Took dd to MacDonalds today. For us this is a holiday treat as we enjoy the odd burger, although dd is really just lured by the plastic tat in the happy meal TBH. She is slim and eats normally rest of time.

But, bloody hell, the people in there were beyond belief really. Makes me realize how other families actually live and why the health of the country is as it is.

Family 1- all huge, and the youngest dd (aged about 9) was definitely the fattest and not only that she was eating a full sized meal, and worst of all was wearing a full red velour lipsy tracksuit with gold embroidery!!!!!

Family 2- Two boys with their dad, all sat vacantly staring at their food and munching away. First boy opens his (supersize) fries and says "wheres the salt?" Dad doesn't say anything, just fishes in the papers on his tray and passes packet of salt to child. The chips are ALREADY covered in far too much salt, especially for kids, and if the child asks for salt this makes me think this is a regular thing for him, to cover his food in salt.

Don't these people take any responsibility for their health AT ALL?

This is what MN need to sort out - name changing just to be spineless.

I expect the OP will slip back into a 'nicey nicey' regular name later and be all sweetness and light to everyone.

my kids like McD's as they get to play with the sauce dispensers and you get to fill up your own wee cup with ketchup/barbecue sauce. They can then get a refill when they have licked the cup clean! I let them get a meal too of course

Be careful with judging fat kids. My DD is overweight - this is because of the steroids she took for 3 years during her chemotherapy for leukaemia. It's not uncommon for cancer kids to carry extra weight because of this, and after their hair grows back, people can't 'tell' why. I am overweight due to eating a shit diet and comfort eating through the 3 years of miserable hell of her having cancer. I am trying to deal with it. Many parents develop crutches to get through it.

I don't go to Mcdonald's, but just wanted to point out you never know what is going on beneath the surface and be very careful before you start to judge things like weight.

Those people who cope by using drugs, or drinking, or smoking heavily don't have to wear it like a badge for the world to see.

Jesus, what horrible, judgemental, holier than thou attitudes some of you have. Oh to live in your perfect life where no mistakes are ever made. Why don't you focus on your own family and teach your daughter to have a more compassionate attitude than her mother and stop judging others.

my salted McD's chips are also found in Scotland - maybe they are scared to de-salt us!

I'm judging you for calling it a treat! A treat is something nice, McDonalds is not nice Wink

DS1 eats an adult portion at McDonald's - he is 7. He is also fit as a lop. Does that make it Ok?

And I always take a laptop, or a pile of marking to soft play. I have sat and marked at a birthday party before. It is that or give up sleep.

I am overweight, my son is 4, and "perfectly proportioned" according to health visitor. He is active and has a very healthy diet.

Yesterday, we had a day out, we went to KFC then afterwards we went to McDonalds to get a creme egg McFlurry.

To look at me, you'd think i ate like that all the time, whereas i do that once every few months, so stop being such a smug cow and thinking you can tell everything about a family just by looking at them. And to tear into a nine year old because of what she was wearing? Grow up!

You don't even have enough of a backbone to use your real name, and your story now has holes in it.... come on!

O good, another thread about 'if I don't like something no one else can'.

Always good to be exposed to the narcissism and solipsism of some posters.

Op, I have seen much worse in my two previous local Maccy Ds.

In fact, I used to see much, much worse on the surrounding streets and the local schools etc. So I can't really get het up about a family who are feeding their children and even spending money on fancy clothes for them.

What I do find very depressing is a knee jerk reaction to sneer and mock people who are living lives you deem to be less worthy than your own. Because that is your reaction - rather than feeling sorrow and wondering what can be done to help people make better choices in their lives - I conclude this is just about trying to make you feel better about your own life by putting others down.

MD's don't do packets of salt ...that's KFC :)

Spero · 13/04/2014 08:52

Good point. I don't recall ever getting a packet of salt in McDs. Chips are already salted aren't they? They are fond of little tubs of ketchup etc.

I think op is just bored and trying to provoke a reaction.

gordy KFC give you salt AND if you ask them they give you proper full fat mayo sachets. I was v. Happy at this discovery yesterday.

Well, I did ask if I was unreasonable to wear my judgypants? A lot of you say yes I am. Fair enough.

I don't believe those that assume medical conditions when they see a fat family feeding their child a large meal in McDonalds though.

Do none of you ever judge people? Ever?
I'm not defending the op but does everyone else never judge someone based on the way they dress or behave, even a little bit?

Report
clippityclop · 13/04/2014 08:57

So OP, keep out of McD in future!

Ledkr · 13/04/2014 08:57

honey I know! I may destroy it.

I'm off to watch the footy today with a pint and some crisps!
I'm dumping my dds off with their granny.
Afterwards we are getting a KFC!

I'm not a skinny woman, should I change my plans lest I be judged?

My dds however are wirey little birds so maybe I'm safe enough.

I judge people all the time. I don't broadcast my more unpleasant thoughts though, and it doesn't make me feel like a good person. I wouldn't make shit up to rile strangers either.

I agree that it is vanishingly unlikely that every fat person eating junk food is fat because of some medical condition over which they have no control.

I agree it is far more likely to be due to bad choices about food and exercise.

I agree that it is sad for children to be brought up with parents modeling poor behaviour and bad choices.

What I don't agree with however is people who chose to point and giggle at those they deem 'lesser' without making any effort to understand why people may not have other choices in their lives.

If you think you are starting a light hearted whimsical little thread then you are wrong. If you think you are making a serious social point worthy of discussion, could you make it in a less offensive and unpleasant way.

I think you can ask for salt packets.at the counter now, and we usually have to ask for unsalted fries if we have the 2 year old with us .
You meed to learn some manners anyway OP, it's rude to stare and watch people eat, maybe if you talk to your child you'll stop injuring yourself on your huge knickers...

Report
treaclesoda · 13/04/2014 09:01

oh, McDs definitely do packets of salt here. I don't think the chips come with salt already on them because last time Jobs was there they didn't give me the salt sachet and I tasted the chips and there was definitely no salt on them so I had to go back and ask for some as they keep it behind the counter.
