Talking about how women always say nasty belittling things to you on a female-dominated website does come across as a bit of a self-perpetuating device, doesn't it?

Oh, yes, I know a great number of nice men, I cannot be a feminist. And some mean girls have been mean to me, I cannot be a feminist.

Feminism is about the societal system of patriarchy, not about individual people being nice or nasty.
I've even met rather horrid transsexual people on more than one occasion [hugs a kitten for reassurance]

But someone who believes in rights for women is a feminist.

The defining characteristic of feminism is: believing women have rights.

A million other beliefs and variants may inform an individual's particular take on feminism, but it boils down to something that elementary, and only if you can't agree that women should have rights can you say you're not a feminist.

I actually do get asked to speak at feminist events; it's part of my job.
