bloody joyless that sounds.

Goblinchild · 01/06/2014 10:55

'Why would you be livid?'

May all your troubles be sooo small. Grin

magpiegin · 01/06/2014 10:56

Livid? I'm guessing it's only a tiny bag of sweets or a lolly or something. Surely not worth spending too much time worrying about it.

Goblinchild · 01/06/2014 10:56

I used to trade a lolly for chocolate with my two, because we didn't allow hard-boiled sweets.

Madamecastafiore · 01/06/2014 10:57

No sweets, no making money from property, harbinger of bloody doom!

Busymumto3dc · 01/06/2014 10:57

Our school don't allow it

Children take it boxes of raisins or little items such as rubbers instead

Picturesinthefirelight · 01/06/2014 10:57

It's not allowed at ds's. school. In daft you can't send anything in.

magpiegin · 01/06/2014 10:58

Yes, lots of adults are overweight, but some sweets are not going to make your kids into overweight adults. They need education about a balanced (including some bad stuff) diet and exercise from home.

Bowlersarm · 01/06/2014 10:59

Ah ha that OP. (So you didn't get out of bed the right side this morning OP Wink)

OorWullie · 01/06/2014 10:59

Tell them to eat the sweets before they get home. Then it wont annoy you.

brt100 · 01/06/2014 10:59

Well I think the view that sweets are the only fun thing for a birthday is pretty sad.

OP posts:
Goblinchild · 01/06/2014 10:59

Op, you have a posting history full of minor worries about car lights, people eating meat in your house, colleagues and windows...have you thought of taking up a hobby?

ilovesooty · 01/06/2014 11:00

I see it's not even your own child's health you have issues with, yet you want schools to ban sweets for birthdays?

slartybartfast · 01/06/2014 11:01

yabu,
its tradition

and quite annoying when as a parent of the birthday child, you have to buy a multi pack and arent entirely sure just How Many actual lollies are in the bag.
