Here we go! Thread five! Thread four filled in one month!

Here is a link to thread four & you can work back from there.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/2017939-Nest-of-Vapers-we-continue-to-not-BU-to-carry-on-vaping?pg=1

We are all always happy to answer any question. No question is too daft or unreasonable! We all know what a minefield of terminology it is when you first take up vaping.

Here is Allergic's great summary for anyone who is starting vaping:

""A very simple guide for those who have been a bit overwhelmed by all the variety discussed on this thread. Experienced vapers either ignore, or check for errors please!

There can be a trade off to be considered around cost, variety, overall experience and hassle.

The cigalike ones are the simplest to deal with in that you just unscrew one cart & screw in another. These tend to be the type that you can buy at the local market or shopping centre for a comparatively cheap initial purchase, but the carts they use can be very expensive and tend to be limited in flavours/strengths depending on brand. They can be useful in that they are small, look the most like "real" cigs, and are the most hassle-free, but the experience really isn't as good as other methods and the cost is higher.

The next step is to have a battery and disposable tank type system (CE4 in my case) where you buy the different liquids and fill the tank yourself. The batteries last a few months to a year (about the same or a little longer than the cigalikes) and the tanks (clearomisers) last anything from a couple of weeks to a couple of months - this can be extended by cleaning, but the coils inside do eventually pack in. This method is much cheaper and gives a much more satisfying experience, but has the added faff of unscrewing and topping up the tank rather than just chucking the

You can then go further and use tanks that have replaceable wicks & coils, can be stripped down & "serviced" etc. There's also a lot of variety and complexity available in the overall set-up e.g. variable voltage batteries. All these add to the hassle factor but allow the overall experience to be much better fine tuned to suit the vaper. Cost is a moot point here - you will save money using serviceable tanks, but people that get really into this can spend a fair bit on shiney new toys!

When it comes to the "juice" or liquid there's a hell of a lot of different things to consider - nicotine strength, flavour, the balance of "throat hit" vs vapour etc. But basically there are 3 ways to get the right juice which are buy ready made from a big importer (limited options), buy made to order from a smaller supplier (needs to steep for a few days), or buy the makings & mix your own (hassle, mess & steeping). These have been ordered from minimum hassle/maximum price to maximum hassle/minimum cost.

I'm a naturally lazy person and comparatively new to vaping, so I have a battery & disposable tank system, and am currently buying imported juice (Hangsen pineapple and Smartjuice Red tobacco flavour) which I know has steeped plenty while being shipped over and both brands have very good quality control. I will probably go directly to mostly mixing my own once I get a bit more money at the end of the month to buy all the bits & base liquids, though will probably continue buying the Smartjuice tobacco flavour because I like it so much! I doubt I will go down the road of serviceable tanks unless I get a nice glass one eventually."

Thank you Maggie and Plenty for clearing up my MVP volt reading confusion! Thanks

Dwerf · 17/04/2014 23:14

I fell off the wagon again. But today I also bought cognac liquid. Oh hello. It's rather nice.

Shonajay · 18/04/2014 12:09

Thanks again pubgardens- and maggie I got biscuits in it but now it's so useful for my life saving! Four weeks tomorrow! X

Shonajay · 18/04/2014 13:03

Omg just had a horrible vaping experience. Cinnamon bread- sounded lovely but no, yuk yuk yuk! Drained it and have put in banana cream (I don't like bananas but love it vaping) and its much better now.

Also would it be over the top to buy a rainbow spinner? They're so pretty, then I'd have three back ups which would be safe, right? X

BlueSkyCrystal · 18/04/2014 13:09

It is never a bad idea to buy a rainbow spinner. I have two. So does Allergic IIRC Grin

It can be your treat for a cig-free month!

MaggieMcGill · 18/04/2014 13:18

Don't worry about having a blip Dwerf. I've had a few, all alcohol related.

Shona, you can never have enough back ups. Two of my batteries broke last week and sent me into a right panic. Go on! Treat yourself Grin

MaggieMcGill · 18/04/2014 13:20

Does anyone want to try dark star's lime? I got another free bottle with my order and I already have two, it's nice but I'll probably not use three bottles.

Dwerf · 18/04/2014 13:33

All mine are mental health related. I got some hangsten liquid yesterday, I love the bottles with their metal tips.

Allergictoironing · 18/04/2014 14:24

Yep I have 2 rainbow Vision Spinners Grin.

Actually to be fair I have one Vision Spinner and one Ego C-twist, but they are virtually identical - just a bit different in the shiny colourings, but there's a bit of variety across the Vision ones anyway.

