to wish that people would stop assuming I'm a feminist just because I'm female?

Does this happen to other people? It's beginning to annoy me.

why are you assuming that these "feminist events" are women only? Men can/should be feminists as well, you know!

I'd quite like equality
under what circumstances would you not like equality?

Gutted I missed this last night (I have manflu - or should that be womynflu? Whatever it is, I wish it'd go away).

I too want to know what these events are. I NEVER get invited to feminist events I've got a Fawcett Society t-shirt and everything...

As a matter of (very) small interest, TheFarce, there is a play called Good Night Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet, where Desdemona and Juliet survive due to a well-meaning bystander sticking their oar in (also Desdemona turns out to be an Amazonian warrior and Juliet is a sex-crazed emo, it's vair funny).

I get it. The "women in business" groups are sometimes counterproductive.

I'd rather aim at holding my own in a boardroom full of men, than speak at a women in business lunch. There's something a bit patronising about the concept...the feeling is a bit like all the bronze medallists all get together and celebrate being third. It's a bit consolation prize to me.

But I've always gone head to head with men, in male industries so maybe that's made me cold.

JassyRadlett · 29/05/2014 11:26

Good for you, Aussiemum. I know a lot of women who've found them useful with tips and ideas and different strategies for competing in male-dominated industries as high-performing women.

So, not for you. But your characterisation of what those sorts of events can do is way off. 'Consolation prize'? Please. 'Club to share ideas on how to get ahead?' Closer to the mark.
