Took dd to MacDonalds today. For us this is a holiday treat as we enjoy the odd burger, although dd is really just lured by the plastic tat in the happy meal TBH. She is slim and eats normally rest of time.

But, bloody hell, the people in there were beyond belief really. Makes me realize how other families actually live and why the health of the country is as it is.

Family 1- all huge, and the youngest dd (aged about 9) was definitely the fattest and not only that she was eating a full sized meal, and worst of all was wearing a full red velour lipsy tracksuit with gold embroidery!!!!!

Family 2- Two boys with their dad, all sat vacantly staring at their food and munching away. First boy opens his (supersize) fries and says "wheres the salt?" Dad doesn't say anything, just fishes in the papers on his tray and passes packet of salt to child. The chips are ALREADY covered in far too much salt, especially for kids, and if the child asks for salt this makes me think this is a regular thing for him, to cover his food in salt.

Don't these people take any responsibility for their health AT ALL?

I think the track suit is irrelevant, but I agree that I can't help hoiking up my judgypants when I see the other two things either...

ImSoOverIt · 13/04/2014 08:00

It's how the other half eat dear! Really I think you probably have a limited cross section of society in there, but you can't really talk if you went there!

And a red velour track suit might be naff, but it is hardly child abuse!

slartybartfast · 13/04/2014 08:02

perhaps this was their family treat too?

i always used to do the same, a macdonalds as a treat in the holidays.

and salt, well

dd covers everything in ketchup.

burgercat · 13/04/2014 08:03

Grin, the tracksuit was just mentioned for fun! She did look a sight though.

A 9 year old was eating a full- size meal?? Shock horror! It's a free country- people can do what they like. Not everyone can be perfect.

slartybartfast · 13/04/2014 08:04

i have judged, at a family zoo, indoor play area, a dad, with his lap top! i tutted away - judging -

SusannahReid · 13/04/2014 08:05

Please! Don't "hoik" your "judgey pants" because it makes you sounds like an affected sap. Agree with slarty, perhaps this was their treat. Could you really hear what they were saying? Were your children wearing Joules?

EverythingIsAwesome · 13/04/2014 08:05

Maybe that was their holiday treat too? Overweight people should never have any sort of treat? That's me told then Grin

WorraLiberty · 13/04/2014 08:06

I'm trying to decide what's saddest...the fact you thought this was worthy of a thread, or the fact you spent the first paragraph justifying buying your child a burger.

Fuck it, I'll go with the latter.

TheCountessOlenska · 13/04/2014 08:06

The only person I judge when I'm in a Macdonalds is myself tbh

Goodadvice1980 · 13/04/2014 08:06

A Lipsy tracksuit - oh the humanity!!

p.s.
I do agree that the excess salt was bad though!

EverythingIsAwesome · 13/04/2014 08:06

On a serious note, this is what makes me ashamed to take my kids out to eat, they are all fine but I am overweight and I just know I am being judged by others.

StillaChocoholic · 13/04/2014 08:07

It's McDonald's not mac.
Take your judgey pants off, you know nothing about how these people live and eat on a day to day basis and making fun of what a little girl is wearing is nasty.

Sirzy · 13/04/2014 08:08

I don't think an eating an adult meal at aged 9 (ish) is really an issue at all.

It could well have been as much a treat for them as it was for your dd

ShatnersBassoon · 13/04/2014 08:08

I bet they knew they were in Mcdonald's though.

ivykaty44 · 13/04/2014 08:09

You ate in McDonalds as a treat..? It is the sort of place you would go if you are hungry and no where else is open

Think Calais on a Sunday night where 35 French working week doesn't stretch to Sunday evening, and even then I ate in buffalow grill - which was probably worse

Yabu for regarding this mussh as a treat regardless of health issues

Legologgo · 13/04/2014 08:10

poor people eating out as a treat?
No money so eat macdonalds

OBVIOUSLY

HoneyDragon · 13/04/2014 08:11

AIBU to wear my HUGE judgey pants on Mumsnet?

But, bloody hell, the people posting on here are beyond belief really. Makes me realize how other people actually think and why the state of the country is as it is.

Don't people take responsibility for their attitudes at all?

why did you name change for this one op?

burgercat · 13/04/2014 08:11

Well, I think a burger as a treat is OK if you are generally healthy and slim. Taking kids who are already overweight ( and they didn't get fat by eating vegetables did they?) is dubious. We could all imagine that maybe they were in there as a treat for doing so well on their healthy eating program, and judge less, but I think we all know this is highly unlikely.

OP posts:
WorraLiberty · 13/04/2014 08:12

McDonalds is a treat for me iveykaty, surely you understand other people like it even if you don't?

Wait, I've just thought of something sadder than the OP starting this thread and justifying buying her child a burger...she's actually name changed for this Grin

I'm thinking a backbone needs to be grown here...

noblegiraffe · 13/04/2014 08:12

McDonalds don't do supersize portions in the UK.

WorraLiberty · 13/04/2014 08:13

Sorry, don't know where the errant 'e' came from Blush

MeadowHeartshimmertheFairy · 13/04/2014 08:13

What worra said

slartybartfast · 13/04/2014 08:13

fat people should eat fruit only op?

Pleasejustgo · 13/04/2014 08:13

McDonalds is not a treat it's the very very last bastion of hangover remedies.
