To ask what else was on the memo to all womankind that I clearly missed?

Last I heard fanjos could only be washed in pure water and even the thought of soap would give you thrush. Now it seems it's fine to scrub them with wire wool and dettol.
Also, it used to be ok to just trim the hair that might poke out around your knickers, but now all body hair is evil and must be removed via hot wax.
And then I read on MN that washing up in a bowl and then putting it on the draining board like they used to in the fairy adverts is all wrong and we should be washing up under running water.
And while we are about it, what the fuck is quinoa and more to the point how did everyone else know how to say it?

So what else was on this memo that I missed?

Quinoa is delicious though and does NOT taste of wet cardboard.

No. It tastes of soggy play-dough crumbs.

FrancesNiadova · 02/04/2014 09:32

Ah, myth explained. Thanks fideline!

Sooo, what's the deal with Normannnnnn washing up bowls then? I call mine Ethel & SHE only cost £1.99 from Asda! Wink

BeverleyMoss · 02/04/2014 09:37

I can't remember the last time I clicked on a thread and it didn't include some reference to fanjo maintenance.

desist.

Sallyingforth · 02/04/2014 09:53

Whatever happened to that woman who found a caterpillar in her mooncup and had to rinse all her eggs ?

OnlyLovers · 02/04/2014 09:55

I discovered in RL that a friend who hated quinoa was using the flaked stuff, which is obviously disgusting.

What you want is the grain variety. Yum.

ChickenFromHell · 02/04/2014 10:00

You may not change a babies nappy anywhere except your own home or a small dark room, where the offending child can not be seen within a mile radius. Doesn't matter how quick and clean you are about it, it must never happen.

FrancesNiadova · 02/04/2014 10:00

Ah Beverley, I think Fanjo maintenance is something to do with unblocking gutters & down pipes.

You have to be careful not to pollute the environment with chemicals like bleach, but you do have to keep them clear of dead leaves, twigs & other debris, otherwise you'll get swallows & other garden birds nesting there.

Hot wax won't melt the twigs etc away, it just clogs them up so nothing will wash through.

If your drains & gutters are well & truly blocked, apparently there's a bloke oop north who will unblock them with a yoni massage: he's supposed to be better than DinoRod!

I think I've got it all sorted out now! HTH Smile

I don't wash fruit before I give it to my PFB. Am I the only one who has "rinse mince" trundling through my head now, as the two words go nicely together? yup, thought so. I'll get my coat….

Macocious · 02/04/2014 10:08

I have a loo brush but it's fine as I make sure to give it a good rinse under hot water while I'm rinsing the dishes. In the interests of the environment I also save this water for boiling my mince.

kitnkaboodle · 02/04/2014 10:11

You need separate laundry baskets for clean and dirty washing in case of cross-contamination

FrancesNiadova · 02/04/2014 10:20

A good idea Macocious, but I wouldn't then use that water to flush out your fanjo pipes, the fat from the mince would clog up your gutter at the bottom. Then, you'd probably not just attract nesting garden birds, (especially at this time of year), but you could also attract pests like mice, or worse! Shock
When you get mice, you have to sell up & move.
Mumsnet really is such a useful encylopaedia of parenting/house hold knowledge. I didn't know any of this stuff before I came on here!

MsUumellmahaye · 02/04/2014 10:26

Christ, i am so filthy tis a wonder me and mine are still alive.

TillyTellTale · 02/04/2014 10:28

No, not flushing tampons is not an April Fool.

Am I the only one who reads the instructions?
Things you don't flush down the toilet
more stuff that doesn't break-down in the sewers

EverythingsDozy · 02/04/2014 10:31

I always thought you could flush tampons (not like I do!) in this country because they are biodegradable and our pipe system is on of the best in the world.
We used to own property in Spain and when we let a friend go over we had an unexpected plumber bill because she flushed a tampon down and it got stuck because their pipes are much thinner than the ones in the UK.

Before I came on MN, I didn't realise we weren't to slather our children in sun cream.

TillyTellTale · 02/04/2014 10:40

Not biodegradable, at least in the short term. They take years. That's why they end up on beaches. sweages, condoms and tampons on beaches

Try an experiment for me. Get a tampon, unwrap it, put it in a beaker of water, and watch. They swell hugely. And I mean hugely. One on its own, may not block pipes, but the cumulative effect, as they catch on out-croppings, and stick to fat, is there.

FastWindow · 02/04/2014 10:46

You must go to work, and be a SAHM, because both are good/bad for your kids/the economy.

toastedteacake · 02/04/2014 10:48

Quinoa is delicious served with salads and spicy flavoured meats or veg. It goes well with Mediterranean/ North African recipes.

Couscous is the dusty sweepings from the pasta factory floor.

fideline · 02/04/2014 10:59

Do I have to? I'm trying to prove to DD I'm not embarassing. I've been doing really well since the weekend.

TillyTellTale · 02/04/2014 11:01

Hmm, will you and she be able to refrain from flushing them without a physical demonstration? If not, then yes, you have to.

You could paint a funny face on it to make it more embarrassing more interesting?

fideline · 02/04/2014 11:08

I've been wracking my brains since yesterday about how to raise the subject without being vomited on. She isn't going to like it. Smiley-faced tampons would make it worse.

thebody · 02/04/2014 11:09

tampons bah!! mumsnet uses mooncups or better still good old fashioned rags like in the olden days.

babies need to be worn until they go to high school otherwise they will suffer separation anxiety.

you have read that ff, having a cot in a separate room is actually child abuse. if not re read tis true.

KittensoftPuppydog · 02/04/2014 11:14

Children should be breast fed until they are at least 30.
If you go to Center Parks (or was it Alton towers?) you must partake in anal sex.

fideline · 02/04/2014 11:18

Eh? Shock With anyone in particular?

(How do I miss this stuff??)

TillyTellTale · 02/04/2014 11:20

Can you pretend you don't know she's been flushing them?

In a very obtrusive way, start making plans to visit the beach in summer, and say, "of course, we need a clean beach without tampons on it" and then she'll ask, "mum why would it?! Ew". And you can say, "well, education wasn't always very good, and the manufacturers don't make it clear you shouldn't flush them". Then she'll know, without feeling humiliated for not knowing?

fideline · 02/04/2014 11:23

I was the one who told her to flush them Tilly Blush and pads torn in two

I need to perform a policy U turn and secure co-operation at the same time.
