to wash my Crocs in the dishwasher (and poss DC's Clarks too)

DC and I all wear Crocs and every few months I put them all in the dishwasher on top rack with kitchen bin lid on bottom rack for a good clean. They come out like new, as does the bin lid. I mentioned this to a friend the other day and she looked a bit horrified like she was making a mental note not to ever eat off my dishes again. Is this disgusting? I put plates that had raw meat on them in the dishwasher so assume if it can kill that bacteria shoes will be ok too.

Also, have been considering putting all the Clarks school shoes in too but haven't had the courage yet. I tried Clarks in the washing machine on a special sport shoe setting but it didn't get them clean at all. They weren't ruined in any way though.

Lastly, (I can see this coming) please don't say I am BU just for wearing Crocs! I have size 9/ 9.5 feet and not a huge array of options. I stay away from the 'clog' styles though.

Brilliant idea - going to try it myself. Putting shoes in the washing m/c damages the machine, or so I've been told. But DW is a great idea. The water is hot enough to kill all germs.

I put the big white stone we use as a doorstop in ours along with the shampoo racks from the shower, the dog food bowls, Kongs, bridle bits and stirrup irons.

If it's something particularly grubby I put it through a cleaning cycle afterwards.

I find that totally disgusting. I wouldn't want to eat off your plates either

My Dh washed various carburettors in the DW, they came up a treat. I didn't know about it until a few weeks later, so obviously there was no harm done.

My dad always washed his bits and pieces he used for modelling or mending covered in dirt and oil. They clean beautiful. Never been ill from eating if plates in the dw set the same time. It's cleaner from washing up.

I don't like the idea either to be honest.

Why is it disgusting? It's a cleaning machine, it sterilises everything in it.
The only time it could possibly seem odd is if shoes went in alongside plates

I dont think its a bad idea at all.... but I would run the DW on empty afterwards to clean out any bits. I do the same with washing machine - wash dogs bed - then put washing machine on hot quick wash to wash out any germs..... not sure if its necessary but makes me feel better! Im so going to try the bin lid and oven racks tonight

No difference to using the sink, we don't have a dw as think they are useless but everything is washed in the same sink
Don't do the clarks though asit will stretch the leather.
one year my dd went through a deep puddle, the straps on the shoes were baggy and wouldn't fasten after this.

I wear my crocs in the shower when they're dirty!

although I do remember an episode of Embarassing Bodies where a lady was very fond of home enemas. She was never washing the bits that you put up your bum (!) and Dr Pixie explained that she really really needed to..... cue a shot of her putting the bum bit of the attachment in the DW whilst it was packed with dishes and cups...... She put it in the knifes and forks bit.... now that did make me feel sick.....

Hmm. This seems to be completely repulsive or a bloody great idea. I might just carry on but not mention it in public anymore!
I get the whole -you don't know what's on your shoes- but they come out absolutely squeaky clean so to me it seems like all the dirt will have been washed away down the drain, all the bacteria killed by the very hot water and soap. That's the whole point of a dishwasher. Could do an empty wash afterwards I suppose.

It's not disgusting at all, it is actually how they market crocs to chefs!

And I definitely wouldn't put them in with any visible dog shit on them!

I own neither crocs nor a dishwasher but my feeling is that I would soak them first in a bowl (not the washing up bowl) of hot soapy water (to get any bits off) and then put them in the dishwasher.

I don't understand why it's disgusting. As mentioned before it's a cleaning machine. If germs/dirt from crocs in one cycle got onto your dishes in the next cycle then something is wrong with your dishwasher I'd say. Only disgusting if washed with the dishes!
