How do you feel about friends who have had abortions? Can you maintain friendships with people who have had an abortion and no regrets?

One of my friends has stunned me, talking about another friend of ours who had considered an abortion and my friend said I'm so glad she didn't because I wouldn't have been able to stay friends with her Shock
I'm really surprised, I'm extremely pro choice and vocal about it but this doesn't bother my friend.
But what my friend doesn't know is that I also had an abortion and although I have no regrets I feel a bit strange around my friend now?

OP posts:
Dawndonnaagain · 22/04/2014 21:37

Instead she pretended it wasn't happening and that it would go away, it didn't and eventually another friend had to tell her mum.
I suspect this would count as being unwell.

Dawndonnaagain · 22/04/2014 21:38

I have absolutely total respect with people who wouldn't countenance an abortion for themselves. That's absolutely fine.

What is not fine is legislating for other people's bodies.

Agree.

passmethewineplease · 22/04/2014 21:39

Thebody, exactly, just because there were no medical conditions in my friends case doesn't mean her choice to terminate was wrong.

She's ok now, a million miles away from that awful man, like I said before she is a strong woman and I'm proud to say she's my best friend. Grin

passmethewineplease · 22/04/2014 21:40

Probably dawn, we were still in school at the time, she was terrified.

Dawndonnaagain · 22/04/2014 21:45

Poor thing. passme I'm glad she's managed to move on and stay strong. You must be a good friend, too.

bumbleymummy · 22/04/2014 21:47

No Janine, clearly you don't. Neither does body.

candy, We were talking about late term abortions that would be able to survive outside a woman.

"the stats these are overwhelmingly for medical reasons"

Because it is restricted after 24 weeks. Why are so many of you struggling with this. You are not going to see figures for reasons that aren't currently legal Hmm

LtEVe - but you've just admitted that you don't have the statistical facts. So you can't rely on them. In any case, one would be one too many. Most people would agree with that.

Garlic, you still didn't answer the question. Have a nice night,

the body, I don't accuse people of bullying for expressing their opinions if that what you are trying to suggest. Nor do I tell people not to post because I don't agree with their opinion. You are perfectly entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. Both of us are entitled to express our opinions and we don't have to agree with each other. We just shouldn't resort to petty insults and personal attacks. It's easy enough for some to manage.

thebodydoestricks · 22/04/2014 21:48

passmee yes good on you both.

bumbleymummy · 22/04/2014 21:51

passme, how awful that your friend had to suffer abuse and a late term abortion. I'm glad that she is doing much better.

JanineStHubbins · 22/04/2014 21:53

Bumbley

This is what you said about TheBaby's situation in the other thread (characterised by the usual obfuscation):

Re baby, I did address that (indirectly) in my post about what I believe. I think life starts before birth therefore in the same way as you think that a baby who is born disabled has the right not to be killed, I think a disabled foetus has a right not to be killed.

At least, that's all I could find, given that you had a number of posts deleted.

If that's in any way inaccurate, then like I said, I'd love to read a clarification.

Birdinthebush · 22/04/2014 21:56

If have read this in another article and it nicely some a up my prochoice views.

If we truly want to preserve a woman’s right to choose what to do with her body, we need to accept that sometimes women will abort for reasons we might not agree with. Really, being pro-choice doesn’t mean thinking every abortion is a good idea. It means realizing that the only person who should truly have the right to determine whether it’s a good idea is the mother, and protecting her rights means allowing her to make decisions we might not necessarily support.

thebodydoestricks · 22/04/2014 21:57

bumbly you are obsessed with late term abortions.

It's not healthy. It's obsessive and really a hiding to nothing

If it was freely available here up to term I very much dought there would be queues of heavily pregnant women asking for abortions in a whim.

Seriously honestly do you?

Apart from the one so rare she was featured in the paper you posted.

SabrinaMulhollandJjones · 22/04/2014 21:58

Yes, Janine, you're spot on. I was on that thread too. Baby was very upset by bumbley's posts- she pm'd me to thank me for sticking up for her.

This mysterious 'last post' of bumbley's which apparently made everything ok.... didn't.

thebodydoestricks · 22/04/2014 21:59

And you would have made passmes 15 year old friend carry her baby to term as that's what you believe is right so save the sympathy please.

thebodydoestricks · 22/04/2014 22:02

Birdinthebush yes that's spot on.

Yep me too Sabrina

Dawndonnaagain · 22/04/2014 22:09

Funny that Sabrina, Janine thebody you all remember it the way I do.

bumbleymummy · 22/04/2014 22:12

Janine, no, that wasn't it. I only had 3 posts deleted on that thread (far less than some other people) and I know what they were for and my post to Baby wasn't one one of them. (That wasn't a post to baby which was what you went to look for)

I'm pretty sure that it's considered poor form to post quotes from other threads btw. Of course, because it's me, no one else is going to call you on it. Hey ho.

Bird, the problem is that we're talking about what many people consider to be a life. Most people would not sit back and accept a woman ending the life of her born child - ending the life of a foetus would feel no different to someone who identifies as pro-life.

the body, not obsessed. Sadly having to address the issue because so many people seem to think that it should be allowed. It would be nice if that wasn't the case. Still, it is nice to see that most people disagree with that position.

LineRunner · 22/04/2014 22:13

Exactly, Dawn.

bumbleymummy · 22/04/2014 22:15

" save the sympathy please."

I should have put money on someone saying that. If I'd said nothing I would have been accused of being insensitive and unsympathetic (and probably asked to stop posting by a certain poster Hmm )

Rock hard place

Dawndonnaagain · 22/04/2014 22:15

I had loads deleted. All of them quoting Bumbly Grin

Dawndonnaagain · 22/04/2014 22:16

I asked her to stop on that one too, if I recall.
She didn't.

ravenAK · 22/04/2014 22:20

Yep, another 6 pages of derailment & dishonestly from bumbley.

Happens every time. This thread will also hit 1000 posts.

Pigeon chess.

CaptChaos · 22/04/2014 22:20

I remember Dawn I also remember which post they all quoted. So in reality you only had one post deleted, you just had it deleted from every page.

What you did was important.

Dawndonnaagain · 22/04/2014 22:23

Aww, thanks Capt. Nice to know I'm not really a bully!
Blush

bumbleymummy · 22/04/2014 22:25

All of them for bulllying Dawn. What a thing to be proud of. Were you a bully in school as well?

Yes, you did try to police that thread too. It didn't work there just as it didn't work here. Not sure why you think you have the right to tell people what they can and can't post. You really need to get over yourself.

ravenAK, hardly. I'm not the one derailing and dragging over posts from other threads. Never mind being obsessed with late term abortions - some people seem obsessed with me!

Dawndonnaagain · 22/04/2014 22:27

erm...Not sure why you think you have the right to tell people what they can and can't post. You really need to get over yourself.
