Does anyone say sanpro in real life or is it just on MN?

Had a conversation about MN with colleagues today and the word 'sanpro' came up. We all agreed that it comes up frequently on MN but never ever in real life. There are approximately 10 of us of differing ages and lifestyles and not one of us had ever heard it in real life.

I've never heard it used outside of MN. I used to use the terms tampons, pads or sanitary 'stuff' but now I have no need as I only use my Mooncup. I am not on commission, honest

GreenMonth · 22/04/2014 23:52

I used to use the term at work, I worked in market research. But in RL I generally specify the type of item, pant liners or Mooncup etc.

SouthernComforts · 23/04/2014 00:05

Mummies nappies. You're kidding aren't you?

CaptChaos · 23/04/2014 00:09

Lulu a mooncup is a soft silicone cup you insert into your vagina to collect menstrual blood. You empty and reinsert it at intervals. Kind of like a reusable but safer tampon.

Handmade washable sanitary pads are lovely. Saved me from hideous monthly thrush. Sorry if TMI

Alisvolatpropiis · 23/04/2014 00:10

I have never heard that term before.

I've heard and used "lol" as a word in real vocal conversation though. In an ironic way.

Perhaps it is a generational thing.

Clagomatic5000! Genius!

Coumarin · 23/04/2014 00:27

Someone I used to know called them Lady Tissues. My sister used to call them pipes. I just call them lil lets or tampons.

The word sanpro sets me on edge when I read it. Thankfully I've never heard it actually said. It's just one of those words that make my insides do a cringe.

TillyTellTale · 23/04/2014 01:14

I call them pads, towels, tampons or by the specific brand name, e.g. Lillets. Never 'sanpro', although I sometimes use 'sanitary wear'.

Lauren83 · 23/04/2014 01:21

This reminded me of a guy at work who said the guys were here to empty draculas snack boxes (change the sanitary bins) vile but it made me laugh!

musicalendorphins2 · 23/04/2014 02:46

I write fempro on shopping lists.

AdoraBell · 23/04/2014 02:50

Only on MN.

AdoraBell · 23/04/2014 03:04

Ha ha, just read through, am genuinely PMSL at telling a teacher you need to "change ma jam rag" wish I'd been in that lesson Grin.

In RL I use their real names, tampons, liners or pads. I have two preteen DDs who don't need something else to be confused about.

As for the Dragon, is it Chinese new year soon, I have no clue tonightBlush.

MsBumble · 23/04/2014 03:54

I see a LOT of "he/she has form". Mostly in the AIBU/relationship sections. I'm a member of 2 other large forums, and have only seen it used regularly on here.

Meloria · 23/04/2014 08:09

The dragon is for St George's day which is today.

As for "mummies nappies", massive boak.

I've definitely heard people use "he's got form for that sort of thing," at work. I may have used it myself. Maybe it's a regional thing?

beccajoh · 23/04/2014 08:57

I've never heard it before. WTF is wrong with saying 'tampon'?

EBearhug · 23/04/2014 09:07

Because tampon doesn't cover sanitary pads, washable pads, mooncups, etc.

AdoraBell · 23/04/2014 12:18

Thanks Meloria, as I said, last night I had no clueBlush

Stinklebell · 23/04/2014 12:26

No, I've never used nor heard the phrase in real life.

They're just tampons here, as that's all I use

But it's just an abbreviation here isn't it? I never use the phrase DH or playdate in real life either - playdate is significantly less typing than "inviting a friend round afterschool for tea", it's easier to type Santa than Father Christmas, etc, etc

LokiDokey · 23/04/2014 12:41

Being a huge Sons of Anarchy fan Sanpro is far too similar to SAMCRO for me and whenever I see a thread with it in the title I always misread and think there is a whole thread of Jax Teller goodness only to be disappointed with tampons. Sigh.

ephemeralfairy · 23/04/2014 12:52

Fanny pads/fanny plugs.

Revolting ex of mine used to refer to tampons as 'snatch rats'. urgh.
