And is banging on about how disgusting the meat industry is etc etc, putting provocative shit on facefuck and generally shoving it down my throat. (and her other friends too i imagine). She has two young children and is now thinking about feeding them a vegan diet too - great, im sure its very healthy, whoopie. But i don't want to become a vegan, i was veggie for a while but found it too restrictive i am too lazy and expensive to eat properly. Whatever.

You know what - if you want to be veggie, great, if you want to be and can manage to be vegan - respect! but fuck off with trying to make me feel guilty for not doing the same thing. EVERY fucking time i see or talk to you. especially when the last time i saw you shopping in tesco before you met a new group of friends you were buying battery farmed eggs

She tried to make me have soya milk and really got shitty when i said, no i'll have proper milk please, because actually, and i can't be 100% sure it was the soya or quorn but i had an allergic reaction and had to be blue lighted to hospital when i ate a veggie spag bol once before, so no thankyou very much. Thinking back i could have just had black coffee but was tired and mind fucked from her going on about the poor fucking cows....

Rant over

YANBU, I can't stand uninvited preaching about anything.

KingJoffreysBloodshotEye · 14/05/2014 21:43

Ooooo, I have a joke to cheer you up.

Grin

Ready?

How do you work out if someone is a vegan?

Don't worry. They'll fucking tell you!!

Wink
itsbetterthanabox · 14/05/2014 21:44

When people first start they do rant. But she will soon learn that meat eaters are too selfish to listen Grin

MaryWestmacott · 14/05/2014 21:45

Hide her from your facebook. Avoid for a while, if she's just found some new friends and is all excited and full of the passion of the new convert.

It's all a new thing and she had no issues with eating battery farmed eggs previously, just avoid her for a couple of months. By then she'll have either given up, or at least have calmed down about it.

Joules68 · 14/05/2014 21:45

Why are they poor cows?

ancientbuchanan · 14/05/2014 21:47

You'll prob have to take your own milk from now on, if the dcs become vegan too.

Most converts to anything are boring at the beginning.

It's quite hard cooking for them, I find, save for curries and stir fries.

picnicbasketcase · 14/05/2014 21:50

YANBU at all. Up to her what she eats, up to you what you eat. Neither of you should attempt to convert the other and she's being quite rude to force her views on you.

Thing is mary, she is a really lovely, kind and caring person, but i really am going to have to slap her about the head with a wet salmon if she doesn't get over herself soon.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 14/05/2014 21:53

God I don't even know her, and yet this thread has made me want to shit in my hand and slap her right around the face Shock

UncleT · 14/05/2014 21:54

So long as you're not trying to force her to eat meat or other animal products, she can bugger off!

JonSnowsPout · 14/05/2014 21:55

A few years back a friend on Facebook posted a message saying she was defriending all non vegans as we were under evolved and she was sad for us.
Hilarious.

She was alot less preachy after a few years and cringed like mad at her zealot year.

gobbin · 14/05/2014 21:56

Nothing worse than an evangelist.

Kerryp · 14/05/2014 21:57

This made me smile, I suggest making yourself a nice big bacon sandwich next time she's round and make sure she knows your enjoying it, either she'll learn to back off or she'll have a real go and you'll see she's not a real friend if she can't let you be you. ??

KeepOnKeepingOnAndOnAndOnAndOn · 14/05/2014 21:57

Bahahaha @ Worral!

Topaz25 · 14/05/2014 21:57

I'm vegan but I don't behave like that. I believe you catch more flies with agave so I don't alienate my friends by being aggressive about my lifestyle. TBH your friend just sounds selfish. She expects you to care about her dietary preferences but she doesn't care about your allergies?!

Kerryp · 14/05/2014 21:58

Worraliberty I take my hat off to you lol

bluesbaby · 14/05/2014 21:58

I think we know the same person :D

MaryWestmacott · 14/05/2014 21:59

OP - just avoid for a few months, she'll either get bored, or someone else will do the fish slap thing and you won't have to do it.

If you really can't avoid, meet her out and about, order for yourself(!) and if she starts, you could cut her off with "can I just stop you there. I know you are really passionate about your decision to go vegan, but I'm not interested, so please stop going on about it, I'm not going to convert and I'd hate to feel I have to avoid you because every time I see you I know you're just going to nag me about it." then if she says it again, "you're nagging again, not going to covert, stop it." Eventually she'll get the message. She might stop seeing you though...

carcharodoncarcharias · 14/05/2014 21:59

Evangelical anythings vegans are a pain in the neck.

The thing is, it's a difficult diet to maintain. So much effort is required that it seems almost indulgent.

I've never understood why they can't eat free-range, organic, un-fertilised eggs. My vegetarian friends haven't been able to explain that one to me either.

exexpat · 14/05/2014 21:59

New converts to anything can be rather tedious - one of my relatives is a recent convert to Islam, and posts inspiring quotes, pictures of new hijabs etc about ten times a day. I have hidden her posts.

gamerchick · 14/05/2014 21:59

Just post a picture of a big juicy steak that you're about to have for your tea. I tend to do something like that every now and then in response to the slew of meat is murder bollocks that infects my time line.

Forgettable · 14/05/2014 22:00

One of my dear friends is now vegan and bloody helll bangs on about it all the time. Vegans of course do have a point, the dairy industry for example gives me pause for thought as does the egg industry.

It is annoying, the proselytising, I grant you.

LostMyPants · 14/05/2014 22:03

Worra, that is a beautiful image, thank you.

Forgettable · 14/05/2014 22:06

Free range unfertilised eggs blah blah - you are still keeping the birds, captive, ignoring their sentience, or something like that.

MidniteScribbler · 14/05/2014 22:07

I hate that some vegans/vegetarians get sooooo pissy when someone makes a comment about their diet, but they think they're allowed to lecture you right through your meal about your own food choices.

I never understood the egg thing either. I have three chickens. They have a big cat proof enclosure, cozy bedding, plenty of chance to free roam when I'm out in the yard, good food, kept healthy, and in exchange they let me have their eggs which is essentially a waste product (no rooster here). Seems like a great deal to me and I'm at a loss to find any ethical concerns about it.
