to ask how to vote tactically today

tisrainingagain · 22/05/2014 08:15

in order to help keep UKIP out?

Apologies for lack of knowledge. If the European vote is a proportionately representative one (is it?), does this mean that there is no need to vote tactically?

OP posts:
FreeSpirit89 · 22/05/2014 08:17

I have no idea who I'm voting for tbh, I'm may not worry.

Rogerthatmummy · 22/05/2014 08:17

Yes the euro vote is PR.

Vote for the party you feel best fits your views on issues affecting Europe, not just on the European Union, would be my advice.

Hassled · 22/05/2014 08:21

Tactical voting can go horribly wrong - just vote for the party that you feel most represents your views. You'd need a really firm idea of where the respective parties are in relation to each other in your area for tactical voting to work.

The rain will affect turnout - I wonder if anyone's polled on whether Ukip supporters or Labour supporters are most likely not to have an umbrella and be put off by the rain :o.

Rogerthatmummy · 22/05/2014 08:30

Ukip supporters will think it is part of some big EU conspiracy that has engineered bad weather to stop the electorate exercising their democratic right to vote...

sunshinecity17 · 22/05/2014 08:33

I am going ti vote UKIP, largely because of teh way they have been smeared

Shakirasma · 22/05/2014 08:36

I might spoil my paper by drawing another tick box for "none of the above".

Hassled · 22/05/2014 08:36

sunshine - if you vote Ukip it should be because you're read their policies and you understand and agree with what they think. The same applies for everyone - votes are important, and people should actually, properly understand how they're using them.

dawndonnaagain · 22/05/2014 08:41

The Greens are above the Lib Dems in the polls. As an ex Labour Councillor I shall be voting Green.

I do wonder sunshine what my children have done to hurt you?

dawndonnaagain · 22/05/2014 08:42

I would also like to point out that Farage has finally admitted that they are a racist party.

Farage says may link with Front National in Europe

BIWI · 22/05/2014 08:44

sunshine - they haven't been smeared. They are deliberately concealing their true intentions. And if you don't understand that then perhaps you shouldn't have a vote.

HoneyDragon · 22/05/2014 08:45

sunshine have you got confused with XFactor? With politics you are not supposed to vote for the ones you feel sorry for.

saoirse31 · 22/05/2014 08:50

While I despise the ukip... if you're going to vote for them you shouldn't have a vote biwi? What a believer in democracy you seem....

Really you know people can believe and vote for whom they want. And that cheap insults are only going to aggravate people not convibce them of the correctness of your personal views.

Arsepaste · 22/05/2014 08:52

I voted "tactically" in the last election. That worked well. This time, however, I'm voting with my guts. At least that way, if the "wrong" parties get in, at least I didn't contribute.

thebodylovesspring · 22/05/2014 08:53

I fear that UKIP will do well here as people protest vote.

It used to be the liberals/greens that did well but now I hate to say it but think it will be UKIP.

Please don't vote tactically op just vote for the party who seems to care the most for the weakest members of society.

For me that's labour although I would love to give Ed a massive kick up the arse. Or change him for Yvette cooper. I like her.

HoneyDragon · 22/05/2014 08:54

I live in a UKIP constituency because I'm surrounded by bigoted twats Sad

saoirse31 · 22/05/2014 08:55

Honeydragon... in a democracy there are not actually any rules as to how and why you vote.

People are not supposed to vote using any particular method to make their decision. some people wont share your views... doesnt make them or their vote any less valid than you and your vote.

thebodylovesspring · 22/05/2014 08:57

dawn the link isn't surprising is it! Horrible thought.

saoirse31 · 22/05/2014 09:05

Where does that article say ukip are racist? It says they will sit in a grouping which will include other eu sceptic parties some of which are racist. Most eu parl parties join larger groupings in a similar way.

Again I think ukip are awful but if youre going to convince people of that , making exaggerated claims is probably not the way.

HoneyDragon · 22/05/2014 09:13

Well, that chap in Hastings with the Nazi tattoos?

Members resigning because the claim the party is racist?

Indicate it might be a little bit racist?

I know how democracy works .... Doesn't mean I can't exercise my right to object to publicly made stupid declarations of reasons to vote. They could've said Tory, Labour or Green. It was still a ridiculous statement, even if the vote behind it is valid.

Maybe Farage should get his elderly Nana out to say he's a good boy really and just misunderstood....it'll rocket his popularity even further.

dawndonnaagain · 22/05/2014 09:13

I don't think the link is tenous saoirse. I may be biased, I have a couple of scars on my face delivered by the British National Front in 1978.

HoneyDragon · 22/05/2014 09:14

Oh sorry, you were referring to the linked article. Thanks

Damnautocorrect · 22/05/2014 09:14

Mine will be National Health Action party or greens as I'm not sure whose standing where I am.

bigdog888 · 22/05/2014 09:16

I'll be voting UKIP today as a disillusioned Conservative voter.

sunshinecity17 · 22/05/2014 09:19

dawndonna have you actually read the article? It says on some Brussels legislative issues they may vote the same way

peppinagiro · 22/05/2014 09:19

shakirasma like minds! I always think there should be a 'none of the above' box. I have thought hard and I genuinely don't agree with any of the parties. It annoys me that there's no way to clearly and unambiguously signal that you're not happy with any of the choices - spoiling your vote/abstaining are the only options, and are too ambiguous. The parties will just justify it to themselves as people being too stupid to tick the box properly/too lazy to turn up. I wonder what it would do to turnout levels if they added the none of the above box? And how many would tick it?
