To not find having cream squirted in my face funny?

Visiting my Grandmother today for tea and cakes. A few other members of the family were there too.

My cousin who is 8 asked his dad if he would squirt cream in his mouth - which he did. My uncle then turned to me and said do you want some too Watermelon?

I said no and he still proceeded to shove it in my face so I turned my head away and then he decided to actually squirt it on my face and even some went in my hair. So it wasn't even a small little blob.

My uncle found it hilarious until he saw my face and he did apologise but I still felt I should have just laughed along.

My uncle is early 40s and I'm 24 - I wouldn't do that to another adult. Aibu and need to her a sense of humour?

No. He's a part.
I think Peter Kay would describe him as Uncle Knobhead and reckons every family has one.
[big grin]

SoleSource · 30/03/2014 17:23

Maybe he was being passive aggressive as he finds you and he have very different sense of humours and felt you dampen the general mood and this was his way of humiliating you?

He sounds like a bit of a knob, but really YABU to be upset enough about it to post on here!

ShatnersBassoon · 30/03/2014 17:25

It was daft and badly timed, but he realised he'd misjudged it and apologised. Forget about it.

Yonineedaminute · 30/03/2014 17:27

Also, he apologised when he realised you didn't see the funny side. I am struggling to see the issue here tbh.

matildasquared · 30/03/2014 17:34

I have a hunch he gave one of those half-assed "aw don't be a spoilsport" apologies.

I also have a hunch he wouldn't try that with a 24-year-old male family member.

Finally, I have a hunch that he usually acts like a cunt and this is just the latest example.

You have my permission to ice him out and totally ignore him for the rest of your life.

You're welcome.

He sounds like the kind of person who irritates people in the guise of comedy and then claims no one has a sense of humour.

JeanSeberg · 30/03/2014 17:54

Sadly the son will turn into a prize cunt just like his dad.

Nomama · 30/03/2014 17:56

Like Matilda, I have a hunch.

I have a hunch his prat like behaviour was seen as cute, many moons ago. I have a hunch that his older sibling/s may never have seen it that way.

I have a hunch that the people who think OP is being ungracious may well also be canned cream wielding 'comedians'!

BIL is like this, oh so very, very funny. It got to be very wearing very quickly. My how we larfed - or were called humourless cunts.

cuttingpicassostoenails · 30/03/2014 17:58

I have a hunch that he is a bit of a cunt.

RedFocus · 30/03/2014 18:03

That's the sort of thing my brothers and I do to each other at family get togethers.
Op he said sorry when he saw you didn't see the funny side so perhaps just let it go and maybe never sit next to him again Wink
Btw my husband chucked a cup of cold water on me while I was in the shower the other day (for a laugh) I fell out the shower and now have a big bruise on my thigh and I didn't see the funny side to that either but he was so apologetic I laughed and got over it.

MrsCaptainReynolds · 30/03/2014 18:12

Unless invited in the spirit of mutual fun and games, this is actually quite aggressive toward an adult who has said no.

Pagwatch · 30/03/2014 18:17

God, what a dick.

Caitlin17 · 30/03/2014 18:17

YANBU. He sounds like an idiot. I agree with those who said the apology will be one of those passive- aggressive ones of the "I'm sorry you don't have a sense of humour" variety.

As for not seeing the funny side - you're not seeing it because there isn't one.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this but there's also something really creepy about him even asking you if you wants cream squirted down her throat.

matildasquared · 30/03/2014 18:18

There is absolutely no way he misunderstood and thought it was "in the spirit of mutual fun and games." She turned away and said, "No."

He's an aggressive cunt.

If he did that to a stranger in a restaurant, that would technically be assault and he could be charged. You're fair game because you're a female relative? No.

matildasquared · 30/03/2014 18:20

That came out wrong--I mean his having done it to you is technically assault as well. You could even press charges if you wanted.

Caitlin17 · 30/03/2014 18:20

Aargh my last sentence is gibberish. Should have read " there's also something really creepy about his even asking you if you want cream squirted down your throat."

Caitlin17 · 30/03/2014 18:22

Matilda technically it is assault. I know this is "family" but it is. In the workplace behaving like that to a colleague would merit disciplinary action.

FunkyBoldRibena · 30/03/2014 18:28

Don't laugh along. He is definitely a knobhead.

5Foot5 · 30/03/2014 18:34

YANBU and it does sound like your uncle was being a bit of a dick, but it doesn't sound to me like he meant anything by it, it just wasn't well thought through. If he is used to playing with 8 year olds then he probably is attuned to the 8 year olds sense of humour hence he thought this would be fun.

Then he realised he had overstep the mark and said sorry. I would let it go and move on.

Caitlin17 · 30/03/2014 18:43

5foot that excuse "he is used to playing with 8 year olds" is beyond feeble.

Driveway · 30/03/2014 18:51

He sounds like an annoying cunt. I used to play with my next door neighbour's little girl when I was eight. Her dad was an annoying cunt of this type. I didn't find it funny at age eight.
