To think dresses are the best things to wear

Because it's a whole outfit
No thinking does this top go with this bottom

No annoying things on the waist

Probably cheaper buying a dress then two items

I only wear dresses and skirts which is great for comfort but the weather is never my friend.
My skirt blows up A LOT.
Normally in bad places.

This is my thread highlighting the dangers of skirts (namechange)

I like dresses.

Unfortunately, I have big boobs & short legs so dresses don't usually like me.

Shesparkles · 04/04/2014 12:51

I love dresses, and even more so as I've got older (40s) and very much less slim.
I wear them with leggings in the winter (yeah I know, but I see leggings as very opaque tights), but I can't wait for the short skater dress trend to meet its death!

OnlyLovers · 04/04/2014 12:52

I love dresses! So easy. Pair of tights or leggings (yes! I wear dresses with leggings and I don't care!) and a cardigan and off you go.

OP, how about brogues for 'in-between' shoes? Or ankle boots or shoe-boots? I'm not keen on ballet flats with dresses either; depending on the style of the dress they can make me feel like a 5-year-old at a birthday party.

wonkylegs · 04/04/2014 12:53

I love dresses but struggle to find ones for my shape.
I'm 4'11", with a 32GG chest, 22" waist and a not small backside. I also have ankles & knees terribly out of shape thanks to inflammatory arthritis.
I have some fab ones but generally I find separates work better.

IslaValargeone · 04/04/2014 12:55

What about the wind?
The slightest waft of breeze and whoosh! you end up flashing your knickers to everyone.
I hardly ever wear dresses for that reason.

Latraviata · 04/04/2014 12:56

I only ever wear dresses-I don't own a pair of jeans or trousers. I wear them with tights, either opaque, coloured, seamed or patterned. Or if its really cold with leggings. In summer I wear them with very sheer or nude fishnet tights.

I pair mine with low heeled mary jane style shoes.I love my dresses!!

devoniandarling · 04/04/2014 12:58

I love dresses. Especially from Edinburgh woollen mill. Long dresses at reasonable prices.

BrokenToeOuch · 04/04/2014 13:11

Oh, though I agree about needing a bit of sleeve on a dress - can't be doing with sleeveless or capped at all, and I struggle to get something that's loose on the arms.
Asos is where I get most of my dresses from because of this - usually lots of choice on there.

126sticks · 04/04/2014 13:12

I like the wind! Not normally enough where I live to lift a dress that much.

OnlyLovers · 04/04/2014 13:24

Isla, you're OK if you've got leggings or decent tights on.

Actually I can't recall an occasion where I've worn a dress and done a Marilyn Monroe. Just lucky maybe?

GiveItALashJack · 04/04/2014 13:28

Wonky are you my twin??? My swollen legs from RA look ever worse in tights! I bought a new pair of pjs's the other day.l I didnt know there were legging bottoms. My god I dont know how anyone wears them!

BigBoobiedBertha · 04/04/2014 13:29

Nope I wear skirts a lot and don't think the wind has ever blown it so far I've flashed anybody. I can't imagine that a dress would be any more risky.

Weegiemum · 04/04/2014 13:30

Since Maxi dresses came back in (last summer?) I've worn little else!

Objection · 04/04/2014 13:36

Where are you people living?!
I have at least one "flashing" moment a fortnight. I've taken to wearing leggings or thick tights so it doesn't matter but summer is coming...

ithaka · 04/04/2014 13:39

I love dresses, I find them really comfy, no need to co ordinate & always look a bit smart. I will wear them with any shoes or boots, but love them especially in winter with thermal tights & boots - toasty.

NotYouNaanBread · 04/04/2014 13:54

I love dresses. Oddly, most of mine are from Jack Wills as they have sleeves (winter) and are short without being knicker-skimmers, so comfy for messing around with small children. Thick tights, lace-up shoes (hurray for so many trendy flats in the shops lately). In the summer, bare legs/leggings/tights and converse pumps.

They're not flippy, so they don't lift with the wind.

Cos also do lovely practical dresses.

TiggyKBE · 04/04/2014 13:58

Dresses are hard for those of interesting shapes.

Diamondlizard · 04/04/2014 15:06

ah yes good to see so many other dress fans

im going to look for mary jane style shoes or other flats as i nned somethinginbetween boots and flip flops

Fathertedfan · 04/04/2014 16:00

Absolutely love dresses. I've got lots of skirts but look a mess in them. Every few months I order a load of dresses online, boohoo.com usually, and top up my wardrobe.

OnlyLovers · 04/04/2014 16:01

Objection, more to the point do you live in a wind tunnel? Grin

NewtRipley · 04/04/2014 16:05

YANBU

I have recently come round to this idea. Fortunately there seems to be a greater variety of dresses around at the moment. It used ti be hard to find dresses that weren't above the knee a few years back

goodasitgets · 04/04/2014 17:03

I love dresses Grin
At the moment I have a butterfly print v neck dress on, it's got pockets too
Maidenform leggings, a shrug, waist belt and flat over the knee boots

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/04/2014 17:10

It's not particularly windy here, but skirts and dresses (summerweight ones anyway) flip really easily on me when I'm walking. Even if they don't show my knickers it displays more leg than I would want on show.

OnlyLovers · 04/04/2014 17:11

I quite like showing a bit of leg. Grin
