Does anyone say sanpro in real life or is it just on MN?

Had a conversation about MN with colleagues today and the word 'sanpro' came up. We all agreed that it comes up frequently on MN but never ever in real life. There are approximately 10 of us of differing ages and lifestyles and not one of us had ever heard it in real life.

I say it Blush

LackaDAISYcal · 22/04/2014 21:28

I mouth "tampax" whilst hoiking my bosoom and nodding in the direction of my wimmin's area in a Les Dawson stylee

Waltermittythesequel · 22/04/2014 21:32

My sisters and I have been known to call tampons Blob Stoppers but my mother got wind of it and was terribly upset.

dementedma · 22/04/2014 21:32

Fanny stuffers for tampax here!

Passmethecrisps · 22/04/2014 21:36

My cousin once asked a teacher if she could be excused from lesson in order to "change ma jam rag"

However.

To answer the question I have never heard anyone in actual real life use sanpro. But neither have I heard AF, POAS, DH etc.

I call them towels and tampons.

Nocomet · 22/04/2014 21:37

My DDad always referred to applicator tampons as "telescopic tube inserted bungs"

Since having the DDs I find that "digit inserted bungs" stay in better.

Generally in this house it's "do either of you need anything?" In a context where the DDs know what I mean.

DD1 would be far more blunt, but DD2 is a bit new to it all and still gets slightly Blush

Oldraver · 22/04/2014 21:49

I use it on MN but probably wouldn't use it in conversation

TheFarSide · 22/04/2014 21:55

I write "sanpro" on my shopping lists.

Pipbin · 22/04/2014 22:03

I have never called it Sanpro either here or in real life.
I use a moon cup, but I hate the name as it's so 'tree huggy'. So in our house it's called the clag'o'matic 5000

SaucyJack · 22/04/2014 22:06

"Mummies nappies" here.

ChazzerChaser · 22/04/2014 22:08

I don't have much cause to ever need a word but yes I've said it.

MissHobart · 22/04/2014 22:08

I just call them Tampons and Pads, out I use the exact brand name (written down) if husband is buying!

EBearhug · 22/04/2014 22:10

I mostly talk about tampons and pads outside of here, but I'm usually only ever talking about one of them, and I might be tempted to talk about sanpro if I were encompassing all possible methods.

To be honest, I'm rarely talking about any of them, because it's not something which tends to come up in conversation when you work with mostly men. I'm pretty certain none of them will have ever tried a mooncup or washable sanpro, and if they have, that's opening up a whole side of them I don't ever need to know about.

I probably last talked about it to my GP.

AwfulMaureen · 22/04/2014 22:12

I used to call them "Things" when I was a teen. I was so embarrassed to ask Mum for money for them I used to say "Er...I need to buy some Things Mum." and she always knew.

LackaDAISYcal · 22/04/2014 22:13

pmsl pipbin at clagomatic 5000 Grin

I have been known to shout on my children to fetch some for me from my bedside cabinet, so I suppose they are best known as mummy's green things here.

LackaDAISYcal · 22/04/2014 22:14

oh, and DH works in retail packaging and everyone there says sanpro; they have their own named department!

Titsalinabumsquash · 22/04/2014 22:15

I thought sanpro was a preferred brand of sanitary towels! Blush

I don't say anything... I live with 4 males who couldn't give a toss about my ladies necessities.

arselikekylie · 22/04/2014 22:19

I hate the word sanpro. If I ever leave Mumsnet it will because I can't bear seeing the word sanpro any more.

And yet I decided to read this thread Confused

fisherpricephone · 22/04/2014 22:23

At least Sanpro makes sense, I was mightily confused by AF for ages. I may have referred to DH as DH in real life though... Blush

Oh, I just noticed: a new Dragon

LuluJakey1 · 22/04/2014 22:26

Never heard the term sanpro, or mooncup- what is it? And I had no idea you could get washable, handmade ones.
Tampons - and OH knows exactly what kind. He calls them bullets because of their shape and gets a 'pick and mix' he means mixed sizes box. If I get them, I buy two boxes each of a different size for heavy and light days- always like to have lots of spares - just in case- security feeling about it. I just put them in drawers and often find boxes unopened because I'd forgotten I'd put them there. My handbags are full of them, rolling round the bottom.

Wantsunshine · 22/04/2014 22:26

Mummies nappies? Really? Why?

maudpringles · 22/04/2014 22:28

For a long time I thought it was a brand name that I just hadnt seen on the aisles.
I have never seen or heard it refered to as this.

Redcoats · 22/04/2014 22:29

It took me a minute to work out what you meant. Never heard of it IRL obviously. DH calls tampons, liners, towels Tampax even though I've told him a thousand times that Tampax is a brand name and doesn't cover all of it.

LuluJakey1 · 22/04/2014 22:34

What is the dragon thing for?

Caff2 · 22/04/2014 22:41

When I was a teenager my mum used to ask if I needed "anything for the bottom drawer of your cupboard" Grin

So they're "bottom drawers" here!
