to wash my Crocs in the dishwasher (and poss DC's Clarks too)

DC and I all wear Crocs and every few months I put them all in the dishwasher on top rack with kitchen bin lid on bottom rack for a good clean. They come out like new, as does the bin lid. I mentioned this to a friend the other day and she looked a bit horrified like she was making a mental note not to ever eat off my dishes again. Is this disgusting? I put plates that had raw meat on them in the dishwasher so assume if it can kill that bacteria shoes will be ok too.

Also, have been considering putting all the Clarks school shoes in too but haven't had the courage yet. I tried Clarks in the washing machine on a special sport shoe setting but it didn't get them clean at all. They weren't ruined in any way though.

Lastly, (I can see this coming) please don't say I am BU just for wearing Crocs! I have size 9/ 9.5 feet and not a huge array of options. I stay away from the 'clog' styles though.

But if you don't wash a potty or loo brush in dw, then where do you? Surely a sink is worse as temps aren't hot enough?

BadgersNadgers · 13/05/2014 18:45

You're right xv

puntasticusername · 13/05/2014 18:51

Personally, I don't wash loo brushes at all.

NO, STAY WITH ME.

I just buy very cheap ones, keep the holders constantly topped up with bleachy water, change the water as soon as it starts looking manky then when the brush gets beyond the point of no return (ie all full of bits of loo roll and...stuff), I chuck it all away and start again.

I know it's rather wasteful, but I'm fairly thrifty in most areas of my life and don't throw much away unnecessarily, so this is one little thing I do allow myself to do.

There is more than one person on MN buying loo brushes and throwing them away, making the whole world into a vast, polluted toilet for everyone, using oil up and leaving things in landfills for thousands of years. Next to that a loo brush in the DW is tame really. I know which I find 'disgusting'.

Theodorous · 13/05/2014 18:58

I throw paintbrushes away as well, they are do cheap and saves faffing with white spirit

arethereanyleftatall · 13/05/2014 19:00

Nope, everlong.

Just to clarify I would get pretty much all the shit off first, down the loo on a flush....but then tbh I'm not really sure what to do!

arethereanyleftatall · 13/05/2014 19:04

Oh.

Yes, but I like your bleach and boiling water idea. I'll do that.

Sorry for tangent from the crocs op.

TwentiethCenturyGirl · 13/05/2014 19:14

Oh my god. This thread is making me feel sick. I can't believe so many people wash shoes, bin lids, dog bowls and toilet brush holders in their dishwashers - vom!

What if I know some of you in RL? I may never be able to accept a cuppa at somebody else's house again...

CremeEggThief · 13/05/2014 19:14

As long as you run an empty hot wash after the shoes, I suppose it's o.k.

I draw the line at pottys and loo brushes though. Yuk!

FoodieToo · 13/05/2014 19:20

What's wrong with putting them in the washing machine? We do,all the time. They come out like new!

MrsAtticus · 13/05/2014 19:26

Great idea, what temperature do you have the dishwasher at?

hennybeans · 13/05/2014 19:34

I run the dishwasher at 70 degrees which is the highest setting on mine. I also regularly run any empty wash with one of those bottle of dishwasher cleaner inside (well, every other month at least).
FoodieToo The washing machine hasn't got them clean in the past. Maybe a different setting might work better. Not thought to experiment after it didn't work well first time since dw is so efficient.

Speaking of underusing the dw, I once read a tip in a mag that suggested wrapping salmon in foil and poaching it in dw. Haven't tried because that seems wasteful and don't like salmon. But I guess the machine can be used for all sorts.

I am repulsed by some folk on here.
There was a thread last week about a woman moaning that her dm brings her own cup and plate to her house, maybe this explains it.
I would never wash anything used for food with anything else.
I've heard it all now!

Goldmandra · 13/05/2014 19:43

I would never wash anything used for food with anything else.

Who said they are doing that?

makeminea6x · 13/05/2014 19:44

I don't have a dishwasher.

What is everyone's problem with crocs? They are just shoes ffs? What's with the constant judging if other people's footwear? Name me another shoe that's as convenient?

Or am I supposed to bind my feet and put them in tiny milanos so I count as a real woman?

LoveBeingCantThinkOfAName · 13/05/2014 19:46

Oh my god, shoes are bad enough, bin kids make me oak, but really toilet brushes? Please someone tell me you are joking?
