Here we go! Thread five! Thread four filled in one month!

Here is a link to thread four & you can work back from there.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2017939-Nest-of-Vapers-we-continue-to-not-BU-to-carry-on-vaping?pg=1

We are all always happy to answer any question. No question is too daft or unreasonable! We all know what a minefield of terminology it is when you first take up vaping.

Here is Allergic's great summary for anyone who is starting vaping:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

Garlic have you had a good look on Myepack. They've got some reductions at the moment.

myepack.co.uk/kits.html

I've gone from using an Ego C Twist to using the new shiny spinner which is similar after seeing it appear on here so many times! It really is worth the money, less time spent charging and lasts me all day easily. Its permanently stuck to my mouth some days Blush

myepack.co.uk/vision-spinner-1300-mah.html

I'm using the CE 5 clearo which i got from fasttech on mine with the wickless coil things and it fits together perfectly but i'm tempted to try the iclear 30 which is pricier.

I was a minimum 20-30 a day rollie person for 27 years but since vaping i havent touched a cigarette for nearly 18 months Smile

Cantabile · 19/04/2014 17:43

All flavoured juices will need to steep to give the various components time to mix properly and the flavour to mature; it's a bit like a stew or bolognese or chili - always better the next day! Some juices will have steeped in transit (anything from FastTech I think?). Lots of vape sites mix orders as they come in, and that often means that once you get it, ideally you should put it away for a couple of weeks. I think Joose Juice recommend you steep. DarkStar had dates on the labels of when the juice was mixed and said you should leave it until 2 weeks after that date.

Steeping just means leaving it somewhere dark and warm, giving it a daily shake.

Some liquids vape fine when you get them, but if you get one which doesn't produce much vapour or much flavour, try putting it away for a week. I have found that some flavours are vastly improved after a time.

Welcome Garlic! I was a 40-50 a dayer (oh the shame!). My first vapestick was an Ego C twist (1000mAh), which is still going strong after 6 months. I rapidly got a spare. And then another. And another. And then I got a few more, and then a Rainbow Vision Spinner, and a few days ago an MVP which I am a bit scared to use Grin.

I use quite a lot of the GS-H2s that Plenty links to, but my favourite clearos so far are iClear 16s.

I started with a tobacco flavour juice, but wanted something fresher, so tried apple and stuck to that for a few months. Then went on to gingerbread and then butterscotch, which is my vape of choice atm (has to, I've got quite a lot of it!). I have flirted with lots of silly flavours - Christmas Pudding, Mulled Wine, also cheesecake, marshmallow, liquorice, banana etc - but few of them have done it for me.

As I was such a heavy smoker, I started at 18mg nicotine strength, thinking I'd probably want 24mg, but have stuck with 18. My brother uses 24mg, usually coffee or apple. DH uses a cigalike. None of us want to give up completely, but I am pretty sure I shall; though I'm not trying I'm down to 5 or 6 a day now, mainly in the morning until I pick up my vapestick, and then I don't really bother with them again.

Cantabile · 19/04/2014 17:50

Oh! And tank crackers! Many sites will warn you if they've got a tank cracker. They're often the spicy ones so I found cinnamon was one, though gingerbread doesn't seem to be Confused. I mix the cinnamon with apple, and it's fine then.

Don't be scared of mixing flavours. I don't mean mixing from scratch, but mixing ready mades you've got, but which may be not quite what you wanted. You may find that addition of a few drops of something else in the tank makes all the difference, or doing half and half etc. for instance, I thought grapefruit was vile, but I added caramel (which was too sweet) and it became vapable, which saved me losing 10mls worth altogether. Not my fave, but good in a pinch.

Allergictoironing · 19/04/2014 17:52

Garlic the trick isn't to think of how many cigarettes you HAVE smoked that day, but how many you HAVEN'T. 3 packs of cigarettes (depending on the brand) is the equivalent to a starter kit including about a week's worth of liquid (vaping full time). If you can use your vape-stick to cut down by 8 cigs a day then a starter kit will have paid for itself within a fortnight Grin

member · 19/04/2014 17:53

Well, since my post this morning, I've bought a double starter kit eGo which has two batteries/2 clearos/usb cable & adapter plug. I went to a stall in the market which I gather can be a no no, but in this case, the seller also has a bricks & mortar shop in a town about 15 miles away.

The great thing is that you can try (they have disposable plastic mouthpieces they put over the clearo mouthpiece). I've got Hanseng Gold & silver liquid which is supposed to be near B&H. I also tried one that was supposed to be like Lambert & Butler, one that he termed Eau de tobacco (but that wasn't the proper name) and blueberry. I was trying to replicate Embassy No1 & will do some more research as not sure the B&H alikey is near enough for me.

The selling man had some whoopy doopy thing that had a double coil(I think, double something) that you could increase the vapour/hit. 3 other vaping customers came when I was there from a woman vaping golden virginia flavour, a man who liked menthol & a man who was currently on pineapple but looking for a different flavour.

