How do you feel about friends who have had abortions? Can you maintain friendships with people who have had an abortion and no regrets?

One of my friends has stunned me, talking about another friend of ours who had considered an abortion and my friend said I'm so glad she didn't because I wouldn't have been able to stay friends with her Shock
I'm really surprised, I'm extremely pro choice and vocal about it but this doesn't bother my friend.
But what my friend doesn't know is that I also had an abortion and although I have no regrets I feel a bit strange around my friend now?

two fingers "Bumbley keeps implying that the only reason women don't have late (post 24 week) abortions is because they're not allowed to. The suggestion is that if they could, women would be flocking to have them."

Strawman argument. No one is saying they would be 'flocking' to have them. I have pointed out the quoting figures and using them to say 'women don't have late abortions for non medical reasons' doesn't make sense because they are not legal. The figures aren't there.

the body

"Instead you bang on about the dangers of hoards of women aborting full term healthy foetuses."

Another Strawman argument. Haven't said that at all. See above.

I can't change my opinion simply because you don't agree with it. If I think abortion is wrong then that is how I feel about it. People can criticise my opinion all they want but it's not going to change how I feel. Just like those who believe a woman should be allowed to terminate to term for any reason will not change their minds - no matter how disgusted other people are.

gordyslovesheep · 22/04/2014 23:06

no apology for Dawn then? for hounding her?

twofingerstoGideon · 22/04/2014 23:07

Yes, those poor women and their poor families.

And let's not forget the impact that an additional 42 million live births would have. (Although, according to some people, they could all just be adopted.)

thebodydoestricks · 22/04/2014 23:08

dawn is not a bully and you have not been bullied Bumbly just called out.

Captchaos the exemptions smack of good girl/bad girl behaviour.

Innocent verses guilty women.

Fuck the far end of fuck to that! No.

Abortion on demand for any reason deemed fit by the pregnant woman. No judging.

bumbleymummy · 22/04/2014 23:10

"they're just irresponsible sluts aren't they"

Another strawman argument. No one is saying that.

two fingers, In the countries where abortion is illegal, contraception is frequently illegal as well. Those unwanted pregnancies could have been avoided completely. Maybe it would make sense to campaign for that first ?

bumbleymummy · 22/04/2014 23:13

No gordy, There will be no apology. She has made none for hounding me or for all the personal insults.

I am the one on this side of the insults and personal attacks so I'll be the one to decide whether or not I'm being bullied thanks. :)

twofingerstoGideon · 22/04/2014 23:14

Bumbley Strawman argument etc etc.

And yet you always bring up the 'women don't have abortions post-24 weeks simply because they can't' point. So what exactly is the purpose of you consistently bringing up that argument on all the threads of this nature? (along with the 'would you terminate the life of a child who became disabled some time post-birth?' question that gets dragged out again and again... )

CaptChaos · 22/04/2014 23:14

thebody

It really is. the whole;

Raped? Well, as long as you can prove that you've been a 'good girl' you're allowed an abortion.

Consensual sex? Whore! Take your medicine. Scary stuff!

It was even alluded to on this thread....

thebodydoestricks · 22/04/2014 23:14

Any person of sense supports free wide spread access to contraception as they also do free access to abortion.

Oh hang on no that's not true. The Catholic Church?

Oh it's ok I used the word sense obviously that's two words that don't go together.

gordyslovesheep · 22/04/2014 23:18

You have issues Bumbly - in all seriousness - you are not gods messenger on earth - you can be both wrong and nasty - you owe her a sorry

you wont give one because you are unable to see your own infallibility

maybe log off the www and work on that?

twofingerstoGideon · 22/04/2014 23:20

In the countries where abortion is illegal, contraception is frequently illegal as well.

What? Like Ireland? Hmm

I agree that access to contraception may be restricted in some countries where abortion is illegal, but it is quite ridiculous of you to suggest that this is the case more often than not.

twofingerstoGideon · 22/04/2014 23:21

Yes, CaptChaos, I think the words 'live with the consequences' - even in cases of contraceptive failure - were used on this thread.

bumbleymummy · 22/04/2014 23:22

twofingers, another strawman argument.

I do not always bring up the 'women don't have abortions post-24 weeks simply because they can't' point. I have pointed out that that saying that abortions don't happen for non medical reasons (and providing figures) does not make any sense because they are not legal in the UK so of course they don't happen here and there are no figures for them.

thebodydoestricks · 22/04/2014 23:23

capt yes scary.

bumbly you do bang on again and again about late term abortions but fail to address the questions posed here

re what would you do with the thousands of unwanted babies?

How would you address the care of the thousands of women injured in back street abortions and the added care of their children if they die,

What would you do when the care system/mental health system collapses?

Please tell us!

bumbleymummy · 22/04/2014 23:23

of course they don't happen here legally*

gordyslovesheep · 22/04/2014 23:25

bumbleymummy · 22/04/2014 23:25

thebody, "you do bang on again and again about late term abortions but fail to address the questions posed here

re what would you do with the thousands of unwanted babies?"

where are these 1000s of unwanted babies from late term abortions coming from when you have said that so few women would avail of them?

CaptChaos · 22/04/2014 23:28

Arf @ gordy Grin

twofingerstoGideon · 22/04/2014 23:29

Interesting that you have chosen to conflate the two SEPARATE points/questions which thebody raised.

ravenAK · 22/04/2014 23:33

More strawmen! The buggers get everywhere, it seems...Grin.

Back later.

gordyslovesheep · 22/04/2014 23:35

that's spot on Raven

thebodydoestricks · 22/04/2014 23:55

Thousands of unwanted babies from any term pregnancy dear as you well know.

You are anti abortion for all reasons arnt you.

Tell us your solutions to my perfectly legitimate questions.

thebodydoestricks · 22/04/2014 23:57

And don't forget it was 3 questions.

You don't have a practical answer do you though bumbly

bumbleymummy · 23/04/2014 00:12

thebody - your question was "you do bang on again and again about late term abortions but fail to address the questions posed here re what would you do with the thousands of unwanted babies?"

1)prevention of unwanted pregnancy/adoption
2)don't agree with back street abortions either
3)the money currently spent on funding abortions can be invested in supporting the women who would otherwise feel that they have no alternative except to abort their pregnancy.

You won't agree with/accept those answers but I don't agree with/accept the idea of abortion to term for the reasons people have given here either.
