Does this happen to other people? It's beginning to annoy me.

OP posts:
LRDtheFeministDragon · 28/05/2014 22:57

Talking about how women always say nasty belittling things to you on a female-dominated website does come across as a bit of a self-perpetuating device, doesn't it?

Pagwatch · 28/05/2014 22:58

I have great ankles.

PacificDogwood · 28/05/2014 22:59

Oh, yes, I know a great number of nice men, I cannot be a feminist. And some mean girls have been mean to me, I cannot be a feminist.

Feminism is about the societal system of patriarchy, not about individual people being nice or nasty.
I've even met rather horrid transsexual people on more than one occasion Confused[hugs a kitten for reassurance]

PacificDogwood · 28/05/2014 22:59

ReputableBiscuit · 28/05/2014 22:59

Joysmum, if you believe in equal rights, YOU ARE A FEMINIST, sorry.

That doesn't mean you have to approve of individual or organised feminists, or any one else's slant or demands.

But someone who believes in rights for women is a feminist.

Just as something with a trunk, branches and leaves is a tree.

The tree might claim 'I'm not a tree, those sycamores are really snooty and that maple denigrated me'.

But it is a tree.

You are a feminist.

Tree.

Feminist.

Pagwatch · 28/05/2014 23:01
Pagwatch · 28/05/2014 23:02

Oh yes. Great ankles

I never get invitations to fictitious feminist events though. [sadface]

ReputableBiscuit · 28/05/2014 23:03

The defining characteristic of feminism is: believing women have rights.

A million other beliefs and variants may inform an individual's particular take on feminism, but it boils down to something that elementary, and only if you can't agree that women should have rights can you say you're not a feminist.

SconeRhymesWithGone · 28/05/2014 23:04

I actually do get asked to speak at feminist events; it's part of my job.

I love my job. Smile

BitOutOfPractice · 28/05/2014 23:04

I think we might need to start our own event.

Only women with nice ankles allowed obviously.

Op can be our keynote speaker.

ShergarAndSpies · 28/05/2014 23:04

OP, please FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

just tell Pag which events you were invited to.

Please.

PacificDogwood · 28/05/2014 23:05

See, I give great tree; my ankles otoh were made for trousers. Long trousers Sad

AnyFucker · 28/05/2014 23:06

Joy, if you are talking about feminists critiquing your stance as a proponent of porn then it doesn't take a rocket science to figure out why you get less criticism from men.

Yes, I am available for weddings, christenings, funerals and divorce parties. Reasonable rates.

AnyFucker · 28/05/2014 23:06

scientist

PacificDogwood · 28/05/2014 23:06

Great.
Now that fecking Bitoutofpractice is discriminating against me because of my ankles. I bet she's a narsty feminist, she is

BitOutOfPractice · 28/05/2014 23:06

Shergar I asked first. Because I'm more feminist than Pag. And have nicer ankles.

PacificDogwood · 28/05/2014 23:07

AF, Bar Mitzvahs?

AnyFucker · 28/05/2014 23:07

I'll send you my card, PD

ThatBloodyWoman · 28/05/2014 23:07

Brownie quiz nights?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 28/05/2014 23:08

Envy scone, I want your job.

Actually, I want to do a feminist event and invite everyone, including the OP.

AnyFucker · 28/05/2014 23:08

I want to be in charge of biscuits

LRDtheFeministDragon · 28/05/2014 23:09

While I disagree, on the whole, with the need to insist someone who claims not to be a feminist must accept she is one, I properly love this:

'The tree might claim 'I'm not a tree, those sycamores are really snooty and that maple denigrated me'.

But it is a tree.'

Grin
Pagwatch · 28/05/2014 23:09

I have drunk quite a lot of rose. I need to know what feminist events are going on before I go to bed and pass out. Elegantly, of course. Plus I am worried about Shergar.

I woud hate this thread to have been made up by someone with a thicko agenda. That would be so incredibly disappointing.

PacificDogwood · 28/05/2014 23:09

Ah thanks, AF

I want to be in charge of Wine
