It is a pretty working class street, some council, some privately owned houses. Not sure if that is relevant but WHY the fuck would you advertise the fact that you are a fuckwit? All of the people with the notices up are older people - older than me, which is 43 (im not older!!!! - ok, maybe a bit).

Its pretty worrying really that what i would normally see as very respectable folk have been sucked in by this bullshit?

This is a conservative ward, and although dissilussioned with the previous gov i have always voted labour - i am going to have to vote bloody tory in a half beat effort to keep Ukip out of the area :(

My DD lives in a town with a ukip counsellor - its fucking dire and getting worse :(

But woowoo its not a valid voice is it, its a protest vote. My DD's area used to be "up and coming" Ukip have put paid to that pretty quickly - at least thats what seems to be happening - coincidence?

Bloody hell people should vote for who they like without fear of being judged.

StarGazeyPond · 10/05/2014 17:37

I think a lot of people are going to be absolutely shocked to see how many people vote for UKIP.

If the other 3 parties had listened/or would listen to what their electorate are saying to them then it wouldn't happen.

LEMmingaround · 10/05/2014 17:38

kinky - for me ukip represents racism, nothing more - maybe im wrong.

Katymac - I am so sorry your DD feels that way, i think i would have cried too :(

Rebecca - i would imagine if you have the notice in your window/car window you either aren't bothered about being judged or think you are in the right and may well be judging others with posters from other parties in their window - in fact, probably more likely to judge i would think.

Its protest voting but i can't help but thinking - be careful what you wish for, after all look what happened in the general elections!

My poor dd came home from uni last week to find a UKIP Flag in their front garden! The landlord had put it up while they were out. She immediately went online to check her rights and apparently she can't do anything about it. A LL can't stick anything to your windows but they can put things in the front garden.

She phoned me in tears. She said she doesn't want people thinking she supports them. They can't take it down as you need a key to unlock the rope bit. I told her to put a sticker of every other party in their front window.

WickedWitchoftheNorthWest · 10/05/2014 17:43

DH and I both got conservative pamphlets. He got a big one and mine was much smaller, though Hmm. I definitely judge people with UKIP posters up but to me it's a useful indicator - a sign that says "unintelligent arse lives here", basically.

Why judge? Well because UKIP for some reason seem to blame he current economicosition on hardworking immigrants who came here to do jobs Brits don't want in order to make a better life for their families. Why on earth they think that's caused anything when it was clearly the bankers is beyond me. I find it terrifying when a political party starts rising to power on the back of hatred towards a particular minority group. Reminds me of another political party I remember ... The lovely Bulgarian engineer I work with is terrified for his wife and children now Sad.

TequilaMockingbirdy · 10/05/2014 17:43

That's bang out of order excusetypos what an idiot LL.

RebeccaCloud9 · 10/05/2014 17:46

Roger Helmer is standing to vote in my constituency and it makes me sick to think there's a possibility of him getting in. Not because of UKIP's stance on Europe but because of his views (taken from New Statesman):

Disliking gay people is like disliking Earl Grey tea.

Being gay is "abnormal and undesirable" and not to be "celebrated".

Homophobia "describes something which simply does not exist".

Equal marriage is like incest.

The distinction between "date" and "stranger" rape - only in the latter case does the rapist deserve a harsh sentence. In the former, blame partially lies with the victim.

"Dumb" seal cubs deserve to be killed.

The list goes on and on! I would be ashamed for him to be in any way representative of me and my town.

Bluestocking · 10/05/2014 17:46

Of course the way people vote is a legitimate criterion to judge them on! Far more legitimate than whether they have a loo brush in their house or not, which seems to set 90% of MN galloping about on their high horses.
A person's political allegiances tell you almost everything you need to know about how they see the world. UKIP have done a sterling job of convincing many rather naive people that the UK would magically be transformed back into some sort of mythical interwar Eden if only we left the EU, and got rid of the wicked foreigners, and persuaded women that they'd be much better off not bothering their pretty little heads with work or politics or anything else much except winning the gold medal for jam at the village fete. I think "fuckwits" is quite useful shorthand for that kind of person.

ExcuseTypos · 10/05/2014 17:47

I know, Angry it should be against the law to do that. They are just hoping its only there for the election this month.

makeminea6x · 10/05/2014 17:48

Not only racism, oh no, also homophobic misogynists.

Aeroflotgirl · 10/05/2014 17:48

It's a democracy, people have the right to vote who they want!

Darkesteyes · 10/05/2014 17:48

its something to worry about because its not only much older people who are going to vote UKIP.
A lot of under 25s are going to as well from what I read on another thread. My 19 year old niece said she might do as well Sad

I also received a Conservative leaflet with my name and address on but DH hasn't ...unless its been held up in the post. I wont be voting for either. ive never voted Tory and never will.

ExcuseTypos · 10/05/2014 17:48

Sorry, that was to Tequila

WickedWitchoftheNorthWest · 10/05/2014 17:50

ExcuseTypos, your DD should put up her own sign just saying "I don't support UKIP but my landlord has put this horrible sign here and won't let me take it down!"

gamerchick · 10/05/2014 17:52

kinky just the men got one round here.. I've seen a few indignant wives on my Facebook. Although this a safe labour place so they might not want to waste money. It was bemusing though, usually we see no tory stuff round here.

Philoslothy · 10/05/2014 17:53

I have paid my local UKIP twat for one of their huge boards. He said to me, no need to pay , I insisted.

It now says UKIP are racist idiots. I wanted to say twats but DH would not let me. It is on my private property, I paid for the board so think I am within my rights.

Darkesteyes · 10/05/2014 17:55

ExcuseTypos that's awful... she could do what other posters have suggested. I like WickedWitchs suggestion Makes things very clear.

OddBoots · 10/05/2014 17:56

YANBU. It's upsetting because it's an unavoidable sign that fascism is becoming acceptable and even celebrated in our country. I don't know how many seemingly sensible and ordinary people have fallen for a message of hate.

Backinthering · 10/05/2014 17:57

Every day there's another UKIP scandal with yet another clown caught spouting racist, sexist, disablist shite. So bollox to this disingenuous claim that they're just another policical party.
Very grateful to be living in Scotland right now. All the UKIP billboards have been defaced, don't know who the fuck they think would vote for them here.

jellycake · 10/05/2014 17:59

Unfortunately, many of the people who are planning on voting UKIP have not read their vile policies and manifesto. They are focused on the Europe issue and believe the crap that they spout about immigrants and benefits. I have just had a huge argument with my sil about this. When she read what they think, she actually apologised.

Somepercentagenotcool · 10/05/2014 18:00

The irony of saying its wrong to judge someone who votes for UKIP!

Of course people can vote for who they like, it is a democracy. Doesn't mean I can't think they are a bell end for voting UKIP.

Hickorydickory12 · 10/05/2014 18:01

It's called democracy.
We are all entitled to vote for who we think is right. As long as people vote, that is the main thing.
And no I wouldn't vote UKIP but I agree that diversity is good and can provide an alternative for those who feel so disillusioned with the current parties.
