Does anyone say sanpro in real life or is it just on MN?

Had a conversation about MN with colleagues today and the word 'sanpro' came up. We all agreed that it comes up frequently on MN but never ever in real life. There are approximately 10 of us of differing ages and lifestyles and not one of us had ever heard it in real life.

I've never heared sanpro?

DamnBamboo · 22/04/2014 21:08

What?

Sanpro?

RayPurchase · 22/04/2014 21:09

Isn't it just an abbreviation? Like no one says "LOL" in RL.

EdithWeston · 22/04/2014 21:09

I don't think I've ever heard anyone say it out loud. But I've see it written in all sorts of places, not just MN.

Meloria · 22/04/2014 21:10

It's in this thread and also in every thread about period ever.

I'd never heard of it before MN either, took me a while to figure it out...

SystemIDUnknown · 22/04/2014 21:11

So what is it then?

MrsGeorgeMichael · 22/04/2014 21:11

was used all the time in retail (back in the 80's lol)

ShatnersBassoon · 22/04/2014 21:11

It's fanny rags.

Lightheartedindeed · 22/04/2014 21:12

I said it at the weekend and was a little bit mortified. Luckily no one picked up on it

ThursdayConsuelaLast · 22/04/2014 21:12

I have only seen it on MN, and only in the last week or so.

I guess it makes quick concise written sense. I would probably snigger at someone using it in RL.

DamnBamboo · 22/04/2014 21:12

Sanpro

Sanitary products?

Waltermittythesequel · 22/04/2014 21:14

It's fanny rags

Sanpro = sanitary products.

I'd say using that phrase in 'real speak' is akin to saying 'lol' or 'hashtag' in your sentances.... Unforgivable!

TooOldForGlitter · 22/04/2014 21:14

Sanitary protection.

fluffyraggies · 22/04/2014 21:15

Sanitary protection.

Nope, in our house, me + 3 grown up DDs it's 'period stuff' HmmGrin

MrsCakesPremonition · 22/04/2014 21:16

Sanitary Protection.
It's a bit old-fashioned and has been replaced with the even more twee "Feminine Hygiene".

It covers everything from tampons and towels, to mooncups and reusables. And all in 6 handy little letters.

CaptChaos · 22/04/2014 21:17

I say it. Mostly when I'm discussing the washable sanpro I make, use and sell.

I also call them jamrags, or did until DS decided to say that in front of my mother... it messed with her chi somewhat.

LucyBabs · 22/04/2014 21:19

Oh shit hahaha, i thought it was the name of a sanitary towel in the UK. I never knew it was an abbreviation.

Fourarmsv2 · 22/04/2014 21:22

It's just 'Always' in our house (and my mum's and sisters' houses) as that was our preferred brand before odour scenting vulva rotting thrush inducing chemicals were added!!

I switched to washables part-time after DS1 and now use a mix of disposable, reusable (both homemade and purchased but handmade) and a mooncup.

Meloria · 22/04/2014 21:22

I always think it sounds like something from the USSR. Comrade Melor has collected her monthly ration of SanPro and now she can rejoin the workforce!

I call them Ladies' Necessaries. Jim said it on Eastenders about a hundred years ago and I liked it.

EverythingIsAwesome · 22/04/2014 21:24

I would cringe if I heard anyone say it in real life.

thatstoast · 22/04/2014 21:25

Grin @ fanny rags. If I'm in the supermarket I insist on using their terminology and tell DH I need to buy some feminine hygiene products.

TooOldForGlitter · 22/04/2014 21:26

I say feminine hygiene products in the supermarket too! Grin
