to wish that people would stop assuming I'm a feminist just because I'm female?

Does this happen to other people? It's beginning to annoy me.

I'm dead dubious, me. I get asked to lecture about my dubiousness (dubiosity?) allllll the time.

PrincessBabyCat · 28/05/2014 21:52

Comparing radical feminist to that shower of shites in Westboro is pretty off.

They both have their extreme and ridiculous ideas.

Radical feminism believes that all PIV sex is assault and violence towards women. Hmm I am of the firm belief they have no Gspots

WillieWaggledagger · 28/05/2014 21:52

op are you (for example) a captain of industry, one of few women at your level, and you're asked to speak to women's groups in an inspiring/mentoring capacity, talking about your own experiences? but you feel it's not your responsibility to take on that kind of role with other women? because that's fine of course, but doesn't necessarily mean you're not generally aligned with feminist ideals, just because you don't want to take on any kind of activism. but people will ask, because there aren't that many women in that kind of position

(i realise i have made 1000000000 assumptions here)

AutumnStar · 28/05/2014 21:53

Hmm. You strike me as dubious, AF.

I bet you want to be in charge of your own vagina and everything, don't you?

JassyRadlett · 28/05/2014 21:54

This is the weirdest stealth boast in history.

HookingBrilliant · 28/05/2014 21:54

I'm a decent public speaker and I'm involved in business organisations.

MyrtleDove · 28/05/2014 21:54

Princess there are several strands of radical feminism - not all believe that PIV sex is rape.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/05/2014 21:54

What are these feminist events you mention. I never get invited to feminist events.

So much for the sisterhood eh?

So why not use your skills to improve the lot of other women who are more desperate for a break?

HookingBrilliant · 28/05/2014 21:55

But hardly a captain of industry. I don't earn that much.

OP posts:
MamaMumra · 28/05/2014 21:56

Bloody hell OP, you're very wishy washy for an in-demand feminist!

BitOutOfPractice · 28/05/2014 21:56

Oh so you did mean you're invited to speak.

I thought you'd changed your mind and said at 21:39 that it was invites to attend. Not to speak.

Now it's speaking invites again.

I'm also a decent public speaker and run my own business. My life is as yet unblighted by all these unsolicited feminist invites to speak / attend*

*delete as the OP changes mind

HookingBrilliant · 28/05/2014 21:57

No, I've had 4 or 5 invites to ATTEND this year. Only one invite to speak.

OP posts:
HookingBrilliant · 28/05/2014 21:59

In the 45 seconds it took me to type the 21:39 post to clarify my 21:38 post, there were two other posts so it didn't quite read as a follow on.

Joysmum · 28/05/2014 21:59

Just the same as those who believe in God don't have to be a member if an organised religion, so I don't consider myself a feminist despite believing in equality.

It's not coincidence that it's only women who are outspoken feminists who have denigrated my choices because they disagree what they believed a modern woman should be.

Feminism, no thanks.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/05/2014 21:59

Really? What "feminist events" were these?

And do make up your mind. Attend / speak / attend some / speak at one

I have never been invited to a "feminist event". Or speak at one. I'm feeling left out. Do enlighten me

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 28/05/2014 22:00

I must remind my WI group that we are at the cutting edge of radical exclusive feminism. (After tea and biscuits). Don't fret OP, we won't ask you to come and talk to us.

ThatBloodyWoman · 28/05/2014 22:00

This is all very mysterious.

But if you are a competent public speaker, and you may be able to make a difference to other women , would that not be reason enough to speak?

No one is asking you to shave your head and put yer docs on.....(are they?)

AnyFucker · 28/05/2014 22:00

PBC, you seem a bit misled about what radical Feminism represents. Whose been whispering your shell-like then ?

AnyFucker · 28/05/2014 22:01

Who's

Oh my grammar, what would Barack think of me < preen >

AutumnStar · 28/05/2014 22:02

Joysmum, can I ask why you think feminist is a negative label that you actively refute?

tethersend · 28/05/2014 22:02

Make your mind up, love.

Are you on your period or something?

Tsk. Hormones.

BitOutOfPractice · 28/05/2014 22:03

But seriously, I urge you to read this link about a woman being stoned to death by her family in the street in a supposedly democratic country

This happened today

And then tell me you're not a feminist. Not because you're a woman. But because you're a human being