Got a battery charging & filled my clearomisers...

member · 19/04/2014 17:54

Oh, & I'm on 18mg as a 20 a day person.

thingymibob · 19/04/2014 18:45

I've just received my first fast tech order. I got a rainbow evod twist, evod vv blister pack and a plain evod blister pack

The rainbow and the plain ones are working and charging fine

The vv isn't doing anything. If I press the button it just flashes. If I plug it into a charger, the light on charger goes out. Have tried pressing button five times - all that happens is button flashes

Have I got a dud? Or am I missing something I need to do??

Allergictoironing · 19/04/2014 19:37

Nice one member Smile. Those disposable mouthpieces are great aren't they? I know someone who always uses one when they vape, he just likes that as a set up.

See if your trqader has any tobacco flavours with "Red" as the main name, I gather these are all pretty similar whatever brand & that's what I'm vaping for tobacco flavour. 18mg is generally considered to be about right for a 20 a day person, with the assumption that on average you would use about 20ml of liquid a week if it replaces all cigarettes.

thingymibob · 19/04/2014 19:52

And now the plain one isn't working all the time. Give it a tap, shake or unscrew/screw it back together and it works for a short time

Looks like both will have to go back :( Really liked the look of them too

Cantabile · 19/04/2014 19:53

Thingymibob, I haven't come across that particular problem, and a quick google doesn't come up with that exact thing with the charger, but try a this fix. Do you see the little plate in the centre inside the top of the battery (the end you screw into the charger)? It can get pushed down so it doesn't make a connection. You need to very very carefully and gently prise it up a tiny bit. Go round the perimeter very very gently pushing it up. Use a cocktail stick or pin or something. But be gentle, and just do it a tiny bit at a time. Did I mention that you should be gentle? Grin

I am assuming that your charger works with the other batteries, so that's OK, and that the clearo on the VV works on other batteries.

Cantabile · 19/04/2014 20:01

Oh, cross post. Oh dear. Not sure quite what's going on.

thingymibob · 19/04/2014 20:03

I've tried the pin thing - no joy

chargers work with all my originals but not this one

Really disappointed,

Cantabile · 19/04/2014 20:08

Thingymibob, re your charger, my brother says try a different port for the charger as different ports can draw a different charge so it will depend how much charge each battery draws. That might work.

If you can't get the batteries working consistently, you can raise a ticket with FastTech; I gather they're quite good.

GarlicAprilShowers · 19/04/2014 20:25

If you can use your vape-stick to cut down by 8 cigs a day then a starter kit will have paid for itself within a fortnight

Oh, that's a helpful thought! The shop near me has a website. Is this what I should be buying, or do I need to get stuck in & learn how to build the damn things? No point buying a starter kit if it's going to as disappointing as the ones I've got ...

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 19/04/2014 20:32

Evening all Smile

I just got my vamo through from FT! It's very very shiney and beautiful (but my gs-h2 looks a bit twatty on it). I have it in mini mode as I am still waiting for my big batteries. I have a question for any vamo users on the thread - I think there are a couple of you here? Does the vamo come out 'hotter' than an mvp on the same settings? I am using a 1.9 ohm clearo, on the mvp I had it at 3.7 volts but on the vamo I have had to turn it down to 3.1 v to stop it burning Confused

thingy, sorry you're having bad luck with your batteries - you have reminded me it's good to test them when you get them though - I also ordered a couple of those little chubby 1300 mah egos and a twist for dh. I shall test them all thoroughly over the next day or so.

It's been a busy day on this thread. I shall scroll back and read. Welcome to the new vapers on the thread Flowers

MaggieMcGill · 19/04/2014 20:34

Thingy, do they rattle when you shake them? If so something is broken inside and they are probably duff. I've bought several batteries from FT before and thankfully they have all been ok but I've bought a few from ebay which were dodgy. Raise a ticket, I've found them to be really helpful in the past.

magimedi · 19/04/2014 20:38

Garlic I think that kit is quite pricy.

Have a look at this (and I think it has a better battery)

Fucking DH is a git! Earlier he swiped my new chubby battery instead of his and now, having spent ages farting around with the menus and setting up my vamo, he has walked off with it instead of setting his own up! Easter Angry I think I might have to 'test' his new ego twist.

Allergictoironing · 19/04/2014 20:47

See Plenty that's what happens if you have cool plain colours for your kit. If you'd gone for a really girly pink or mauve, or a glitzy rainbow, he wouldn't be seen dead with it Grin

Lora1982 · 19/04/2014 21:01

Can someone explain what the pass throughs are? Are they just chargers?

Just ordered new batteries new clearo things and a few flavours, excited to try skittles flavour. Am I best to steep all the flavours? Ive only ever just shuvved it in and waited about an hr

GarlicAprilShowers · 19/04/2014 21:03

Riiight ... I've put the starter kit you recommended in a cart, magi. Thanks. It has a sort of teat-shaped tip. Can you get something to fit over it, make it more cigarette-shaped?

Also, should I buy the 1100mah battery now? It comes with a 900. What's the difference?

Thanks for all your patience :)

MaggieMcGill · 19/04/2014 21:06

Garlic have a look at the at-ecigs website. They are having a closing down sale at the moment and they have starter kits. I wouldn't worry to much about building at the moment, see if you like it first.

MaggieMcGill · 19/04/2014 21:10

at ecigs

MaggieMcGill · 19/04/2014 21:11

Hahaha! woohoo! Just done my very first mumsnet link Grin
