To think dresses are the best things to wear

Because it's a whole outfit
No thinking does this top go with this bottom

No annoying things on the waist

Probably cheaper buying a dress then two items

I wear wedges or flats. I can't do heels unless I am going out somewhere special.

I love wearing dresses as they are comfy, cool, pretty and easy to wear. Ohh, did I mention they are comfy Grin

I just bought this dress from Jigsaw (Cecile Print Tea Dress, Multi).

Umm, it's nicer in real life Confused

Just found this as I was looking for dress advice!
Last summer on holiday abroad I observed that the most stylish ladies of all ages and sizes were wearing simple straight knee length shift dresses with sandals and beautiful necklaces. Well in my opinion anyway. For day and night wear.
I have lost a bit of weight and want to be elegant this summer but not fussily dresses. I am only 5'2 a bit top heavy, narrow hips but absolutely no waist, it is hugely out of proportion. I also find that anything with a waist is no good as I am short from neck to waist.
Any good ideas about shops that that sell lovely summer dresses that I might not have tried ( ie not m and s, debenhams, tkmaxx, ) any good online stores?

YANBU. I wear dresses all the time, so easy.

YANBU - 90% of my clothes are dresses - smart, casual, whatever, dresses are almost always the answer.

No idea how I'm going to cope with breastfeeding though (other than buy a shed load of BF dresses!)

I really struggle with day dresses. Can do evening no problem, plonk some heels on and I'm good to go.

What shoes do you wear with a day dress?

It took me a long time to figure out that dresses are for me too. I am a shortie. Only 5' 2. An apple as well. (I know, I love my food. Hehe.) I finally found some jersey wrap dresses from coast and Phase 8 which does the job. Hide the bumps and lumps, and still look okay. :D
I can't fit standard sizes, 12 or 14 of a normal height person, and petite height has a smaller width sometimes. It is so annoying. I also found some New Look jeans as a perfect fit cos it stretches. Yes ! That's my lot. :)

There's a lot of new semi-designer-ish shirt dresses as a one piece that is popular now. But it is so pricey.

I only wear dresses (well, I lie, I have 3 skirts too). Have not had a pair of jeans on for over a year now.

I find dresses are cut for apples not pears. Pears have small waists too which need showing off. Having been both a pear (when slimmer) and an hour glass now I am carrying too much weight I find everything baggy in the middle and always have. I still have a waist and dresses almost never flatter it so I end up looking like a blob which is not good.

I was dress browsing yesterday.
Problem is that I'm an hourglass, but most dresses are cut for pears. So to be big enough up top it's baggy in the waist. Unless I have a belt (can't be bothered, can't remember, extra cost). anything that shows off my waist (only nice feature I have!) is too small up top.

Argh, jeans are so much simpler.

Today I am wearing a just below the knee stretchy dress with sleeves. Oh joy!

I especially like jersey wrap dresses as, if you hang them on a hanger to dry, there is no ironing involved.

ginor, grey tights look lovely with a green dress. Or if you want to be more colourful, purple (a grapey, blue purple rather than burgundy) or hot pink!

I have found my home!
I adore dresses. They are totally idiot proof. Love them with opaques no need to shave legs and v slimming
Would love a. Dress intervention thread...may start on S and B.
I'm small so more fitted styles suit me better.
Skinny jeans and tops make me feel short and squat and I never feel myself when I wear them to go out. I wear them to work, to go out and on weekends.
A well fitted dress makes me feel attractive and slim...and like me.

Another almost exclusively dress wearer here. As in 99% of the time I am in a dress. I found what suits me and it is really easy to buy and look put together.
Winter: knee high or calf lenght boots. Thermal vest and cardies.
This type of weather: maryjanes, wedges, flats.
Summer:sandals, flip flops.

I tend to go for block colours and accesorise with whatever I fancy that day.

Looks put together and I find them very practical. :)

YABU, I'm like acrid in that I have a long body and short legs. Dresses look shit on me.

I'm afraid I just live with the pain of heels. I've got dreadful feet but can't give them up and much prefer how dresses look (on me - no judgement on others) with heels.

I wear dresses with anything: Converse, ankle boots (flat or heeled), knee boots (ditto), heeled shoes, flat sandals (footless tights or leggings are your best friend if you want to wear 'bare feet' shoes but don't want to go bare-legged), ballet flats ... (although that last is not my favourite look and depends very much on the dress).

Bunbaker · 06/04/2014 12:46

Heels are so uncomfortable for me, and for a significant number of mumsnetters judging by the number of posts I read on here. I wish there were more options for low heeled or flat shoes which are comfortable and stylish and that look good with skirts and dresses.

I can't wear shift dresses because I am too pear shaped.

I wear heels or wedge sandals with dresses. But I'm a big fan of heels and wear them with jeans / trousers for work.

Whistles often do dresses with pockets but I always use a handbag.

Zara do a lot of shift dresses, Jaegar has been a source of dropped waist dresses and I've got loads from ASOS - however, I do have good legs and like to wear mid thigh with tights in the winter / bare legged in summer.
