to wish children at school didn't bring sweets in for the whole class on the birthday

Dn seams to always be coming home with sweets, I just think it should be up to the parents to decide on these things, I would be livid. Should the school ban this?

You seem to have lots of issues with food. Do you enjoy controlling what people eat.

it is a bit of fun... if they bring them home they can be "rationed" if needs be...

mine used to love it because it meant they could spend their pocket money on yet more moshi monster stuff and still have sweets that week...

YABU. My DC love taking sweets or cakes in for their friends. If you don't want them to eat them then don't let them.

We had this discussion when a couple of parents complained about the birthday sweets thing, so we put it to a parent vote and the majority came out in favour of allowing sweets for birthdays.
The parents did decide.
You could always ban your children from accepting them.

The only part if it that annoys me is that it's always a lolly and dd is obsessed with lollies so if ds gets one I have to go buy one for dd.

Awww it's a lovely thing to do an teaches the children so much about celebration and specialness. Honestly - a few sweets aren't going to wreck your child's life. Save them for their pudding if you are that joyless.

I used to trade a lolly for chocolate with my two, because we didn't allow hard-boiled sweets.

Yes, lots of adults are overweight, but some sweets are not going to make your kids into overweight adults. They need education about a balanced (including some bad stuff) diet and exercise from home.

Well I think the view that sweets are the only fun thing for a birthday is pretty sad.

Op, you have a posting history full of minor worries about car lights, people eating meat in your house, colleagues and windows...have you thought of taking up a hobby?

I see it's not even your own child's health you have issues with, yet you want schools to ban sweets for birthdays?
