Here we go! Thread five! Thread four filled in one month!

Here is a link to thread four & you can work back from there.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2017939-Nest-of-Vapers-we-continue-to-not-BU-to-carry-on-vaping?pg=1

We are all always happy to answer any question. No question is too daft or unreasonable! We all know what a minefield of terminology it is when you first take up vaping.

Here is Allergic's great summary for anyone who is starting vaping:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

I've noticed that when I press both of the buttons on my MVP together and it gives you the ohm reading from whatever coil you have attached, it then seems to show a suggested voltage - certainly it shows a voltage that doesn't necessarily match what I've set the voltage to. Is this a handy feature of the MVP or have I got it all wrong?

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 17/04/2014 19:11

Ohms on mines is 2.0 and W is set to 8 and V is set to 4.6. No idea if that is where it is best though but it vapes well at that.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 17/04/2014 19:14

Does it not just show the voltage it's set at? Confused I didn't realise that but just checked and it does! The V it has suggested for me seems okay but I prefer it higher...

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 17/04/2014 19:29

Cantabile, you're dead right about cig-alikes. I tried one too back before I got an ego and tank and for all their faults, they are a 'comfortable' place for a smoker to start. It's hard to say but I wonder if I would have tried vaping 'properly' if I hadn't tried that first and seen the possibilities. has a very good video on this, and also a good suggestion for a disposable cig-alike that's not too bad at all (though probably still very expensive). I have also heard good things about Vype disposables.

With your MVP, I would start at 3.7 v (which is the standard voltage on an ego) and crank it up a bit at a time until it tastes burnt, then turn it down a bit. I haven't played with VW at all so can't advise on that. It's all just numbers, VW just does the ohm's law calculation for you. I usually use a 1.8 ohm coil and don't really turn it up past 3.7 volts until it's on its way out. I don't think I've ever gone above 4 volts. VV is a bit wasted on me, I just love the mvp for its battery life and its built in ohms reader. Bear in mind that there's a bit of a pay-off - the more power you stick through it, the quicker the battery runs down - not that that matters too much with 2600 mah Grin

Shonajay · 17/04/2014 19:34

I've got to stop shopping, loving my MVP2 , got a couple of pen types from e wizard in case everything breaks at once. Paranoid? Moi?!

Got a pic of the refreshers ones very nice and sherberty made by Trip Hammer. Pic of my goodies below now please tell me to STOP! And what of these ohms things? :::::sob::::::! X

Raia, that number is somehow related to how much power is left in the battery. I think it starts at about 4. something and goes down to about 3.5 before it needs charging. The controls override that voltage anyway and the button colour is an easier indication - you can safely ignore it. The puff counter seems a bit superfluous too. What I really want is a thing which goes beep or flashes after about 7 minutes so I know when I've had a 'fag break'.

Allergictoironing · 17/04/2014 19:36

Damn & blast - I wrote a post, hit "post", and it didn't!

Has anyone here used Intellicig, either the cigalike or the vv battery & tank type?

MaggieMcGill · 17/04/2014 19:47

Raia I was wondering that too but I think when you press the two buttons down the U reading thing is what you have left in your battery. Fully charged it should read 4.2. Mine was still at green today but was reading 3.4. The thing I read said not to let it go below 3 to keep it in tip top condition??? I popped mine on charge and it went back up to 4.2 when fully charged.

MaggieMcGill · 17/04/2014 19:51

Hahaha! Looking good Shona Grin

MaggieMcGill · 17/04/2014 19:59

Does anyone stick to the Ohms, volts chart thing? I've been having a look at it but I think my taste buds must be goosed. My twists were never below 4.8v but seemingly this is not right Confused

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 17/04/2014 20:04

You don't need to know much about ohms, shona -

Lower ohms = hotter coil = more vapour
Higher volts = hotter coil = more vapour

Watts settings work out the relationship between ohms and voltage for you, so -

Higher watts = hotter coil = more vapour

The basic setup of ego battery and standard coil is 3.7 volts and 2.4 ohms.

explains ohm's law for vapers a bit more.
PlentyOfPubeGardens · 17/04/2014 20:07

Do you know what resistance (ohms) coils you are using Maggie? If it's working for you, you're doing it right Smile

MaggieMcGill · 17/04/2014 20:11

Plenty am I correct in thinking that you can only work one thing at a time with the mvp? So if you have just set your vv settings it does not matter what you have the vw set to?

MaggieMcGill · 17/04/2014 20:15

It varies between 1.8 and 2.4 but I was experimenting with the chart last night and it got me wondering if I'm missing something.

MaggieMcGill · 17/04/2014 20:18

Shona I am loving your first aid kit Grin

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 17/04/2014 20:21

sorry haven't a scooby Grin

There are a lot of ohm's law charts for vapers like this one, so although I have never played with the wattage settings on my mvp, I can tell you that if you were using a standard ego battery (3.7 volts) with a standard coil (2.4 ohms) the wattage would be 5.7 watts.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 17/04/2014 20:24

If it doesn't taste burnt I wouldn't worry.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 17/04/2014 20:27

Do you think the twist batteries are accurate? DH has one on order from the slow site.

MaggieMcGill · 17/04/2014 20:41

I've only ever used them before, different versions tho. evod, smok and ego. I still have my smok one that I bought around November and it's still going strong. Always had them turned up as far as they could go.

MaggieMcGill · 17/04/2014 20:59

I really need to sort my drawer out.

The top drawer is liquids, I lined it with a rubble sack to keep the light out.

Cantabile · 17/04/2014 21:51

Easter Envy I can't post pics from this device, it's too old.

Thanks all. I want to get to grips with the theory just a bit more before I start using the mvp properly but on a small try it will become my fave after my Rainbow spinner.

I tend to keep my VVs around 3.7, but sometimes twist them about a bit if I'm not getting a good vape (for me that's flavour as opposed to vapour which I'm not quite so bothered about). If that doesn't improve it, then I assume that I really should have cleaned my clearo a day ago!

I also had some cheap clearos arrive today. I've had a good try of some of the Dark Star flavours I got aaaaaaages ago but which were supposed to steep for a couple of weeks (and then I forgot about them, and then I didn't have any spare clearos to try them in and then blah blah blah). Two clearo leaked like mad. One's a dud. So two of the five work; pay peanuts you get crap. Better to get the GS-H2s that Plenty links to.

Anyway, Raspberry Candy is nice. A light flavour, definitely raspberryish with some tartness.

Cantabile · 17/04/2014 21:53

Maggie, my drawers look like that too!

Cantabile · 17/04/2014 21:54

Truth to tell, my whole house looks like Easter Grin