Shonajay · 18/04/2014 14:37

What size rainbow spinner should I get they seem to have different numbers, and do I buy a top bit for it and if so what one? Easily tempted, me. They're so pretty.

And if I need to buy a top bit, what brand? And will I ever stop asking questions? And do you all cry when I come on the boards?! Xxx

Blue sky crystal I found branch209 where they sell slightly damaged uggs, well since my cancer and spine op I need flat shoes, so my treat for giving up for a month was FIVE pairs, but they were so cheap! This can be next months treat, bought today xx

Shonajay · 18/04/2014 14:45

And I'm not being a boasty cow my dear MIL left me a small inheritance before she succumbed to Alzheimer's. so I'm using it to buy stuff that will help on a daily basis xx

Shonajay · 18/04/2014 15:31

Also do it need a battery for rainbow spinner and a clearomizer- if so could you lovely peeps recommend a brand?x

Allergictoironing · 18/04/2014 16:07

Shona my dear I for one definitely DON'T cry when you come on the boards!

The Vision Spinner is a standard Ego style battery, just a VERY pretty one Grin. As I said above, I also have an Ego C-twist which is near enough identical. So basically you just treat it like any other battery - bog standard 510 Ego style threaded clearos to go on it (GS-H2, CE4/5, Evod, Kanger Protank etc). So whatever clears you have now, you should be able to use them on the Spinner.

The numbers relate to the mAh, i.e. how much power they hold & therefore how long they last. Plus the bigger the number (and the longer lasting they are) the larger the battery. I use 1300mAh, which is about 4.5 inches long or a little shy of 7 inches with a standard CE4 or GS-H2 clearo on it - so quite a big beastie! I've attached a pic which shows the relative size differences in the Vision spinners, I think the sizes are (from small to large) 650mAh, 900mAh, 1100mAh and 1300mAh.

Hundreds of vipers vaping in our fifth thread!!
BlueSkyCrystal · 18/04/2014 16:21

Good for you, treating yourself after all you've been through Flowers

I like the look of a yellow or blue GSH2 clearo on the rainbow spinner if you want new accessories for the Precious Spinner.

Allergictoironing · 18/04/2014 16:33

Depends really on what way up the colours are on the spinner. One of mine is yellow at the battery end, but the other is blue and purple so the purple clearo looks good on that one Smile

BlueSkyCrystal · 18/04/2014 16:34

I need a purple clearo or six

Perihelion · 18/04/2014 17:10

Can someone explain cleaning and dry burning to me please....
Have Kanger T2 tanks. Changed the wick, but a few days after the liquid started to go darker in the tank and was getting a burnt taste. Tank and wick are now soaking in hot water, but what do I do next? Do I need to rinse with vodka? And what is dry burning? Will this solve the problem, or is the tank fucked?

I may know nothing about tank maintainence, but on my recent trip to London, I perfected the art of stealth vaping up my sleeve Grin
Did feel a bit wistful for the days of the smoking carriage on the train and would have loved a vaping section, although East Coast trains hasn't specifically banned it.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 18/04/2014 18:10

Perihelion, is in French but you can follow what he's doing. They must be a really popular clearo in France, judging by my search results!

I would -

  1. take it out of the water and dry it as much as possible on a tissue

  2. dry burn as in the video - short bursts with the button until it stops smoking and you see the coil glow all the way across. Keep going until it stops giving off a burnt smell. It shouldn't take that long as you have only been using it a few days. You probably won't be able to get rid of every last trace of burnt smell, so once you've dry burned it ...

  3. soak in cheapo vodka for a few hours. No need to rinse it, just let it evaporate off to dry.

has a handy hint to help stop it happening in the future - looks like it's a common problem.
PlentyOfPubeGardens · 18/04/2014 18:14

I think you should definitely get a rainbow spinner, shona. The 'rainbow spinner phase' is a well known step in the vaping journey Smile You've kind of bypassed that phase by getting an mvp but get one anyway because it'll be a great backup and it's very pretty Grin

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 18/04/2014 18:17

Dwerf, just keep counting the ones you don't smoke, not the ones you do Smile

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 18/04/2014 18:20

Link to GS-H2s on ebay These are genuine, I bought some a couple of weeks ago.

Perihelion · 18/04/2014 18:50

Thanks Plenty, I'll try that. I do like my Kanger tanks....much more than CE4s or GS-H2s

Raia · 18/04/2014 19:03

Do you find those single coil clearos as good as the fancy schmancy double coil ones? I'm noticing I get more flavour with the double coil one than I get with the normal evod ones I was using, unless I'm imagining it Confused
